Help with fuel injector install

Got a couple more parts for the old girl. It’s going to feel good to change the fuel filter.

 

*laughs in no fuel filter!

 

Get some of this and wrap those threads about 4 times before tightening the flare nuts.

 

Everything besides the fuel filter is in. I let it sit for a day so the rubber set well(the stuff in the tube used for the half moons and the corners of the valve covers). She drives smooth. I can't wait to fix my exhaust system. That should be the final item for the performance side of things to do on the truck.... Unless you all think there's something else I should really consider doing?

So I’m trying to replace the fuel filter and things are not going great. I can’t stop the gas from spilling. It’s just coming none stop.
I couldn’t put the yellow gas tap around the threads because of this.
I tightened as much as I could without the yellow tape but it’s dripping this way.
There’s a lot of gasoline...

I’m thinking me being parked on a decline might have something to do with it? Would I be safe to tighten as much as possible and move the truck to a more level area?

 

Did you run your tank down close to empty?

I'd bet not.... you just dumped like $7 on the ground....

 

I didn’t do anything close to that. Basically full tank

 

Changed mine 3 months ago. I didn't use any tape, no leaks here. I had more issues with the plastic connector downstream.

 

Bummer. You'll lose more petrol to swap that fuel filter.

 

Yeah those plastic clips broke apart real quick

 

Not worried about that, just like to get it to stop leaking at this point.

 

What side is leaking?

 

Did you pop the gas cap loose to vent the tank and prevent expansion from pushing fuel out?

 

Keep in mind this is on my 04 Sequoia so things might be a little different.

I didn't use any tape on the metal flare nut, I had issues with the red plastic keeper going back to its normal position. Everything is clipped in and sealed up, the hose clamp is just insurance.

 

Yep, helps big time.

 

I did but then closed it cause it was leaking a lot. Nothing really changed after closing it... kept leaking

towards the front of the truck. The back side doesn’t seem to be leaking but then again it isn’t under much pressure. Glad I have the entire weekend to figure it out.
It’s tight enough now where it’s only dripping into a pan. Good enough for now.

 

It. Can. Be. Done.

You’ll need patience which it seems you have and some Hand Skills for Tape Wrap.

1) Loosen the Filter Frame Mount Bolts a hair such that it has some wiggle room Mojo.

2) Disconnect both flares/lines again. The dripping will ensue so you’ll be ready with bucket. I like a taller bucket than yours so its easier to move around and less slash back.

3) Do the ‘non dripping’ flare line side first. This is practice for the Big Time Hand Moves on the other side. Wrap 4 wraps as best as possible. If you get sloppy tear the shit back off and re-do. Now... concentrate on the thumb to index money move when finding the flare groove on insert. You got this gurl! Tighten most of the way by wrenches but don’t crank it yet. *Remember* the two frame mount bolts are still slightly loose for wiggle Mojo.

4) Now you are ready for the Big Time. Take a deep breath to inhale some more fumes and embrace the Pucks Rocky Mount Head Rush. You may begin entering into a mind warp at this point. This is living on the Edge of Ying and Yang!

5) This side is gonna drip, as you know. Here is where I performed one of my best Hand Moves ever. Sadly, no audience but we can relive it here together. ***I pushed the flared pipe into the filter and held it which reduced the dripping to almost nothing! Simultaneously, I did the Tape Wrap Move using the other Hand. This is high level shtuff here! Spin the flare nut and watch the Tape Wrap around it like a 2.0.

6) Now repeat the Flare Nut insert twist insertion like the other side. Tighten her down using the two wrench technique. Move over the the first side and tighten that down for the final torque. Move up and tighten the Frame Bolts to secure the final Mojo location on the Frame Mount.

 

All done. A couple tips for guys like me in the future.
1- an ear plug in the line coming from the gas tank plugs things up nicely so you can work in peace.


2- the fuel filter has rivets you need to align with the holder. The screw won’t reach unless they are aligned.
