make sure you put a spin on that storm so it stays north of me as it comes East. The only tractor I have for clearing snow is my snow shovel. :-(

About to do something I hope I don’t regret.
    Long story short.
I got this truck with 20” wheels and replaced the tires last summer since it was cheaper than finding a 17 or 18” wheel/tire setup. I would like to go with a smaller wheel but I have yet to find one that I like AND that doesn’t sit further into the wheel well than my current setup. I initially had 295/55R20 open countrys but they nearly rubbed so I went a bit smaller this time around with 275/60s. May go back to that 295/55 next time again though as I’ve changed a few things.
I want just a bit more poke from this wheel setup but haven’t found it in other wheels so I’m thinking of wheel spacers. Spider trax obviously but this would just be for the ‘look’....I feel like im becoming too vain and turning into a 3rd gen

How is it cheaper to keep replacing your tires every year than to just replace the wheels once? 20" wheels would drive me nuts man. What was wrong with the tires you just bought last summer? I would pick up some Toyota take off rims off Facebook. I haven't checked lately but I used to see full sets for $300.

No no no. I could run these tires for 3-5years at their wear rate. The issue with any Toyota takeoffs are their offset is garbage and would look silly on my truck.

I guess I'm confused. You said you bought new 20" tires last summer because it was cheaper than buying new wheels. I get that. But now you're replacing them again(~6 months later) because you want a different size? You would have been better off just replacing the wheels last year to get what you want. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

Sorry. The tires were bald when I bought the truck, thus buying just new tires was the cheaper option. Today the tires are still great with tons of tread left, I’m just bummed looking at the truck wishing I could have spent more and bought a smaller wheel/tire setup back then. My thought is to buy spacers till these tires run out to get the look I want and then just suck it up and try to find a smaller wheel/tire combo that gets the look I want. BUT as of today even if I replaced the setup I don’t see anything that gets that look without going full retard and having like a 17x9 -38mm offset which is just crazy to me

I would put that money you are going to spend on spacers aside and just save for new wheels. Also, others have said the offset for OEM wheels isn't actually bad. We have several people running bigger tires on OEM wheels without issue.

Yes without issue but these oversized fenders make the stance look bad. I keep comparing wheel/tire profiles on willtheyfit.com and everything Toyota I find pushes in about 2 inches

Feeling pretty shitty right now men. Found my first leak yesterday and upon further inspection today i am not sure what it is. Left side cam seal maybe? @empty_lord thought maybe Tried torquing all valve gaskets down and various bolts nearby But finding correct specs is confusing with fsm What do the experts suggest? Could this catastrophically fail and fry the engine? Valve cover bolts are 53 INCH lbs, if you don't have an IN-LB torque wrench just turn them until they're snug no hulk strength needed.

I have not seen all the factory offsets in one place but I think the tacoma tends to have wheels that set a bit more inside. The GX470 and the 17s found on the tundras are some of the better specd factory wheels. Some one correct me if I am wrong. The 4runner and the fj are kind of in between.

Been there done that through all the pages. I’ll snap a few shots of comparisons to show what I mean

here is the TRD pro and sema wheels. 17x7+4 with 285/70R17Screen Shot 2021-01-25 at 12.39.06 PM.jpg
almost 1.2 inches tuck from my current setup. And that goes for most toyota wheels that I've looked at.

This will not kill the engine. Just keep an eye on oil levels. Many of these trucks never have that leak fixed and still go 300k miles

Just get the spidertrax spacers. As you've noted OEM wheels have at most 4mm offset. to get the stance you want, you've basically got Method or FCS wheels that are expensive. Depending on the OEM wheels you want, they're anywhere from $50-$300. I got 4 spoke 4runner rims with duratracs in good shape for $150. Painted em black and I like they way they look for a cheap setup (I do have the speidertrax spacers though)

Man those Spacers seem sketchy. Not sure how they wouldn’t wobble around and mess up my High Dolla Alignment and Tire Balance. One member had some custom ones made after using those blue ones. Even the customs made the wobbles at high speed. Scary Larry.

Just go into early GranPa mode and do 285/75/r16s. You’ll be all plushed out like floating on a Tropical St. Barts Cloud. The quietness in the cab will bring you into Mojo Nirvana. The tire life will satisfy even the most Eco Karen of Karens.

As long as the spacers are vehicle correct and you have the torque right you shouldn’t have any problems. But I do agree that once you start changing geometry and messing with oem fit n finish you start losing Toyota OG mojo and that could be disastrous

See, that's the problem with the cam seals... They should be done at the 2nd TB swap, but many times, myself included, those seals aren't leaking, so they don't get changed. So, when they do start weeping, you have to go back in for surgery again...

@fighthedude sorry that you have to deal with this. The VVTi engines have to have the cams removed to install the seals. It's a good sized job.

Yeah. Mine weren’t leaking, but thought they were but it ended up being my Oil Pump O-ring as discovered during the TB job. I had the 2 Cam Seals and 1 Crank Seal on hand and replaced them anyways even though they weren’t leaking. Glad I did based on what you are saying.

I know parts are cheap for this but what you think labor would be for this? $1k?

VVti would be $2k parts and labor around here. Maybe more. They wanted $3000-4200 for my Timing Belt and Alternator/Radiator/Cam-Crank Seals/Rad Hoses/Fan Clutch at two various shops (non VVti).

Did it myself in 3 days work ($1500 in Aisin/Toy parts).

Installed the swing case toolbox; no name brand I got for about $130. I was able to leave the tie down installed and my handle for the lid tucked in behind the box.
Thanks for the pics earlier guys! I should have done this long ago...

Hydroplaned off the road running 35. Ass end started coming around, and I let off the gas. It started to straighten out, and then kicked again. Passengers rear tire dipped off the curb, and sucked me into the 3 foot bank.

Torrential downpour the last 2-3 days here. Constant heavy rain had everything plumb soaked through.

All systems appear fine, but won't know for sure until I get home.

Good ole boy in a lifted truck stopped, and pulled me out. I'll make a video later on when I can take clips from my dash cam. My cam was connecting to my phone during the actual incident so no video of me plowing through the ditch. Grass, mud, and a few crawfish went errywhurrr

    Crazy day.

Running into a few hiccups here and there but the truck is almost moving again. Rotors, calipers, and pads are on and the rear diff is filled. Next step is to make sure the parking brake cables will clear my tires and then I can finish hydraulics. These new parking brakes feel so much tighter at the pedal, the old cable system has definitely seen better days.

    Tundy (8).jpg

I bought one set of Timbren ABSTOF bumpstops for the front a few months back and have really liked them, so I added a second pair upfront. The stock ones came out no problemo with the help of WD40 and my big blue oil filter wrench. Look at how much beefier they are
