I had a leveling kit installed 2.5 on front,1 inch on rear. After about 2k miles there is a loud knocking noise in the front end when the truck is in reverse. I took it to Toyota and they could not find anything and said the leveling kit was installed correctly. Front tires are 275/65/20, some trimming was done on the plastic wheel liners. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Yes, I was told by the installers that they didn't have to be changed.

Did you install a new skid plate? Is it a knocking or more of a metallic tapping noise?

I have a similar noise after a similar set up. Every once in a while I get a knock or clunk from the front somewhere when turning sharp at low speeds in reverse or drive. I have a TRD skidplate, and the tires rub on the corner of it at full lock, but the knock/clunk doesnt sound like tires rubbing. It doesn't knock/clunk while driving normal or over any bumps or anything, just at low speeds when turning pretty sharp, but doesnt have to be full lock...

I installed my leveling kit on my Tundra. Kept having a knocking/rubbing sound when I turned a certain direction. It turned out to be a corner of the skid plate catching the left front tire when turning it. Easy fix was to bend the corner of the skid plate, turning it away from tire, with a pair of needle nose or similar pliers. Took care of the rubbing sound.

A little of this and a little of that.
OP, if it were me I would take it back to the installer's shop and have them fix/take a look at it. Is that not an option??

In my case it was the rear 24mm LCA bolts.. they weren't loose, but I tightened them until they wouldn't anymore and no more popping sound...

i have this exact same popping sound. Only i don't have a skid plate so it can't be that. and i just replaced both LCA's and had it completely aligned and still have the noise. I'm at a loss with this clunk noise. Starting to think it is the coil on the strut or my sway bar or UCA's.

    None yet!
My Tacoma has the same knock. Has camburg uniballs upper arms with about 30k on them, and had the lower control arms redone about a month ago...

Can't figure it out for the life of me. Only things not replaced are the tie rods - which are tight and no loose movement, sway bar links, which are a little loose and warn they seem and the upper uniballs which I have yet to check out.

Solved my popping sound. It turns out it was the upper control arm bolts were hand loose. Recommend going through just about everything that has to do with suspension or turning and tighten the bolts. then replace parts.

Baffles me that shops doing work on suspension would ignore torque specs when installing parts... irritating.

Yeah they completely over looked the upper control arms while doing my alignment. Even after charging me an extra $20 bucks because they knew all the parts were freshly installed. (besides the UCA's)

Needless to say i took it back in, pointed out that they completely missed a bolt on the upper control arm that was hand loose and making the noise.
