I cut the bumper mounting plates off the old bumper extensions and welded them over the top of the factory frame horns for a little more meat. The stock frame horns are only like 1/8"

I went on automotivetouchup.com and used the colormatch option and the high gloss clear coat!

5.7? Did you install the block off plates as well or did you just do the module/wiring to disable the system?

Pretty sure I got counterfeit "OEM Denso" spark plugs on ebay a couple years ago before I knew better. They cost half of what the online dealers charge and the seller is no longer a registered ebay user. All 8 were gapped to .044" when installed, all around .060" now just 10k miles and no ground pad visible on the strap. I pulled them since I got suspicious with a single cylinder misfire fault code and loss of fuel economy.

Buy genuine or from a reputable source!

It's a 5.7 liter. As I understand it, if the switching valves are not stuck open then the blocking plates aren't needed. AIP system was not malfunctioning yet so the bypass was all that was required. I still have the block off plates and an additional module to install if one of the sensors goes bad. I don't anticipate that though.

Always wanted to do this, but was told not to paint chrome. This sounds like a good way to do it.

Got new rear Husky X-act floor mat installed. I love how well they fill in the whole flooring area.

Drain and fill on the transmission with WS from the dealer.

    - Drained about 4oz shy of 4 quarts without letting it drizzle much at all
    - Replaced with 4 full quarts
    - Drained off 8oz @ 120° in the pan according to my torque app. Thermostat pinned open for warm up and level check.

I've always been about oem fluids in trannys. My plan now is to do an annual drain and fill to keep the additives fresh.

Sorry, no pics. I used a length of 1/2 clear tube from lowes, a plastic barb coupler inserted into the tranny end and a funnel in the engine bay on the other end. SO much faster than using a hand pump from below.

Edit: I did take one picture while at the dealer. My boy and I spotted a Voodoo blue Tacoma in the showroom.:D There was only 1 new Tundra on the lot.

I've never seen the blue/brown two tone paint before. :p

    Blown Engine.....
Went to Disney Mud Run over the weekend and got some new pinstripes. Knocked my mirror off and busted the lens on my driver side tail light. Time now for fiberglass bubble bedsides and front fenders to match. I think I want to do a 3rd Gen facelift while I'm at it.....

After looking for a LONG time...found a Jason camper shell about 3 hrs from home & snatched it up. Saying 6.5 toppers are rare around here is an understatement. Color-match paint job coming soon

What are they going for in your part of the country? I'm looking for one myself. The cost to paint it in Los Angeles is around $750.

Heck, I'd drive it around like that. That two tone is slick!

I got very lucky and got this one for $350. It was on Marketplace about 2 hrs when I saw it. All glass intact, keys & clamps included. A few scratches & nicks here/there. I can't say what a bodyshop around here would charge me. Got a buddy who does car restos & he's doing me a favor. I'm in Southern IL -West KY area & I was thinking $4-500 would get it done if I just walked in off the street & asked.

I know it's a lesser brand than say an ARE, Leer or Snugtop but it will work fine for me.

Edit: The window struts are shot. Those will need to be replaced.

$350? Holy cow! I don't care if it's not a Snugtop, it has a very streamlined shape.

I went thru this exercise a couple of years ago when I got my cap.

After getting several quotes ranging from $550 to roughly $700, and being the tight a$$ that I am, and figuring I love projects, I decided why not give it a go myself.

This is what I started with. My daughter said it looks like an ambulance.
    IMG_20190121_130927431_HDR.jpg

Set it on some blocks in the side-yard and proceeded to pull all the windows out and started sanding.

I bought the cheap $15 Harbor Freight purple spray gun and I found the paint/primer on the interwebs at, of all places, Walmart online! Also, I had/have pretty much ZERO automotive painting experience. Taking my time to prep and paint, and trying not to be too OCD, I think were the keys to getting something half way decent.
    IMG_20190227_110932054.jpg

$150 and a few hours of labor later and this is it. Saved some $$$$ and it was quite the fun project. I'd encourage anyone to give it a try.
