Newer amenites you'd like in your 1st Gen?

I added the GTA car kit that gave me BT and hands-free phone. I already have the radio controls on the steering wheel (which works perfect with the GTA car kit). I added wireless charging though I’m looking for a better way to mount it. I also added a reverse camera in the tailgate handle and a camera mirror so I’m done with the tech stuff.

I would love power side steps to aid entry but then disappear and though I’ve seen them added to the 1st Gen it’s out of my price range.

So yeah, we drive older non-fancy trucks but a lot of the tech stuff we can add. And the cool part is it can all be hidden (if you’re an OEM junkie like me you’d really appreciate that).

You know, climbing in and out of the cab. My wife is short-ish and is bugging me to install nerf bars. I’ll probably do it at some point but prefer the cleaner look I have now...

 

There's plenty that could be posted for a simple steering wheel swap, where it gets a little more entailed is if one does not have steering wheel controls presently. When you get serious and come to a problem, post it up, you know there's plenty here capable of helping.

What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

 

Steering wheel controls are a must have for me. Maybe it’s because of how much I listen to music. Maybe it’s because of how many different cars I was in and out of when I was doing car audio.

Let the hate flow, but this is the absolute best designed steering wheel of all time. The audio buttons are exactly where your hand rests, and the others navigate through the vehicle info so easily.

I could drive by a bank, too, but I'm looking for a permanent solution. Whenever I drive over a wet bridge I'm in the habit of checking the air temp to predict whether I'm going to roll over the bridge or fly off it.

I was just gonna suggest this.

 

I can easily just press a button and leave the temp on the display as one of 4 parameters shown at all times on the Scan Gauge so no need for a bank with that one.

Although I have to think that as the engine heats up that the intake temp also rises?

 

Unsure if its mentioned here already, but Blue Tooth Capability for the Stereo. Easy fix now with a BT Box that plugs in to the open CD Plug on the back of the OEM Stereo.

Bu I think you may want a mirror with a temp/compass display, similar to what was installed as an option on mine. Cheaper alternatives are at a pick n pull...

My CC doesn't do the 1 mph up and down either.

 

Return it to Toyota and demand a full refund. It does require some time for the speed to change, or that function may have failed.

 

You're welcome to your opinion, but in my mind steering wheel controls should allow the driver to use the control with minimal movement of their hand. I can't imagine ever holding a steering wheel where those lower buttons are accessible to my fingers. What are those buttons doing down there?

Or get some lawyers together and sue them. Anyone recollect some dude on here, I think it was a 3rd gen guy, making a huge fuss that he was going to sue Toyota for not installing a trans cooler in the latest Tundras? It was an entertaining thread.

 

I don't think this has been said yet, but automatic roll down on all five windows. I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to make happen.

 

Yep! The passenger side on the sequoia is auto roll down and I had no idea how much I'd like it.

 

And auto up if we're going that route.

Next you'll tell me your cruise doesn't slow down 5mph after setting, downshift twice, speed to 5mph over your target speed, and eventually shift...

 

Actually, it does pretty good. There's only one hill it struggles with, and it just goes over when it crests the hill. But remember, it's super flat where I live. Pic somewhat related:

When I upgraded my stereo, the SW control adapter didn’t work, so I ditched it. Haven’t ever missed those controls.

I think it's more a 5 speed trans thing. Seems like pre 2005 guys don't mind their cruise. The issue presents itself on completely flat ground. If you throw hills in the mix with my tires and gearing... Forget about it.
