I measured 48 3/8" between the boxes at about midway into the bed. The boxes run pretty straight from the rear of the bed out to the tailgate, except about a foot or so from the tailgate where they taper toward the bedsides.

Love my storage boxes! Someone said they leak, no leaks here. $700? No, definately not worth that. The quality is fair but security is almost nonexistent.

They are not watertight, and the dealer told me they are not supposed to be. Makes no sense. Plus, the insulated cooler side is crap. Waiting to see what corporate says about them, but I’ll likely remove them.

Update 1/26. Factory says they are not intended to be weatherproof. Still have a hard time believing a mfg would design exterior storage without weatherproofing, but that’s their story. They told me dealer is prepared to show me how another truck on their lot will do the same thing. I’m going to wait for next rain, then show them it’s not just minor leak. I see the suggestions about adding sealant and add’l weatherstripping, and may do that. But bugs me to have to pull it all apart.

Mine have a weatherstrip and do not leak, rain, snow, garden hose baths. Pressure wash yes they will likely leak.

Just so happens that I also reside in Oklahoma and my boxes don't leak or haven't yet. Maybe I just got lucky with the manufacturing. Idk! Just stating that owners may or may not need to fix the boxes. Personally, I am hoping my cam housing sealant was applied correctly the first time!

My 2021 had them but I removed and sold. I didn't have them on long and didn't use them but the few times they were opened they were dry. I never looked but do the mechanisms adjust? I do know mine were tight as hell to close. . Maybe that made a difference?

I was hot and heavy for then when it was first announced, after laying hands on them not so much now. I'm probably going to do those swing out ones.

I bought mine from @Nomoredomestics (great seller btw)

And finally had time to install them, overall I really like them, the passenger side is filled now with recovery gear and my tools, I can reach into each boxes when standing outside of the truck, I also swap out the tonneau cover to roll up ones, I had tri-fold and I just like the roll up as its more useful.

The install was straight forward, but you may want a second hand to line up those spacers for the deck rail, also the factory bed liner is a PAIN to remove to remove the front tie down hooks, took me about an hour to get them in.

Looks good @Downytide. I'm so stoked to finally have some storage in my CM.

Tip for the rail spacers: I took a scrap piece of the Gorilla weatherproof tape and used a pinch of the gew on it on the back side of the spacer. But anything tacky would work. I just lined them up and stuck them in place. Easy peasy.

That's a good tip, if I need to re-install them I will do that.

my tie down anchors bolts just wouldn't reach for some reason, not sure why, luckily my Chavornia billet tie downs showed up and they have extended bolts.

They have a weather seal around the doors. Mine have been dry as a bone even in some pretty heavy rain.

Those billet tie downs look slick.

The box hardware is different and longer at all locations. The dealership parts department was no help. They can see the box kit accessory part number, but no hardware kit. Here's the differences...

I bought mine from @IBeam. Great seller as well. Here's how my install went.

Purchased stainless steel hardware for my cargo and tonneau rails from Lowe's. The box hardware is longer than the existing hardware and should come with the boxes. In my case, I had to find replacements for the rail screws. As for the tonneau, I had to adapt it to the new cargo rail depth.
    20210119_203933.jpg

    20210119_192557.jpg

Purchased Bass Pro marine 27" white LED strip lighting for bed & boxes ($15 each, but used my rewards and gift card...so free :D).
    Here's the link:
    https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-flexible-led-lighting-strip
    20210118_141220.jpg

Removed all 4 factory tie down loops and both OEM LED bed lights (retained wiring to use with LED strip lights).
Removed both side cargo rails and removed both plastic temp-hold pins from each rail.
Prepped and painted the exposed mounting areas in the bed.
    20210113_190358.jpg

    20210118_151520.jpg

IBeam gave me these D rings since he had 2 extra. Here's the link:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GZQRR29/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_1andGbQ2GPZQN
Step drilled the tie down D ring mounting tabs to 1/2".
Deburred, prepped, and painted them. (Two alternatives that don't need to be modified are Toyota PN: PT278-35054 for Tacoma and Mopar PN: 05104500AA for 2005 Sprinter Wagon. There's threads on this here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/diy-bed-tie-down-ring-addition.774/
    and here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/installed-d-rings-in-the-bed-pics.28533/page-16.)
Removed both forward T55 bed SEMS bolts. Pressed the washers from them. (I used a 1-1/16" 12pt socket, a rubber mallet, and a 2x4. Use a 1-1/8" if your socket is 6pt.)
Installed the bed bolts, D rings, and washers.
    Torqued to 62 ft/lbs.
    20210118_165713.jpg

    20210118_182501.jpg

Plugged unused holes in bed and installed grommets for wiring.
    20210121_203201.jpg

    20210121_203715.jpg

Applied black RTV sealant to seams on boxes. (Factory seam sealer had gaps on bottom and sides and wasn't applied to top seam. Explanation here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/a-l...bed-storage-boxes-might-leak-and-a-fix.81784/
Who knows, maybe I would've never had an issue with my boxes. I definitely won't now. I have a soft tonneau anyway. But my primary reason of sealing the boxes was for the forums to show people a fix.)

