The front plate will cover the front cats and the pipe going into the rear cats. The rear cats would still be exposed to show that cat itself and the rear pipe coming out of it. The rear plate is added extra protection to cover the rear cats and make the area harder to access. Bpth plates are for 2 or 4wd.

I had a short run of decals made, I need to make a bigger batch, I could sell them here or on my website for like $5

What kind of corrosion would happen with the bare steel, would it be advised to powder coat steel or go straight to aluminum in the northern states?

There is no easy answer here, but it is why I offer aluminum. Those in the rust belt and those who spend a lot of time on salty beaches, would likely want aluminum

For $50 bucks get the aluminum over the powder coated steel. Power coated steel without shipping is $500, Aluminum is $550 if picked up locally for both if I am interpreting the website correctly.

Aluminum would be fine unless you are in a high cat theft area. They could cut through it easily if they stay around long enough.

hopefully they would use a regular grinding disc and it would plug with aluminum and explode the disc.

I am not using my truck for offroad or anything like that so I don't need the 3/16 skid plate. Do you think 1/8 plate thickness is sufficient? I think that they can use the grinding disc to cut through the 1/8 plates easily and quickly.

Most are smash and grab so they won't stick around long. They will see the plates and keep moving. Some of us changed to true security bolts as well. 1/8 steel is sufficient.

Do you know where to buy the security bolts? Do you have specific size/type you can recommend? I am still waiting for my plates so I want to buy it ahead of time before my plates are ready.

I have these. They are out of stock currently but you can use 1.5 or 2 inch for the front plate. The rear plate would need 4 inch.

After reviewing camera footage, when they stole the passenger side and were almost done with the drivers side with the last cut half-way, it took them more than 4 mins. I ordered from Tyler and received both 1/4" aluminium plates. I ordered aluminum since where I currently live , they salt the streets. I am worried though about motivated thieves cutting through aluminum with a good blade. My first choice would have been stainless steel and after finding one out there, they were discontinued. Can anyone confirm how easy it is to cut through 1/4" aluminum plate?

With a good blade and sawzall, it wouldn't be that hard. The plates are designed to be a deterrent and most thieves would hopefully move on. Are they raw aluminum?....I would coat them black so it doesn't give it away at first sight of being aluminum....:notsure:

I went with steel on mine. I wasn't worried about weight...truck didn't even notice it.

They are raw and good idea on the paint. Yeah, I wasn't worried about the weight, just the rust.

The paint is a good idea, there is a mix of steel and aluminum in this picture, but you would never know the difference looking at it.

1/4 aluminum would be noisy as hell cutting, I don’t think a sawzall would cut through it like butter, I did a test on 3/16 aluminum, and I cut through it, but it wasn’t super quick.

Thanks for the input...I forgot about the noise. I should have remembered that as I was just recently cutting an aluminum stick to make a mount for my train horns.

I picked up my Shields from classy63 on Wednesday afternoon. He’s definitely a Great guy and making a Great product. After seeing how the Shields mount I can say it’s a Great design and will worth the cost compared to new Cats.
I painted them with two coats of self etching primer and three coats Ristoluimn Hammered metal gloss, not my best work but will work. He was out of mounting hardware so I’m going back on Monday or Tuesday to mount them up with his help.
