    Throttle Body Coolant Bypass with Ball Valve Mod

    3 Way Ball Valves
    The ones I purchased below came with all the clamps I needed.

    You will also need about 4 inches of 5/16 tubing for the bypass for non winter months.

    Start off by taking off your intake tube and unbolting your Throttle Body. Unplug the electrical harness and be careful not to lose the rubber seal inside.

    From here you can disconnect the 2 radiator hoses going to the TB.

    Determine where you want to place your 3 way Ball valves and cut the tube and in goes the valve. I decided to use 2 valves to be able to prevent fluid from seeping back up because eventually the fluid will all equalize thus warming up your TB.

    Attached are pictures of what I did. Be cautious of how close your bypass hose is to the radiator fan and don’t mess with it while the truck is on and fan is spinning.

    Why couldnt you just splice a single valve into one line and just turn the flow on or off? Is there something critical that the coolant goes through before or after the TB?

    I did a little reading and it sounds like, in a lot of cases, the heated TB's are to prevent freezing. I would guess its pretty rare, but if water pooled in the TB for some reason and froze, the plate could get stuck, which is probably why the coolant only passes through the bottom of the TB housing where the water would pool.
