For %$#%'s sake, I cant get the LCA CAM bolts loose to drop the LCA?

I have an old sears phonemic air impact wrench Guess I'll try, also can I spray that break free lubricant there or is that a no no!

 

You shouldn't need to break the LCA Cam bolts... Try putting a pry bar in the LCA and pulling down to make clearance. You can use PB/Liquid Wrench etc no problem on it if you are pulling it out.

 

thanks, so those cam bolts don't need loosened on the LCA, just spray them and use pry bar! Its ok that I loosened and tightened them on the 1st one right?

 

Yes. Just make sure that you tell the shop when you go in for alignment.

You shouldn't even need to PB the LCA bolts honestly. It's just extra alignment work if they are loosened.

If you are still having issues with getting the strut to fit into the strut tower remove the top bolt from the top ball joint so the Upper and lower control arms are not connected. This will cause the lower to drop significantly though so be prepared to catch and prop it up so you don't put strain on your CV's or tie rods.

We have a BINGO, crossed the finish line about a hour ago! So much prying with the bar, didnt even have to loosen the LCA cam bolt, I tried but wouldn't budge! I put a long pry bar and sat on it while I finagle all the bolts and 6112 in! Was better then yesterday, just that I used muscles I hadn't in years and even my hair hurts, lol!

Had to make a temporary cover to work in the rain!

My shoulder feels like it was beating with a bat! Any way, I'll take it in tomorrow and get the alinement and have the check the drivers side UCA CAM bolts I loosened and the service manager I knew from a past dealer that used to work on my 2010, he said once I finished bring it in for a aliment and he'll have them check the torques!

Ill do the 5160's and CB #2 shackle later this week and I'll just get it realigned once I get the new tires! I'm hoping the #2 shackles don't give me a big rake being I want no more then 3/4" rake rear, minimum but traction control still stays happy!

Probably should have mentioned how much easier it would have been with 2 peeps. haha But yeah. Taking out the LCA is unnecessary. Glad to see you got it in.

 

I meant loosen the LCA not take off but still worked without loosening the bolts, sat on the pry bar, lol As of 2 people, I'm kinda stubborn and finicky about that, lol!

 

Agreed. Plus it's always cool to look back at your work when it's finished and say "damn I is good!".

 

Glad you got everything done on the front end ! Kinda strange those LCA bolts were that tight. You can sometimes get turned around when under the truck. You were doing lefty lucy righty tighty, correct ? Just checking........Also you have to look at what bolt or nut you are on because one comes loose and the other moves the cam. Also when you get a chance after alignment and before the rear work, let me know what you got for lift up front. This needs to be done after alignment because of the angle of the tire after lift. Thanks Geno and post some pics when it stops raining......

DAY 2, Bilstein 5160 install


I just finished the 6112's and 5160, did it in 2 days but took my time, came out great love the drive! I'll take in for the alinement next! I drove yesterday an it drove straight with no pulling right or left!

The front appears about 1" higher then rear but I heard the front will settle and drop a bit!

I still haven't done the #2 shackles but I have them just thinking wether I want to add them, I won't be towing or heavy hauling but still on the fence! But if it would help over all I would add them but don't know if CB #1, 0.65" lift may be closer to a minimal rake instead of the #2's which say 1.25" lift rear!

now that I look at the 5160 install, I think I put the res on the wrong side, does it make a difference and if so do I have to take them all off again, As it is now the res seems right at touching the frame hump where the shock top fit in, are these right and left specific shocks!

 

Good job my man!!!! But it won't settle a whole inch. And isn't the rear shocks made for a certain height? Either with or without shackles, but not both?

I just realized the instructions on the 5160's say to mount the reservoir on drivers side and the rev on the pax side facing rear, damn it! I wonder if I have to take the shocks off or could I just loosen the top nut and twist the main shock and rev the other way, I think the hose and fittings have play and will twist, just want to do it right!

 

Great job Geno..........The front will settle down once you get it aligned. I would wait and see where it sits before tackling the rear shackles. The rear shocks have a swivel banjo fitting on them. They are designed to allow you to remote mount the reservoir just about any where. Just don't kink the hose. Hope this helps........

 

What Lenny said! As long as the hose doesn't kink and nothing is close enough to make contact, you can mount them however you want. Looking good!
