How do I keep my new truck shiny and beautiful?

Ever since getting my TRD Sport Premium in black last weekend I’ve been sitting in my garage staring at how beautiful that truck looks. Toyota wanted to sell me all this extra coat protection but I read that most of that is not worth it.

Do you guys recommend getting any additional third party paint protection work done? Or just regular cleaning? If regular cleaning, any products you guys can recommend?

 

As a black truck owner, here's my advice: polish and detail it, put it the garage under negative pressure so no dust can get on it and never take it out again.



Now more realistically if I had purchased my truck brand new I would have had it ceramic coated. A good duster will help. Black trucks are beautiful but they always look like a powdered donut the minute you drive it anywhere.

I think its a good thing you didn't fall for the "Paint Sealant" offered by the dealer. It's just a cheap wax/sealant they hire a 16 year old kid to apply and charge you hundreds of dollars for. I agree with above.....take it to a reputable detail shop and get it ceramic coated. Not cheap, but they'll do any paint correction before applying the ceramic, and it should last a few years and look great! ....

 

Black tundra owner here. Give it a good wash, then "wax" with your favorite, I use Meguiars ultimate, which is not really a wax, more of a sealant. Then to give longer protection and added shine, I top coat with beadmaker. You can top coat with that or other similar products- griots makes some good stuff too. Doing that process will keep your black truck very black, give great protection, shine and excellent water beading for 3-4 months or longer.

Welcome aboard. I hope you told your current employer that you're now a part time employee, because your new part time job will be keeping that black clean. Black vehicles are a lifestyle. ha. Echo what was said, check out the detailing thread. Learning the proper way to wash and the stuff to use will help you the most by what's going to clean without stripping, wash without (more like minimize) surface scratches/swirling, and what can fit in your time frame dedicated to detailing. Don't get the dealer coating.

I'm a (biased) big fan of ceramic coatings but they are not necessary. CQuartz UK 3.0 is good but there are tons of options on the market including nonceramic options.

 

My Tundra is Cavalry Blue, but I also have a very shiny black MX5 Miata, called Brilliant Black, that still looks like new after nine years. I use Meguiar's Gold Class car wash soap on all of my vehicles and they stay shiny and never need wax or anything else. I do wipe the black car dry with a microfiber towel to stop water spots.

 

I had a black Tundra before I got my white one and the product I found that worked the best was Turtle Wax Ceramic Acrylic Black Spray Wax. Other than a true ceramic coating that is what I would recommend along with regular washes.

Black truck owner as well. My best advice is to skip the bucket wash for water spot reasons. I’m a rinseless wash guy. Wash one panel at a time. Optimum No Rinse (ONR) is most common rinseless wash. Good stuff. Haven’t done a bucket wash in years. PITA imo to do. Must have protection at all times. Whether wax,sealant or a ceramic coating. Tons of great choices. YouTube is your friend for learning rinseless washes. My.02 cents. Congrats on your truck purchase

 

I am also an ONR believer! Throw out the sponge and buy a goodly supply of microfiber wash mitts and towels. Use the 2-bucket wash method and your finish will last a long time with no swirls.

I’ll add that I applied Klasse sealant glaze when the truck was very new, and I truly believe it has been an effective protective agent. I am way over due for a re-application.

it’s not expensive, it’s fairly easy to apply, and I’ve been happy, along with many thousands of other users.

For easy and quick maintenance inside and out, I use a lot of Chemical Guys products.

 

Apply a good wax like the Collinite 845. Its durability is like a paint sealant.

Mine only looks good up close after the detailer takes it for a bit then it only looks good from about 20ft back. The Toyota paint is so soft on the black it swirls no matter what I do so I just live with it. Usually I just spray it off anymore maybe wash it 3 times a year then take it to a detailer before summer and then again before winter.

 

Smoked mesquite owner. Just gave first wash last week and just let her sit in driveway looking nice for a week. Drove to town yesterday and she got a fine layer of dust on her now.
I'm not too OCD but I kept noticing spots my sponge missed on all the curves and badges on this truck. I'm thinking the sponge is too stiff to bend into these places? Had to keep going over it as it dried and I kept finding dusty spots I missed.
I was thinking of switching to a microfiber towel? Would that be better? What are you guys doing?
The black leather interior seems like its going to be hell to keep up with also compared to my old gray cloth seats and plastic dash.
