6112 Setting and Tire/Wheel Combo Thread.

Great questions and thanks for the compliment. These tires are BFG KO2s which I’ve had several sets of along with the original KOs. They are a phenomenal tire that wears really well if you can get them balanced properly. However, my tire guy who I trust told me that the KO2s in various sizes have been very difficult for him to balance over the past year or so.

With that said, I will likely go with another type of tire the next go around (probably Toyo or Nitto). With a 34” tire you will experience minimal power loss and around a 2mpg loss (ymmv), but nothing you don’t get used to real quick. I ran a 35x12.50 tire for a while and the difference was much more dramatic so I think the 34” diameter is the sweet spot on a stock Tundra/Sequoia.

Wider width won’t affect power or shifting as much as it will give more mpg loss, but will tend to handle better. This is the reason I’m going with the 305 next go around because in my experience with the 285 width and 34” height, it tends to be a little less stable than desired because IMO the sidewall height is a little too much for the narrower width at highway speeds. But the “pizza cutter” look does look good to me.

Also I prefer the E rated because I’m hard on tires and it gives you a thicker sidewall with more plies to protect against punctures (I’m around construction sites and such a lot).

As far as the RW wheels, they actually have a bit more offset than factory which helps prevent rubbing with taller/wider tires so typically no spacer needed. This plus the strength and light weight of the wheel is why so many people like to run them.

This is all extremely helpful and the answers I was looking for! Sometimes people are too general or short in answers assuming you won’t want to dive too deep into detail. Not me, all the detail and nerdy information I will gladly absorb and use! I was actually thinking nitto terra grappler or the toyo open country AT 3.
Good to hear there isn’t any rubbing, I have an aftermarket bumper but even my 275/60/20(33x11) rub my sway bar a bit on full lock so hopefully the RW wheels will be better. I will seriously ponder 305’s for the more confident handling as I drive mountain roads a lot. Thanks again for all the help!

 

I appreciate all of this information. I currently have a set of cooper xlt in 305/70 17 in my garage next to my rebounds (+25) Not much info on that size on this site. I'm gonna give it a go with about 2.5 lift up front and keep stick uca. Hopefully just moving plastic and pulling flaps. Still a couple weeks out on the install. Always nerve racking when you can't find much info in advance.

 

No worries, anytime. Worst case scenario is you may have some rubbing on the skid plate. A simple fix is to remove the outer “wings” on it which I’ve done on two different Tundras of mine. For the Sequoia I opted to splurge on the TRD skid which gives more clearance, and a bonus is it makes oil changes much quicker with its filter access panel.

 

Go for it. You’ll have plenty of clearance for that wheel/tire with a 2.5” lift.

 

ordered 6112 and 5100 combo and said it was in stock at shock surplus. Do they come set at a certain height and or can i adjust them?

 

oh said they were pre assembled as well

 

so ow i assume i need something for the rear like shackles , anyone have a link

 

also do the 5100 come with root guards

 

Is it normal to get 3 1/8” in the front set on 3rd/1.9 setting? 1.9 both sides 1CB shim DS. Also fit 1 7/8 with +2 shackle. Not complaining, just curious if others have had similar outcomes. Thanks. (275/70/18 cooper at3 xlt)

Can someone explain to me why you would need shackles? I was looking at the 6112 in front and 5110 in the rear with SPC Upper control arms. So would shackles be necessary? I'm a total noob when it comes to suspension.

There’s lotsa post about shackles, but basically it can improve ride and they raise the rear to desired height, to keep desired rake or keep level etc.

 

I currently have 6112's on the top setting with CB shim both sides, no double on the driver side for lean. 5100's rear with CB 3+ shackle. I am going on 145,000 miles on this setup. No issues. I do light off-roading on a regular basis, and vacation to the outer banks each year and spent the week driving on the beaches. Those are the conditions this setup has had to endure. Tires are 35x12.50/17's, I have had to push the fender liner forward about 3/4 of an inch, to resolve rubbing at full lock in reverse. That being said I would like to replace them with a fresh new set with only a few exceptions, 6112's still up front, but with JBA UCA's, switch over to 5160's in the rear. I need new leaf springs, my truck has a total of 175,000 miles and with the addition of a new cap, the additional 200+ lbs has really taken its toll on the stock leaf springs. I plan on going with the Dobinson's. They have garnered good reviews, wont break the bank and best of all don't squeak. Adding the Dobinson's will negate the need for the CB shackles. So this is how she sets now, hopefully later on this year the parts will arrive. I am on a few wait lists hopefully its sooner than later, but we shall see.

 

Im not sure if something changed, but I just swapped my OEM OR skid out for the Pro skid as well. I was surprised to see the skid on my 21 no longer had the side coverage, "wings".

 

My setup will be as follows:

6112 on top setting with 2 CB shims driver / 1 CB shim passenger
5160s out back with +2 CB shackles
1.25" Bora spacers
CB bumper shims
285/75r18 Falken Wildpeaks on OEM TRD Pro wheels.

Curious what made you change it up?
I figured I would need to remove mud flaps, maybe some plastic heat molding.

 

I had an opportunity to buy an icon kit from a friend.. which I ran for a while.. and now I'm onto OME. Some may say I have a problem..

 

I just did 1.9 with 1 shim ps and +2 shackle and it’s almost perfectly level. I do have a topper tho. And the front will settle a little, maybe. Gained almost 3” in front and 1 7/8” in back

 

Interesting. I would like to think they're helping out those that they know will run a bigger tire, but probably just another quick cost savings measure.

 

Probably right. I was just surprised when I saw it was the same width as the pro skid. Especially since my primary reason was the width issue. Oh well, the pro one is about 3x the weight, should hold up for me.

 

Yeah the Pro one is a really nice unit and well worth the money IMO. The fit/finish/detail is superb to just be a plate of metal on the underside.

 

Any running or cutting? Looks awesome!

just bought 6112, will run at the 1.3" lift. thinking 275/60/20 discoverer at3 4s. 1794 MGM. wish me luck! will post pics when done

didnt go for UCA or diff drop, don't think the mild 1.3" will stress out my components enough to warrant it. am i wrong?

Rear will remain with what’s on there now which is stock spec KYB shocks with airlift airbags.

I see a lot of people going with tire size 275/70/18 or 285/70/18. What’s the benefit of 285 over the 275? What tires have you been the most happy with?

im open to recommendations but thinking Toyo, BFG or maybe Coopers

oh and lastly the 6112 were in stock at shock surplus and boss off road last I checked

 

Not many choices in 285/70/18, just Nitto for AT’s.
My 6112’s are set at 1.9 with one DS shim and I went with 275/70/18 cooper at3 xlt’s. Look good in my opinion, they’re quiet but only have 1k mikes on em.
