What have you done to your 2nd gen Tundra today?

Got the Falken ATW3 275/60/20s today. Gotta tip the ol hat tondiscount tire ordering them at 12:30 and getting them by 3:30 the same day. Love the look. Definitely feel the extra weight of the AT bigger tires when accelerating. Looking forward to taking them off the road.

 

Did you buy it with the Gentex pigtail? How many wires are there. Just start playing around with the wires to a 12v source to figure out what is what. I used a ryboi power tool battery.

 

Yes, it came with the pigtail. The place I bought it from also included a useful guide on making sense out of the wires. It's not perfect, but it helps. Check out www.spacetechstl.com/mirrors. For the Gentex 453 and looking at the back of the plug, they say the center wire is usually the black ground, the left most wire is the constant 12v for the homelink, and the right most wire is the 12v switched for the mirror. Hope that helps.

Yeah, one of my favorite interior upgrades. I didn’t care much for the little storage bin on the 2nd gen panels, and I feel like these look more updated.

 

...And suddenly I've realized that it would probably be pretty tough to find SR5/Limited/Platinum Regular Cab interior door panels as I would suspect that most 3rd generation RCs were/are of the work truck trim level.

 

Where did you get the mirror and is there factory plug in the headliner?

 

I added a diff fluid change when I did mine a few weeks ago. Now shifting into 4HI on my 257k mi - 2007 model is quick and smooth. Something it was not beforehand.

 

Where did you get the Grill? Amazon has one for 2010-2013 or this it and you mod the supports?

 

Got the mirror off Ebay. Tried to test it with a 12v power brick, but didn't have much success. Didn't have my voltmeter, but need to troubleshoot a bit more today. I hope the mirror isn't defective. But yes, the plug does seem to be tucked under the front of the headliner beneath the center console. There are actually three plugs tucked there, but one is most likely for the backup camera, the other is for the lights in the console and I'm hoping the third center one is for the mirror. Here is a shot of my plugs under the console.





The last pic is the wiring diagram that came with my mirror. It shows the usual wire out from the mirror. You will note that this does not correspond to the black plug on the Tundra. The instructions say to splice the wires from the mirror to the proper wires on the vehicle. A bit of a pain, but not too bad.

 

Took my voltmeter out and measured the voltages out of the black center plug. The white is ground, the other two are constant 12v and switched 12v respectively, so pretty sure they are the power connections for the mirror. I was also able to confirm that the mirror works fine and the trouble I was having stemmed from the under powered test brick I was using. Hooked up to the center plug the mirror worked flawlessly.

Although the directions suggest to hook up the Homelink garage door circuit to constant 12v, I'm going to combine the Homelink power and the mirror power, so both will be attached to switched power. That way if someone breaks into your truck, they cant just open your garage door.

 

Yeah, took me quite a while to find these and probably have around $800-$1k total in them.

 

Whoa....but then you need 4, I only have the two doors.

It should be for any 07-13 and yes you need the 2010 and up supports. If you contact sparks Toyota they will get you all setup, but that is the exact one I ordered, just checked on Amazon.

 

Got my dash cams installed. It went faster than I expected. Was a pretty clean install. Only thing I couldn't do was hard wire them because I got the wrong add-a-fuse. I assumed the interior fuse box was populated with mini fuses like the engine bay. Wrong. Should have checked. They are the low profile mini fuses. I could have gone through the firewall and tapped into the engine bay fuse box but it was dark by then and I was hungry for dinner. I'll get that done tomorrow sometime. Then I'll have use of the parking mode. Now to pair my phone with it and learn how to use the app. Pretty happy with the Blackvue cams.

ETA: I ordered a mount form the dashcam store that is designed to allow the tundras with the roll down window to have a rear mounted camera. I did not pay close enough attention and didn't realize it was not configured for the doublecab sliding rear window. I made it work by adding a bend or two of my own. Desperation is the mother of invention.....

 

Recently purchased a clean 2008, has almost new tires. But I noticed driving it home and now the last couple weeks feel like tire were out of balance. Took it into local Yota dealer and sure enough! They balanced all 4 and she drives wonderfully now! Just trying to decide what to do with this silly chrome grill..!? Have another thread going about it..

 

I used an eraser wheel (auto body glue remover) on my semi peeling chrome grill. The heat caused by the friction of the wheel caused the rest of the Chrome to separate from the plastic. Then a quick spray job would do the trick. FYI.

 

That's a project I also want to tackle. Do you recall how many square feet of material you used?

 

**2/9/21 Update **

I got the 10 inch system removed tonight. We installed the resonator with the 8 inch 2010+ model and adapter to make it work on my 08 Tundra. The adapter came without any bolts or a gasket. My mechanic was a little concerned because after bolting it up it wasn't a clean fit with some gaps on the top and sides. He wanted to make sure exhaust wasn't leaking outside of the gaps. He had sprayed it down with some sealant, and we didn't hear anything leaking. Not sure if it will eventually leak or not in time.

After testing out the 10" without resonator for a few days, I realized even though it sounded deeper and throatier, the drone at around a consistent 45 and 60 mph became too loud when I was listening to music or podcasts. When I wrote my last update, I wasn't listening to anything on the stereo. Because of the drone, we left the resonator on the 8 inch system. The 8 is a little louder in terms of bass tone, but not terribly much more. I can hear the bass tones more easily on lower speeds accelerating compared to the 10. That is a plus.

I'm not going to ship the 8 inch back to get the 6 and pay shipping to/from again. I went from spending $821 to $1176 after factoring in to/from shipping for the 8 inch system including the labor at my mechanics. Just didn't make sense to pay another $180 for a total of $1426, wait another month for the fabrication process, and possibly not be happy with the sound of the 6 with resonator in cabin in case it's too tinny and not bass filled enough.

For my own knowledge I plan on talking to a local exhaust shop to learn more about other brands with deeper tones and no drone to a low amount of reasonable drone. For now I'm gonna roll with the 8 and resonator!

 

Installed JBA uca and Dobinsons IMS on the Driver's side.

Decided to replace LCAs too. Good thing because the adjustment cams were locked up and corroded pretty bad. So I cut the bolts/sleeves. Slow going even with carbide blades.

Doing the other side tomorrow.

 

Getting the truck ready for her new LCAs. Took the surface rust off with a wire wheel. Prime, then paint. Just trying to do what I can to prevent the new adjustment cams from looking like the old ones for as long as possible.

 

Well finally got the below installed. I’m happy with the stance. Hopefully my 285/75/18 falkens wild peaks fit without issues. Driver side cam bolts are seized up so that’ll have to be addressed sooner or later.

• Bilstein TRD pro front suspension with .5” shim on each side
• Wheeler’s bump stops
• Replaced both inner tie rods and the passenger outter tie rod

Also, how are those running boards working out for you? Kinda doing a survey of various running boards and the drop down is often discussed.
