so I purchased an item (arrives to me Jan 17) for my truck that I'm overall pretty happy with. However, when it arrived, one of the parts had some issues. I emailed the company the minute I unboxed it with detailed pictures. They acknowledged the oversight and error on their part and said they'd ship out the new part. It's a custom part that only they sell.

4 weeks go by and I remind them about the issue, they say they're on it and will get it out next week. I am more than Understanding and tell them no sweat.

I email again on March 7th, they say "it's been on the desk for a while, they'll get it out priority right away.

Tomorrow is April and I still don't have my part. I'm happy with everything in general, but for the price I paid, I feel like I should be given the corrected part. It's a critical part to the purchase, but it's a small stupid thing.

What should I do? Seek recourse through a chargeback? I hate to go that route.

**edit - not even sure I can do a chargeback this long after the original purchase? I've never had to do one so I don't know if there's a typical time limit for that stuff?**

I think you've been plenty patient and understanding. If you haven't already I would work through email as much as possible - or phone call with a follow up email - to document discussions in case it needs escalated. Without knowing the real value and how important this part is it's hard to determine how far I would actually take it (lawyers etc.).

I think its past the point of being nice. Call them out here. Sounds like you cant just run to the hardware store for this part, and you should not have to even if you could...even for a 25 cent fwkn washer!
If you wont call out the company can you at least pm me so i dont dick with them?

Problem is it's a small enough company that I AM dealing directly with the owner. It was a $600 purchase. Not huge but not small.

Good luck with problem. Sucks when you have to hound people to get what you ordered in the first place. I think by waiting 2.5 months you have given them enough time to fix the problem.

I believe that the principle of "word of mouth" is a 2 way street, don't be reluctant to name them. Two things, other forum members are warned and they may become aware of the negative feedback and respond.

Call a flake a flake. Support good vendors. I always give people the chance to do the right thing.

I would out their asses. You want another thread like this in a couple months?

Vendor was particularly helpful when I had a few install questions on the product after it arrived. That's the ONLY thing holding me back

I'm torn between what @RowdyRon amd @ColoradoTJ says.

Best bet would be to call them and set down a deadline with a payment cutoff at the end but let them know their ass is on the chopping block.

You're a much more patient man than I. After 4 weeks I would have been on the phone with them with a stern tone. Next call would have been with the owner or manager with me in dickhead mode lol.

All aside I hope you get it resolved soon. Maybe try to get some credit for your time and delay on their side.

    My message to the owner:

it's been almost three months since I messaged you with the issue of the messed up _____on my _____. I've been super patient and haven't given you a hard time at all. I've been a serious advocate for your company and the quality of your product. I need to get tracking on the replacement ____ by Friday or I'm going to have to take it to the next step. I don't want to bust balls. I just want a good product that I paid handsomely for....

Let's get this thing shipped out and keep a happy customer.

If I don't get tracking by Friday, I'm calling the card company about a charge back and the company will be called out on here publicly. I'll keep you all posted

A little of this and a little of that.
I think you've definitely done the right thing by giving them a deadline. I know how you feel though about just wanting the part they were supposed to ship you in the first place. Sorry for your troubles.....

Well, tomorrow is Friday. Thats the date I gave. I received a response from the owner to my message. His response read:

"I will ship this out...im getting tired of it traveling back and forth on my desk. Its really my fault....couldnt remember the order # or address.. Got it now tho"

I supplied him with both the order number and my name and address prior to that message. That response from him was Saturday. Its now Thursday with no part and no tracking. I'm done asking over and over for my stuff. No I will not message him asking for tracking. In my opinion after three months it should be his priority to supply it.

If I dont have tracking my tomorrow, I'm filing a charge back and I'll be supplying all of the response to the CC company. I'll also be outing the company here to make you all aware. Ive been NOTHING but patient.

You know what? FUCK IT. Its been almost 3 months. Something tells me I'm holding my hand on my ass for no reason. Here's the communication. Im not filing a chargeback until tomorrow, but the shitty service should be shown.
