I heard a rumor today that my Century topper might have come in earlier than predicted :monocle:. Will find out for sure when I go to the dealer tomorrow. The anticipation is building! :yay:

I'm going to need to rig something to my garage ceiling. My cap is very heavy; it takes 4 people to lift it with enough control not to tweak it or scratch the truck. I'm also just now realizing that weight cuts into my payload/tongue weight for summer adventures :monocle:. I wouldn't mind pulling it for the summer just to run something different until winter roles around.

I also have the overhangs down both sides that are not meant to support the cap's weight so it will need to rest on a frame built specifically for the purpose.

I wish I had a picture of my old setup, it's hard to explain but worked great. The key was I had two boards that were over length with eye bolts bolted on the 4 corners. I attached cables to both ends of eye bolts on either side and then put the cables in the hook of the hoist. Once I got it lifted all the way up I then secured it with two additional ratchet strap to the ceiling supporting the top where I had mounted additional eye bolts. That way if one system failed the other would support it.

Thinking of using the original shipping boards to protect the overhang, then setting it on something like the guy in this video.

Yep that's exactly what I'm talking about  and yea with the overhang you'd have to have something additional to protect it. I just would not go with the junky strap set up he's got going on there . Definitely use a hoist either manual or electric and support with straps once up

Also just to be on the safe side don't use those little pull straps like this dude. I use legit ratchets and it may be overkill but mine are 1000lbs rated CAT straps. Better safe than sorry when dealing with a 2500-4000 dollar cap

Well, the rumor was true! My topper did come in. So the Tundra is at the shop getting the topper installed. Can't wait to see what it looks like!

And yes, I was quoting myself!

Recommendations on a hoist setup? Manual is fine as this will not be a regular activity.

Ratchet straps aren't really designed for lots of travel. I'm looking at needing 5+ feet of uptake. I could see ratchet straps a a viable options for extra security once in place

I use a chain hoist and nylon slings just like I do when hanging giant TVs in Sports Bars so I already had all the stuff.

    https://www.liftingequipmentstore.u...nQkuM6FN_JEyguKVujthyFtxlUO8zTjcaAk-YEALw_wcB

    https://www.liftingequipmentstore.us/product/green-round-sling-5300lbs

You can get a hoist in any fall distance that you need and they make easy work of the heaviest lift really.

Round slings are great for wrapping the cap for lifting or lifting 2. lumber for the lift depending on your setup.

If you're going to be lifting more than just your cap and need the weight capacity, the chain hoist is the economical way to go.

If you already have one and all else needed to use it the chain hoist is the way to go too!

It is not just the economics of it all but chain hoists are pretty useful in a lot of ways once you have one and do not require power outside of your arm too.

Ahh, sorry, just saw this. Yep! I have the full rear door going on this next week. Some parts were backordered with an unknown ship date, so they shipped it with the half(regular) door, but the tailgate's coming off shortly!

Thanks for answering I just couldnt imagine what you were saying otherwise?

Is it a single door that opens upward or French Doors like mine?

The single door, or ARE calls it their "walk in door" (https://www.4are.com/product/walkin/). I'll be sure to take pics once it's on. I mostly use my truck as a hunting/fishing camp, and with a dog, walk in door gives a little easier access in and out than the tailgate. I'm also keeping the door that's on now, so I can switch back to the tailgate/half door if I need it.

It did get installed Friday, but I didn't get on the computer over the weekend. :anonymous: I will post some pics this evening after I get home from work.

Unfortunately, the factory screwed up and forgot the Thule racks I ordered for the top. :frusty:

The dealer was going to check in with them today and see what happened (it was too late on Friday afternoon to do so then). I'll eventually have to go back a second time for that install.

    EDIT: Here's a photo.

    Truck looks good!!!

I was planning on Racks by Thule but they are on back order so I switched to Yakima rack instead. Installed them on the weekend cost was only $40 more than Thule IMG_3707.jpg
