I recently bought my 2007 Tundra (TRD Limited) and my wife noticed that the front end of the console box has a loose screw. It's a plastic interior screw, and I tried screwing it back in, but it isn't catching. I felt behind the panel and it may be that the screw broke off while threaded in, as if someone tried to just pull it out, rather than unscrew it. The screw in question is part number 58811D, shown here:

So, my question is how would I go about tackling this? Any tips, advice or direction on how to remove a plastic screw with the head broken off? Pic is also attached. The screw is the lower front under the dash.

    Thanks for any help!

It's a plastic rivet type screw, or "push retainer".

    Similar to one of these.

They don't quite "catch"... And they are also a bit difficult to remove. Sort of have to unscrew with a Phillips as you pry it out with a flat tip.

But to be honest it's likely the way it's supposed to be. Unless it's been pulled out and put in a few times recently, in which case it may be broke, or worn out. At which point I'd suggest you get one of the kits with all sizes of push rivets and pick the biggest one that fits.

Thanks for the reply. I thought they just unscrewed, but I learned how to pop them out. After removing it I saw that the clip was not broken, so I felt the hole it goes into and it feels like one area of it has broken off, so there isn't anything for the clip to attach to/catch the clip. Bummer.

might be able to just toss a washer on there before the plastic push rivet. or you might be able to find a push pin with a larger diameter head.

Same thing happened to me. I used a zip tie to hold it since the screw hole was broken. I could have moved the molding a bit to drill a new hole but you can’t really see it.
