It's a multi purpose setup. It will come in handy while trailing with the guys. Also i've recently had to change multiple tires on other vehicles out on the road. This will give me the air to run an impact wrench on the lugs. I also Do a lot of manual wrenching on never ending projects I seem to come up with so this will be my go to making them easier. It will also come in very handy working on the boat when docked. There's always something that needs fixed on the boat :). Overall in my scenario, I think it was a solid investment.

Gotta give @Bannock452 a shout out. I pretty much copied (to the best of my ability) his idea. I made my own mount to specifically hold my compressor. It sits a little lower than his, and mine is much more difficult to install. My Smittybilt 2871 compressor barely fits. Thanks for all the info, everyone.

I've got the ARB twin on a Rago mount. When airing up your tires and your friends tires the air compressor can get extremely hot. With a laser thermometer I simulated airing up my 37s twice (15psi to 35psi: deflated, inflated, deflated, inflated) and recorded the compressor temperature to average out at 265 degrees with the hottest reaching 288 degrees. Heat will eventually damage the air compressor so I installed a fan to cool it down. Keeps temperature steady at ~150 degrees. The fan turns on whenever the compressor is powered on.

Do you have any pics of the tray you built? I have the same Smitty compressor and have recently considered mounting it in that location. Thanks!

Yep. Uses all existing mounting locations. I recently added another mount to the upper inner fender to reduce vibration. Still working on a solution to omit more of the vibration. Everything is tight and holding up after some pretty violent off-road runs, but seems like it could be better. D09793F4-2874-412F-9875-B8565F1EA298.jpg

How hot does that thing get tucked up in there? Do you lift the hood for air circulation when you use it? I have the Viair version of that one and it gets hot as hell when I air up all four tires in summer. I can see it getting really hot when it's 95 degrees outside.

I raise the hood also. My goal was to not have to do that, but this compressor gets crazy hot too. I’ll need to air all four tires this coming summer too, Where I live it gets up to 110F. So the hood will go up.

To the guys with ARB dual compressor, once you're done airing up, do you leave the hood open and let it cool off for a while (if so, how long?) before closing the hood and driving off?

I just installed the Rago mount yesterday, still waiting on the rest of the system to come. Did you notice a big improvement with the air tank you added next to the compressor? I’m trying to decide if I should add this or not. I too am installing the wifey air system aswell.

After a couple years of using a viair 440p I was finding myself reluctant to air down because of how time consuming it was to air down/up. I got some Staun tire deflators and an ARB twin and I couldn't be happier. I air down every chance I get now.

SDHQ mount and my own 8AWG harness run the long way up front behind the grill instead of visible on the firewall.20210107_153008.jpg

If your goal is simply to air up/down your tires then you do not need the tank. My goal was to also drive air tools as well. I have the one gallon tank beside the compressor and also a two gallon tank under the truck. This gives me enough air to break and remove the logs with an impact wrench. I am very happy with the setup and have used it numerous working on things.

Do you need the gauges after the compressor if running a tank? Doesnt the ARB have an internal shutoff once full? The reason Im asking is because I had the ARB and 1 gallon tank mounted on my Tacoma and it would shutoff once full. I am now mounting the same compressor but going to do larger tank for air tools if I find myself in that situation and mainly train horns. Was just curious if the guages are needed before I start the install. Thanks

The ARB twin compressor does have an auto shut off at about 150 psi so you technically do not need a gauge. However, I always plan for the worst and included 2 gauges in case the auto shut off fails. One gauge is 0 to 60 for tire fill ups and the other is 0 to 160 for air tools. I also j closed an in-line shut off valve and pressure release valve.

I have run a Puma 12v for the last 10+ years problem free. I have used it in its stock configuration, divorced mounted to the frame with a larger tank and air fittings at both bumpers on a switch in the cab, and divorced with no tank. I run a homemade 4 tire inflation setup. That Napa compressor looks intriguing because the Puma is large and heavy. If you are not familiar with the Puma look them up on IH8Mud.
