Katana light upgrade. No fog lights.

As title states. Plugged in the katana h4 LED lights. Newer model that @Professional Hand Model recommended. I read somewhere that some people had issues with fog lights not working properly. Mine just turn on the high beams. These are the only LED lights on the truck. Also it is a 2006 double cab 4wd. Thanks

 

The later Gens seem to have this problem. Not sure of the fix. Resistors?

Oh I missed the issue, so you plugged them in but it just runs high beam? These should have built in drivers to regulate the power right? Maybe defective.

 

@Darkness. lows work. Highs work. When I checked the fog lights. It turned my highs on and fogs stayed off.

This is normal in the later 1st Gens.

Not sure if LED Fogs would solve the problem or not. The guys at HeadLight Revolution said that may be a fix.

Keep in mind I bought and installed LED Fogs first and then did the Headlights 6 months later. When considering Headlights purchase with HR I asked if there would be a problem with the Fogs turning off (per reviewers) and they said no because they were already LED.

Makes sense and doesn't make sense. I reached out to katana via Amazon. I'll keep digging. No problem swapping all over to LED because that was original intention. Just started with this.

 

You need a resistor. It will plug into your driver's side light and correct the fog issue.

Thanks for all replies. Katana is sending me a resistor to put in place. I have about $150 worth of led in my shopping cart with super bright led website to do swap over much of the truck. I need to do a test to see if my truck is a canbus system or not before I place the order.

 

I installed a set of AuxLights LED’s Headlights And Foglights bulbs in my 04 tundra and had the exact same problem. After a little research ordered a single load resister from super bright led dot co m $8.95 installed on the passenger side headlight (plug’n play) amazing what a difference these lights make, love’em

 

Just remember resistors get hot and can melt stuff

be mindful where you mount it

 

Affirm. Mounted to metal away from any plastic.

 

I'm pretty sure it's because of the LED fogs. I have a 2000 and just installed the Katanas and lost my fogs. Strangely, I also lost the blue "brights" light on the instrument panel.

Can anyone link the resistor they used? TIA

Or should I just get Katana fogs? much cheaper than anything I've seen on headlight revo

 

Give it a try. Better than resistors if it works. Never had an issue, yet. Switch back to your old bulbs in the Headlights and put in the LED Fogs and make sure they work proper, then put the Katanas back in. Hope it helps.

Note: Never used Katana Fogs. Mine are High Dolla Supernovas.

 

If you decide to get the resistors contact katana and tell them about your issue. They will send you the resistors for free. That’s what I did.

 

I'm gonna do that as well just in case. I looked at superbrightled dot com and they're out of stock until late March.
I'm in love with the Katanas. Can't wait to see how they look paired with LED fogs

 

Looks good! Here’s a pic of mine( low beams) Definitely a lot better.

 

My favorite lights are my Fogs SupernNovas. When I turn them off, the light is so reduced compared to before. Also, that wrap around light from the Fogs disappears. I couldn’t imagine driving just with Head Lamps.

Very interested in seeing/hearing how these Katana Fogs perform.

 

Interesting, I may consider upgrading my fogs in the future. I’m happy with my headlights for now, no problems. Thank you sir for the katanas recommendation btw!

 

I'm here to report that my Katana fogs finally arrived today. They were scheduled to arrive on Saturday but "A" listed them as lost and there was no tracking info until they were delivered today. I threw them in and to my dismay they don't work with my Katana H4s. I had already reached out to Katana and they said they were going to send me the resistor but I had my fingers crossed that they would miraculously work for me ( like PHM's). I'm thinking about just doing the anytime fog mod so I don't have to install a hot resistor near my airbox but that step by step for the 00-02 is hard to find.

I did unplug one of the H4s and threw back in the halogen and the fogs then lit up so at least I know they're working. Pulling out the halogen then burned a hole in the rubber palm of the glove I was wearing! I'm going on vacay to Santa Fe next week so hopefully when I return the resistor is here.
At which point I'll take pics.

True dat. Those high dollas prolly have some built in resistors or something.
But I'm back from vacay and got the katana LED fogs installed and oh wow. I thought just the low beams were rad but these things light up both shoulders of the road. I have been driving around at night as much as I can the past two nights and so far no flashes. I asked my gf to drive opposite of me and she said they look "normal" from her perspective.

I had to break out the DSLR because phone cameras never maintain the same ISO, shutter and Aperture. I wanted these photos to be as accurate as possible so that you all can see the difference these fogs make. For $35 they are rad. "A" actually refunded me because they were lost in the mail for a couple of days but I'll definitely order again when I need to. Katana sent me 2 resistors and I used metal zip ties to attach one to the metal body above my driver side light housing. No issues and everything works again like normal. Highly recommend.

Lights looks slanted cause fence slats are level and driveway is sloped. Also, fence is approximately 30ft away from headlights

Nice. We have an unfair advantage with our Sweet Chrome Wraparound Front Bumpers. The Fogs design on the 00-02 is far superior than the later years. Your lighting looks nice. The High Dollas might have a little better output, but these are close.
