One of the salesman offered an option to rent the units @35 p/month with 2 free bags of salt every month or I can go with a regeneration unit..which should I prefer? Or I can buy outright..

Rentals are only as good as the company installing & servicing the system.
Are all repairs & maintenance included, and how long do you plan to stay in the house?

Comes with 15yr warranty if something goes wrong, the company has been in business for 30yrs, they are a local company,, as far as staying in this house prbbly longer then anticipated..

    Sounds good.

City or well water, and what is the piece of equipment you get for $35 per month?

The 5600 is a lower priced work horse, I always like to put a back-washable carbon filter ahead of a softener on city water to strip out chlorine, byproducts of chlorination / dissinfection and other chemicals that may be in the water. Cooking with this water should bot be a problem.

Got the seals installed and put back together and so far no leaks. Think the video you provided took care of me - thank you.

I ran through a regen cycle, happening now and still no leaks.

During regen, does all the that was put into the tank, get sucked out? How much should remain, if any?

Water level is at salt level 1 in the pic.
Salt level is also at 1 directly below the water line.

    Thank You.

You are welcome, I'm here to help.
I would allow the salt to run completely out, then clean out debris. After it's cleaned out, force it to regenerate one more time... the valve will add a measured amount of water, now add just one bag of salt pellets - whatever the water level is at that point in the process is your normal water level.

I installed the filter yesterday and today got the wife’s blessing on it. Great tasting water.
    Thanks for the recommendation

I’m assuming this can this be installed in the basement as opposed to under the sink. Or do you recommend a different system for this type of install? I would be feeding a new drinking faucet at sink and change the fridge over as well. Thanks!

My inexpert opinion would be that you could place it wherever you want. Just need longer lengths of 1/4 and 3/8 tubing.

    Correct.
The filter can be installed just about anywhere, and you can T off to a 2nd faucet or the ice maker.
When it comes to ice makers, these filters have a flow rate of .75 to 1.0 gpm - make sure your ice maker is compatible.

@Rex Kramer Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Based on reading your recommendations in this thread and doing some research, seems like the best route to go is Fleck 2510sxt with vortech tank. I'm in Southern California and looking to reduce hard water. Trying to get a softener before I install the tankless water heater I bought. Water hardness per report of Municipal water is 148 for groundwater and 104 for surface water so it confirms what I see around the house.

Hard to find that combo you mentioned aside from the following link http://www.glasswatersystems.com/fl25elmeonde2.html

I upgraded to the stainless steel bypass and that's about it. Any other recommendations or vendors? Family of 5 if that helps.

That Fleck unit with the stainless bypass looks good... if the water is chlorinated, you need to upgrade the resin to chlorine resistant. And/or you can install a 2510 xst Vortech carbon filter ahead of the softener.

Is the water hardness measured in grains per gallon (GPG)?

It's calcium carbonate measured in mg/L (milligrams per liter). Divided by 17.1 would give you a gpg of 8.65 for ground water and 6 for surface water.

Excellent - that's moderately hard water, and the Fleck system will serve you well.

How much would you oversize a system? Based on 5 people which is one more than I currently have, I would need a 25,000 grain system. 5 people x 80 gallons per day x 9 gpg x 7 days a week. If you get a smaller system, is it a matter of adding more grains to upsize it?

a 10x44 Vortech holds about 1 cubic foot of resin, that and a metered 2510 sxt control valve is all you need.

You either have a filter to adsorb the chlorine, or you are the filter that adsorbs chlorine or inhales the gas when showering.

Pour two clear glasses of unfiltered chlorinated tap water, put 3 drops of OTO in one glass and watch the water change color to yellow or orange indicating the presence of chlorine. Now stick two of your fingers as deep as you can in the other glass, keep them there for about a minute... remove your fingers and add 3 drops of OTO, there should not be any chlorine left to react with the OTO because it has been adsorbed into your skin.

    None, yet....
    Hey @Rex Kramer ,

Really appreciate you doing this. It’s a huge help to this forum! I’d also like to jump on the bandwagon and ask some questions.

    Some background on our situation:

We just bought a place north of DFW out in the country. Water supply is apparently a “co-op”, which I am told means we get half from municipal and half from a well <- this is a new term for me, please correct me if I am wrong. After being here for a couple of weeks, I noticed that there is a slight slimy feel to the water. No abnormal smell, but when I wash my hands, it feels like i can’t rinse the soap off my hands. Also, water tastes like shit. Hard to explain, but its fairly metallic. Started doing some digging around and the toilet tanks are coated in a brownish/reddish type film and there is what appears to be sediment in the dishwasher. I initially assumed it was related to hard water, but Culligan was here today and they said our water isn’t hard. They measured our water and got the following:

Water test, at least according to the paper they left:
    • Ph: 7.5
    • TDS: ~300ppm
    • Hardness: 0 gpg
Their recommendation to address what we have:
    • Under sink RO system with 9gal tank - I have a large fish tank, this makes it easy to do water changes. I am open to other options though.
      • upload_2021-2-20_23-32-30.jpg
    • Sediment pre-filter, which I assume is a cartridge style filter. See pic
      • upload_2021-2-20_23-25-44.jpg
    • A catalytic carbon whole home filter, Model # RO6, which i presume is like the pic below.
      • upload_2021-2-20_23-30-23.jpg

Before I spend $4k with these people, could I get a second opinion? My “salesman” wasn’t very good and couldn’t explain in detail to what we were getting and since their website is hot garbage, this is what I have been able to put together. Any input is appreciated!

    Thanks!

Probably been asked but i have a simple one. I have 3 sinks in my house that i would like to put a water filter on (cold side for drinking water). What would you recommend? One has a filter on it now but it lasts like 3 months and the water takes like 12 years to get cold for some reason lol.

    Save your $4K !!

The dual source water supply is not all that strange, and your test results indicate that you have soft water. Soft water is the cause of the slick feeling, use less soap, conditioner, detergent, etc.

For your drinking water, I recommend a Multi-Pure MP750 that is mentioned in the reply below.

I would install a spin down sediment filter that treats the whole house, Rusco is the brand I use... it has a clear housing, it is flush-able as well as cleanable. Just make sure you install a cut-off valve on either side of it. http://www.rusco.com/index.php/product1/spin-down-and-sediment-trapper-filters

The best value in drinking water filters is a solid carbon block filter from Multi-Pure. The MP750 can supply two, sometimes three separate dedicated cold water faucets, and you change the filter cartridge one a year. You can also install a filter for each sink. Read about them here http://athenswater.com/MulTi_Pure.htm and be sure and use my Distributor # 114579 so I receive credit for the sale - thank you.

    "scale prevention"

    Don't waste your money.

Ion exchange is the very best way to soften household water.

Is there a way to locate where I can buy

“a metered 2510 sxt Fleck control valve on a 10x44 Vortech tank for the softener”

All of my searches to find such a setup comes up empty and nobody can help me. According to you I can you ship it to me but you said I can get it cheaper locally. Where?? That is the help I am looking for, these are not like going to a store and picking out your valves and tank and tell the place that is what you are looking for. If there is a way to do that PLEASE a let me know. Would really like to get my soft water installed
