I’ll agree to some point. Not everyone has the latest iPhone, and not everyone needs instant TPMS. If our system was smart and gave actual pressures like the newer models... ehh maybe but the cost to benefit ratio is just not there for me in my situation. Especially when 90% of the time it’s the spare.

That’s because most everyone who owns an almost 20 year old truck is likely to have some spare sandpaper and PB lying around. Not many have their own tire machine and spare sensors.

Regardless of whether I like it or not, the toaster is going to get digitized, the price will inflate, and the analog one that has worked for over a century will become obsolete. People will then consider them “vintage” and the old stuff that used to be cheap and work just fine will become expensive and hard to find. All in the name of progress I suppose.

“Progress” more like 10 steps backwards in many cases. And this is coming from a 25 year old

What’s the name of the little metal clip that goes on plastic taillight assembly and bolt goes into?

I was missing one on the passenger assembly. Now it’s missing two!

    Dealer claims not sold separately.

Im 35 and sick of seeing it. It blows my mind that this is the marketing model for vehicles now.

Create a feature that is not really needed and shove it down our throats on how bad we need it because... safety. Throw that specific feature into a package that is only offered on the “Platinum model” and charge 10k extra for it. Perceived overall value goes up because “If the platinum is 60k, why buy the work truck model at 45k? It has nothing on it.”

Couple all this with being able to finance for 84 months or something ridiculous and you have the out of control vehicle climate that we’re currently sitting in. The one where you have a base model Tahoe sitting at 50k and the Platinum Escalade at over 100k. They are the exact same vehicle and there is absolutely no way that they have over 50k of different “luxury” features into it.

My OEM wheel underneath seemed to hold best with the face of it against the bed. The old 265/70 R17 fits underneath fairly well. Full size spare.

Figured I'll try them out. A week or so of driving should be long enough to see any difference in performance or driveability.

Doubtful. But do let us know. Is there a country of origin written in them?

I doubt it also. They do feel hefty, oem units feel lighter. Isn't everything made in china?

Oem are not Chinese. Not sure on MSD. They do likely have a beefier coil inside. But will it translate to performance? Likely not. Toyota’s not known for weak spark like ford eco boosts that do actually gain a little from beefier coils

mine were stamped china and I noticed no performance difference, even with the cracked OEM coils.

@MrDirtjumper I'll raise a beer to all that. I have felt that way for a long time. I get sick when I see the 3rd gen guys ask things like "should I trade my 2018 for a 2021? It has more bells and whistles".

Part of why I plan to keep my truck forever is it doesn't have much of that shit on it. ABS and airbags are where the tech stops. No need for any lights on my side mirrors, no need to put a sensor on my bumper for cruise control, no need to have fawking wifi in my truck. Its a truck, nothing more or less.

There's nothing wrong with that. After driving my wifes Element I can see adding stereo controls to the steering wheel being worthwhile. I agree with improving lighting too, thats all good.

I just can't stand how vehicles are adding lights and alerts and crap that makes up for bad driving. How long before they put methane sensors in each seat and your car snitches on who farted?

Buy a brand new truck and the main thing you're paying for is the depreciation expense.

Doug DeMuro raises a good point regarding certain automotive technologies in his reviews. Display screens, TVs, fancy stereos etc. will look funky in 10-20 years when compared to the industry standards then. Built-in navigation systems become outdated and you're relying on years old map packs. As a vehicle ages, a lot of today's cutting-edge technology will be outdated and harder to repair.

I'm very happy with the limited tech my truck has (ABS, airbags, heated seats, thermometer/compass, cassette player). Any other tech I need I can find the solution that works specific to me at that point in time.

That 600hp Toyota motor is also an acceptable feature to add. I say go for it!

That’s only part of the cost. You’d still need to have engine management and what not to actually make it run. Total cost would be around 15k I’m guessing to have that fully setup and running. And being a drag engine, it won’t last long before needing rebuilt

I'm familiar with all the expenses and that's why I stopped racing and driving really fast. It's addictive. I can't afford it so I drive a V8 Toyota. Added benefit, police haven't pulled me over since I started driving pickups

Installed a AC today for a friend(made more money in a day than I do in almost a month!)
Didn’t take many pics, the crane always stresses me out, and then some lady comes down the alley and just parks in front of my truck, then comes up and asks “are you Mo Money”(the alias I give)
I’m like shit how does the inspector know my name?
She’s like oh I’m Norma, if you don’t mind we’re gonna take some pics.” (She was the owner; Normas Crane Service)
Most of the install went good but pulling new Tstat wire was a pain and apparently I haven’t wired a TStat in a while, I got the terminals all messed up! But when I went to pull t stat wire I couldn’t find my electrical tape, couldn’t find any at home, so I went into a secret stash.......this roll is from her hoarder grandpa.......

That motor would go into the tundra. The taco is getting the 3.4 since I’m already 6k into that engine.
