I'm swapping out the cigarette lighter for a dual USB port socket. I thought I had read that the grey wire is positive and the white/black wire is negative. However I am not getting any power and my multimeter is not getting voltage like I do on the power port to the right. I'm wondering if I blew a fuse but wouldn't both ports be on the same fuse?

Sequoia owner here. In my truck, Cigarette lighter has different fuse than Power Outlet.

Check your user manual for confirmation.

Yep, that was it. The cig lighter had it's own 15A fuze and it was blown. I didn't have a spare so I took the 20A one for the seat heaters since I don't have heated seats. USB ports lit right up when I turned the key to accessory. Thank you!

Mind posting pics of the USB adapter you went with?

    Sure thing! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F84VVB4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You'd need to clip the factory connector off the back and add the female terminals to them. It comes with the blue ones but those are too big for the factory wiring, so you'll want to get the red ones. You will also need to use a Dremel and open up the hole for this one to fit. You don't have to be perfect with it since it includes a ring that will tighten it to the trim piece.

Grey is positive and white with black stripe is ground. This connector shows a plus and minus on the pins to show you which is which.

I also used this same USB outlet to replace the 12v in the rear of the center console. I like that it has a voltmeter built in.

Awesome! I just grabbed one too. How much did you shave off with the Dremel? I’m one of those “hesitant to alter stock” guys. Haha

Not a whole lot. I basically took the Dremel and went around the existing hole to enlarge it. Maybe 10-15 seconds total. You don't have to get it the exact size of the dual USB port outlet as it includes a locking ring you spin and tighten it to the base. Just be sure to get the red female terminals as the blue are too large for the factory wiring. Found that out the hard way, lol.

I used a unibit in my drill to enlarge the cig lighter mounting hole to accept the USB plug.

What about when you want to use a 12v air pump or other 12v accessory?

use either the one inside the center console or that one at the back of the center console.

edit: I had two 12v outlets up front. I only converted one to a USB outlet.

Ah. Any reason you don't want to use a usb adapter other than aesthetics? If it fails it's easily replaced.

    aesthetics, I suppose.
this is much cleaner than a plug-in and plug-ins fail as well. If my usb socket ever fails it’ll take about 15 minutes to replace.

edit: here’s a photo. I think it looks a lot better.

Um, Because more things use usb rather than 12v plug these days.

    Plus, it cleans it up.

I didn't cut anything out except the factory connectors as the dual USB ports use different ones. I spliced those together. I get that the 20A fuse isn't better than the 15A that the cig lighter normally uses, but I also won't be running anything power hungry with those ports either; maybe charging a phone or tablet.

    Lots o’ mods
I’ve got a couple USB ports waiting to be installed as soon as I get the truck back from being regeared, and I had the same mentality. It’s been a while since I’ve found myself needing a 12V plug over a USB. I think it’ll be an updated look over all, and as noted above, there are still some 12V receptacles in other areas if I really need one. I guess it all depends on what your most common day-to-day needs are.

I purchased a replacement portable air pump to one I broke, that I previously bought off Amazon years ago.
It originally had a 12v plug.
The new one came with a usb and zero 12v.

Swapped out my lighter ports in the rear of the console and 2 up front. All 3 appear to work just fine, however immediately after I now notice that my airbag light is on. Can anyone think of how this might be connected?

Scratch that. Pulled the that dash/console insert off and saw that I failed to reconnect the passenger airbag. All good!

As rapidly as USB charging formats change these days, I stick to adapters that can be swapped in 30 seconds for $25. Hell in the last 3 years I've had devices swing from USB-A to USB-3.1 to C to PD to whatever the hell we're at now. Thunderbolt 4? Bleh. Integrated just invites a slow-charge headache with a new phone, my two cents!

Bought a few of these a few years ago and still working. Threw out the cheaper ones I bought since they stopped charging correctly, especially off-roading!
    Agree with MedCityMoto above.

I love the Scosche magnetic mounts, I don't use Qi charging (too slow) so I use the XL plates stuck inside cheap Amazon cases, you'd have to throw the truck off Everest to get the thing to come off. It holds with almost as much force as my gun magnet, very impressive.
