Just got my 21' sport with 38 gal tank. Fuel range stated 4 miles but no low fuel light or chimes. Filled up and put 31.2 gallons in. Is there no low fuel light? My 2015 would light up with 30 miles left then still put in 6-8 gallons with 26 gallon tank.

I thought I read here that the low fuel light comes on when you hit 0 miles to empty.

You are working your fuel pump hard and it may burn up prematurely from lack of fluid cooling it.

    None, yet.
You are all very brave souls. I break out in hives when my gas gauge goes below 3/4 of a tank. I was amazed that at 3/4 it takes 9 gallons of fuel.

After they buy a fuel pump or 2, just maybe it will sink in.

You do it right, fuel economy is always better when you keep it full.

Granted we drive tundras and we shouldn't even try to act TOO concerned about fuel economy haha

I fill up once per week, which usually means half a tank. Whats the point of waiting til filling up 30+ gallons every time? If you were towing and pushing it on distance to save time, Id understand.

You're thinking of 1/4 of a tank as where you shouldnt run below to save the fuel pump.

Wouldn't it be worse because you're hauling all that extra weight around?

nope. more air space in the tank means more fuel evaporation.

I am just reminding those who are running it low on purpose as they tinker around. Just keep messing around and one day soon they will be needing a new pump due to running hot.

Sure, but it’s something like 1 gallon a year for the average driver.

FWIW, I've always been told and it makes sense to me, you should not run your tank to empty because you are basically sucking all the sediment into the engine. As a rule I always fill up when at 1/4 tank. YMMV :)

That's what fuel filters are made for. :) Just joking. I know depending where you are and fill-up, there's sometimes water, debris, and a bunch of other crap coming out of those gas pumps.

First off there is a screen on the pump intake. Secondly, a filter up the line too, so no sediment. I always buy gas at newer stations because logic says less trash in newer storage tanks. Now filling before low, running low makes the pump run hot due to lack of liquid cooling effect provided by the presence of the gas. So, 1/3 fill up at a newer station and add 2 cans of Berrymans injector cleaner every 3rd oil change. You guys and gals will be pretty happy with your fuel systems health.

Absolutely, and one of the easiest ways is filling up at 1/4 tank, I was just sharing information. Like I said YMMV.....

I thought the fuel going into the line is always coming from the bottom of the tank, regardless of how full the tank is.

Might be, I know from running fish tanks the poop always stayed to the bottom until the tank gets low an sloshes around :)

I put 38.1 gallons in my truck yesterday. 85 miles after it read zero. Love the big tank.

Ok, I'll be honest. When I first ran across this thread I had no clue what folks were talking about.

Now that I've filled up the tank a couple of times, I understand! The dang fuel gauge is just odd to me. The first time, I thought I was on empty and put in 26 gallons, so I thought I had a 26 gallon tank. The second time, I went a bit further and put in 32 gallons...so I had to rethink my tank's volume...

Definitely different than filling up my old Silverado. I think that one was around 23 or 24 gallons, and you knew when it was time to fill up.

The fun things we learn about new vehicles...
