Oil of Choice... Synthetic or Natural?

    What are your thoughts of when to change the synthetic oil, in the Tundra ? The manual says 10,000 miles, I think they are nuts !

    Since our newer Tundra's already have synthetic oil, the break in that is being discussed is not happening. Unless we dump the oil and put in 7.4 qts of reg oil.....

    If you put dino oil in with a engine that already has synthetic, i have read many reports as the engine sees more wear and blow-by to do to difference in oil (synthetic vs dino) with rings and bearings or worst spun out bearings. If your engine is already running synthetic enjoy it man makes life alot more simpler.

    If you want my .02 if the engine has synthetic in it keep using it. If the engine is dino oil then use dino oil unless you want the advance of synthetic in the engine. I have seen where people switch back and forth but in the long run the engine failed over a period of time (YMMV).

    Agree with Mike. Bought my Tacoma with 290 miles on it. Did a gradual switch to synthetic. At 190k I just changed my valve cover gaskets and everything looked brand new. I change it's oil anywhere from 7,500 to 15,000 miles depending on how long it's sat, how it's been driven, etc. Normally once a year I'll send a Blackstone sample out to check it. I know my 15 says 5,000 mile for synthetic but that defeats the purpose of synthetic.

    I'm running Amsoil OE 0W-20 and Amsoil
    $39 75W-90 GL-5 Limited Slip, Ultra Long Drain 500k Miles, Manual Transmission, Gear/Differential Lubricant (1 Gallon)
    75W-90 in the rear. Stock Toyota oil filters. What I normally do is change the filter at 5,000 and then top off from the loss of oil from the filter. Been working so far.
