Battery light is on...alternator or battery?

    Just use petroleum jelly...good to go and cheap. no moisture no corrosion.

    Yeah Jelly is an arrow in the quiver, but I found a tube of the NoAlox on a street corner and decided to give it a whirl. It can be used almost anywhere with plastics, rubber, all metals electric connections. An all around top notch product. Actually promotes conductivity while protecting versus just a lay over layer which on some connections isn’t ideal and may block conductivity.

    Grab a bottle and try it. Can be used on the house stuff, as well.

    I checked your Permatex Spray which seems about as ok as a Jelly Overlay. They claim it promotes conductivity, but I fail to see how based on their Spec Sheet Breakdown. I don’t see a conductor in the formula.

    I never studied the ingredients to see if it should work, only paid the money and tried it to see if it worked. It worked for me, but if you apply too much it can be a big freaking mess. The Prestone will dry slightly; grease never dries.

    When they say "it promotes conductivity", I believe that's marketing speak written by a BA in advertising. It's just more copy to fill up label space. I believe it's another way of saying it promotes conductivity by eliminating corrosion, not by improving conduction across the gap. You know, similar to that transmission warmer/cooler thing on 2019+ Tundras. :D

    Sorry for the late reply! It was definitely electric bake light. It was towed to the shop today and they fixed it in the same day and I drove it home. If anyone in the Silverdale Wa. Area needs work done on a vehicle, the guys at the Goodyear shop on silverdale way rock.

    Anyway, the problem was solely the alternator. No blown fuses, all wiring is good, alternator itself had an internal short and caused it to fail. Can’t quite remember why he said it started smoking but what he said made sense. Truck now has a reman (could not find any stock replacement alternators) 130 amp alternator. Runs and starts like a champ.

    Nothing wrong with an early replace if in there. In your case it needed it. I wonder what caused the short inside. You have lots of salts on road?

    No salts at all. Pretty sure the truck has never seen salt. Purchased from the original owner who was local.

    Don't tell my 1997 T100's alternator that is original at 264,000 miles (I did just recently put in a 2nd set of new brushes).
