Understand, but it's fabricated in a controlled manner, ensuring no stress related damage.

 

Yeah, trying to decide myself. Or shim. Where does a sub sound best under the back seat or behind? Any opinions welcome.

I'm thinking about going this route to fit a sub under the seat. Any issues since you've shimmed up an inch? Anything you'd do different? Thanks

 

Problem with bending the hooks is it causes the seats to recline back just a little. And then the sliding glass hits the headrest. Not so bad if you have a manual slider as you can pull on the headrest and get the window open. But it doesn’t work if you have a power slider. I cut on my first truck. Bent on my second truck. Then had to bend them back and cut again.

 

How did you raise the back part of the seat and still bolt it to the back wall? Mine has one tapped hole and if I raise it, it obviously won’t match up anymore. I’m trying to get more clearance for a sub like you mentioned.

 

Just tried to meet in the middle with both. A little more work, but I made the time. I'm very happy with the mod.

 

Thanks for the reply. I’m in the process now. Looks like shimming a little and bending a little is gonna work for me. Need a little more room to put a sub under the seat.

I can when the rain breaks. I used a piece of metal I had laying around and some washers to shim. About an inch worth and I was able to line up the back to original holes. I gained about 2” underneath. I banged on the U rings a few times with a rubber mallet so they moved down maybe 1/4” so the seats will go forward. Did not cut the brackets cuz I only had to bend the U’s a tiny bit with it shimmed.
I will say, like posted earlier, if I was to cut the brackets I would loosen the seats so they go forward and use a sawzall.

 

I need about 1" to clear my subs.

 

The “shims” measure 7/8” and I gained about 2” underneath. I’m going to see how it works for a bit and then replace with a cut piece of steel or aluminum.

So 7/8" will give 2" more clearance on the bottom?

 

I just measured again, shims are more like 3/4”. Under the seat back to the jack mount is 6” to where it will touch upholstery. Front edge is now 7.5”. Not sure if pic helps but here ya go

No problem. Trying to do same as you, fit a sub and have bonus of seats going forward. Going to the shop tomorrow and see how one fits. I’ll keep you posted and let me know how yours goes.
You’ll need longer bolts btw. Pretty sure they were M10x1.5 and 1.25” that I used and had plenty of thread engagement with the shim.

 

Sub fit. Ended up cutting out the jack hold and laying carpet over it. I can measure the 10” sub enclosure tomorrow if it would help you. It would not have fit with jack holder.

 

Just did this mod this afternoon. It took a bit but all good. I went the remove the brackets and use cutting wheel and hand file for edge clean up. OP thanks for starting the thread and others for adding tips!!
