hello, my beloved 2007 tundra 4x4 with the 5.7 have developed a shudder when the lock up for the torque converter occurs. I already replaced transmission fluid and filter, no change, and my vin number is directly related to the tsb for the torque converter. also the transmission is working a little hot, in the 235f range, by the torque application. mine does not have the cooler, by the way. so, look like the torque converter is fried. now, what you recommend as far as a good torque converter replacement that is not going to break the bank?

I’d say either a junkyard, auto store, or a performance one. Junkyard would be the cheapest. Auto stores usually carry the same brand that is renamed for oem. I remember seeing a website that sold performance ones but don’t remember it now. It all depends on how much you want to spend. I just searched google and found some on eBay and partsgeek for $300 or less vs $1000 or more for oem.

    Welcome.

My 2007 would shudder going from 4th to 5th every now and then, my solution is to drive it in S4 shifting into S5 & S6 as needed while driving, and back to S4 when stopped. I have not experienced a shudder since driving in this fashion.

    Give it a try.

thanks for the answer's and the welcoming, I want to go the new converter route, but I can not find much about who makes the oem converter, since this vehicle is put together in the states, it can be really any manufacturer!

it is honestly getting worse, and also afecting the transmission, since instead of locking up, it slip's , them it overheats the oil, I tried everything from driving manually in sport to what you recommend, but every time the flex lock up intervenes it do the rumble thing.

is too much work to put a used one, that may be a really good one, or not. I can not find who makes the oem. thanks for replying!

For the gigantic PITA that it is to change out a torque converter, I would buy a Toyota OE one.