    20210120_230525.jpg

    20210120_230615.jpg

Installed LED strip lighting to forward rail, both side rails, and under top lip in both boxes.
Routed wiring for front rail light under bed cap at forward end and down to existing bed cargo light harness at the frame.
    Removed both tail lights.
Routed wiring for side rail lights under bed cap at rear end and into tail light cavities. Routed wiring for box lights through holes in bed sides behind boxes and into tail light cavities.
Routed existing cargo light harness into tail light cavities and made connections to side rail and box light wires.
    Reinstalled tail lights.
Installed driver and passenger side boxes, rails, and rear tie down loops.
Held spacers in place with Gorilla waterproof tape gew to facilitate alignment and install.
Loosely installed all hardware until I got everything started.
Torqued all ten rail screws (M6-1.00mm x 25mm SS hex pan head screws with M6 SS washers) to 66.5 in/lbs.
Torqued all four rear and both front lower tie down bolts to 13 ft/lbs.
Re-attached all six tonneau rail mount brackets, using four 5/16" SS washers as spacers and longer M6-1.00mm x 16mm SS hex cap screw at each bracket (originals were only 12mm long).
Replaced all rusted tonneau hex cap screws with stainless steel screws.

    20210122_015034.jpg

    20210122_015146.jpg

Trimmed the bed mat to fit. I used a 3-1/2" hole saw for the D ring openings. Measure twice, cut once.

I traded air inflators with my wife. Hers (older version) fit perfectly. Mine now. :D
    20210123_180855.jpg

Personally, I think the boxes are great and I'm glad Toyota finally came up with something. I don't think they take away from the bed space like they do on the Tacomas. I can't remember a time that I was able to set something on the wheel wells or the tiny area directly in front of them.

I might order the Chavornia billet tie downs that @Downytide has. I'm really diggin those.

I hope this writeup helps. The boxes are actually pretty easy to install. I just did a few extra things.

The spacers are steel with a corrosion resistant coating (i.e. black oxide). Avoid aluminum as it may cause galvanic corrosion.
The hardware should come with the Trail Edition Storage Boxes if you buy the kit new. The hardware was not offered separately from Toyota at the time. If you bought the boxes used either without or misplaced the hardware, there are companies online that you can order custom spacers from. Spacer dimensions are provided in the write-up. Good luck.

I generally think the trail edition is a lame attempt by toyota to extend their outdated models a few years, and I still think that.

Your customization and extra work is how it SHOULD be. If it came like this, I'd say its a value adding package rather than a distraction from a 15 year old truck. GOOD JOB!

Hey @TSands83 how has the trail edition been for you? I see a couple of those trims for sale near me and was thinking of going for it... however... I'm not sure those storage bins are going to be good for us b/c we're always packing larger coolers and other gear... other than that and a few cosmetic things on the Trail edition - it seems like I should probably go for the Off-road or Sport Trims that are offered at basically the same price...

What were some reasons you opted for Trail Edition? - other than 'exclusivity' in long term.... just curious.

    Thanks! Appreciate your thoughts.

The selling points for me on the trail edition were the wheels and getting rid of most of the chrome on the exterior of the truck. It comes with dark gray wheels and color matched grille surround, hood bulge, and rear bumper. Also comes with the spray-in bed liner and blacked-out badging. Those changes would be a couple grand in aftermarket parts, if not more. I sold the tool boxes shortly after getting my truck and used the money for other mods.

    @Surfxplore99 I have a 2015 Attitude Black Tundra Platinum CM 4x4.
Mods: Black TRD Pro headlights, iHacker LED Plug N Play harness, black LED fog lights, TRD Pro grille, TRD skid plate, TRD front and rear sway bars, TRD Pro Fox shocks, TRD intake, TRD dual exhaust, Lexus/Toyota aluminum oil filter cap, Stahlbus oil drain valve, black Fuel Offroad Pump 20x9+20 wheels, color matched mirror caps and door handles, stubby antenna, black tube steps, driver side assist handle, Rago dash plate with ICS backing plate, SR black interior door handles, SR black dash center panel, Tacoma/4Runner left and SR right black steering wheel switches, black steering wheel emblem, black TRD shift knob, AJT Designs shifter and cup holder bezels and HVAC control knobs, Husky floor mats, Trail Edition bed storage boxes, bed LED strip lighting, bed mat, Charvonia Design Billet Tie-down Anchors, 38 gallon fuel tank, RCI fuel tank skid plate, AVS window deflectors/visors, Recon taillights, Recon smoked 3rd brake light, GTR Lighting interior and exterior bulbs, Morimoto mirror puddle lamps, center console wireless charging tray, RAM Mounts Quick Grip wireless charger, Alpine iLX-F509/DVE-5300/KCX-630HD/DVR-C320R, Maestro RR, Garmin Drivesmart 65 & Traffic, Llumar FormulaOne Stratos Nano-Ceramic Window Tint.

Dual zone auto climate control, heated/ventilated seats, auto dimming mirrors, power folding mirrors, blindspot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and parksense are reasons I went with a Platinum.

Pretty exclusive the way I have it...and love it.

I use my boxes all the time. The left one doubles as a cooler. The right one has my straps, jumper cables, and air inflater in it. The CrewMax lacks storage, so the boxes help. I might look into under seat storage one day.

I have the trail but personally I wouldn't seek out a trail edition. It's just what my dealer had at the time in my price range that ticked my boxes. Over two years later and I still like the storage bins. I use one for tie-downs, fold away shovel and a bunch of other stuff. The cooler I've only used once for a road trip and it kept the drinks and sandwich stuff cold for a long time.

Yes, they are. I believe someone posted the part numbers on this site somewhere. Just check with your dealer parts department. Sometimes they appear listed for sale here as well. Sorry, I don't have time to assist you further right now. Hope this helps!

I'll search out the part numbers, I tend to steer clear of my dealers parts department.
