Anyone running RCI rock sliders? I recently installed RCI engine and transfer case skids and planning to purchase the sliders. I can't seem to find much videos or pictures on the sliders and just wondering what everyone's input is.20210129_152333.jpg

Is that the steel or aluminum skid?

I went with steel, its about 20lbs heavier than aluminum but supposedly stronger.

Nice. I ordered the aluminum on Thursday but no idea when it will ship. I went with aluminum to save a little weight since the DE skid for the cats is steel.

I believe the shipment took about a little over two weeks. The install took me about two hours and they look and feel solid. Planning to test them out during spring break.

Took right about 8 weeks for my order to arrive and I ordered in July. But that was much closer to the beginnings of the Covid shut downs.

I had RCI plates on my Expedition so 2 days after I got my Tundra I ordered the plates.

I ordered the sliders as well. Really was wanting Whiteknuckles, but with 20% off I had to.

I have the RCI sliders. They're solid but there are some issues with the way they fit and the hardware they include.

The mounting plates and wrap around that mate to the frame are straight whereas the frame curves so there are some gaps. The reinforcing washers I got were all D shaped, I imagine for clearance, and have scary little edge distance from the hole. I ended up making a bunch of SST backing plates of my own and only used one of theirs where there was interference. Mine also didn't come with special nut plates for the attach point near the gas tank but I think they fixed that since.

At the time I got them they were the only good bolt on option. Now I'd probably go with CBI or consider a set that needs holes drilled.

I’m happy with the RCI sliders. Install was straight forward and fast. There are a few holes to drill in th frame to get the most out of the bolt on design but I am confident they will serve the needs of most without any drilling.

I just put on my RCI alum skids. Really nice product. Impressed me enough to order a set of their sliders.

They offer a pretty competitive rate for military.
I'd save about 80 bucks if I went with RCI rn but need to get some other things before I pull the trigger on sliders so that's why I was gonna go with R4T.

I have them and really like them. I have never had any other slider, so I have nothing to compare to, but they are solid, low-profile, and work great as steps (the most solid I have ever had). I have not had an instance where I have tested the ‘slider’ component, thankfully? But I trust they’ll serve me well.

These are my first sliders, but I’m happy with them. They’ve held up well and no problems with the powder coat and winter salt so far.

I did the install alone with the help of a bottle jack and the shipping pallet they came on. It wasn’t too bad. I have the factory extended gas tank and it was a PAIN to get that bolt in. I don’t think RCI considered that in their design (or maybe they did and there just wasn’t a better way).

At the time I purchased them, RCI was the only completely bolt on option that could support the entire weight of the truck. As @Rolling Biome said, I would consider the CBIs now too.

The CBIs run the entire length between wheels while the RCIs stop a little short in the rear on my 2018 crew max. Not going to lie, that bothers me a little even though it’s unlikely to cause an issue.

However, the RCIs do have more top plate area than the CBIs. That comes in handy for my dogs jumping in and out of the backseat.

Hopefully, those pros and cons help you with the decision.

Thank you for your input, I do plan to hit quit a few trails and the full length of protection really matters to me. Im happy with their skids so far and also want matching sliders to go with it but just need all the pros and cons before making my final decision.

Even though the RCIs don’t extend all the way to the rear tire, they do have a kick out. So I think it’s pretty safe. Like I said before, it bothers me more than it probably should.

No experience with RCI, but I do have the CBI and like them so far. They're just wide enough for me to use as a step if needed but not so wide that they get in the way. Also liked that they didn't require drilling. And they feel like they could stop a tank.

Yes the bolts by the gas tank suck. Curse and smash your hands in there. That one bolt took as long as the whole other side.

Did you have to drop or loosen the fuel tank to bolt the sliders on?
