No worries. Well worth the time and effort. Its in the instructions but a torque wrench will be needed as well to tighten everything to spec.

It really wasn’t too challenging. Didn’t even have to jack the truck up.
The top hanger bolts on the frame where a bit of a PITA on 5 year old truck. Some liquid wrench and a breaker bar did the trick. Couldn’t use my impact wrench on that one because it was too tight of an angle. Other than that, straight forward and took less than an hour from start to clean up. Make sure you have some cardboard on the ground so you don’t scratch up the finish on the bar.

Installed mine this weekend. It was an easy install. You want the truck on the ground (i.e., suspension loaded) when you do the installation. There is more than enough space to move around under the truck. The video above is good to watch and the instructions included with the sway bar are clear and easy to follow. You do need a torque wrench...the 22mm upper end-link to frame bolts are torqued to 84 ft-lbs and the lower 19mm end-link bolts and the 19mm bushing u-bolt bracket bolts get torqued to 48 ft-lbs. (going from memory....so confirm the specs).

Since my truck only had 50 miles on it (not exposure to the elements yet), I was able to easily remove the forward 19mm frame hitch bolts with a 18” long 1/2” breaker bar....no impact gun needed.

Bought my 2021 2 weeks ago and just installed both front and rear bars. Absolutely amazing upgrade. You will notice a difference immediately and every time you turn.

Installation was pretty much as easy as it can get and it comes with instructions. Torque wrench required. Use antiseize on contact points.

It's still a noticeable improvement, but not as dramatic as the rear.

I think the front is worth getting for sure. It compliments the rear well, though I would say you feel it more when you take tighter or faster turns. If you can only get one for whatever reason, I would do rear.

I think it is but it's an upgrade to the existing bar. For me adding the rear bar was a 75% improvement, the front bar is a 25% improvement to handling. A noticeable upgrade.

Does the Tundra come with a front sway bar without a rear sway bar? Are folks just adding the rear and using the original OEM front sway bar? I assume the TRD sway bars are stiffer front and rear? Trying to follow how folks are doing the upgrades. The handling on curves could be improved and if there isn't a front sway bar from the factory I assume that is where to start? If it comes with a front sway bar then I think I'll added the rear TRD based on the improvements folks are seeing. I have a 2020 SR5. Thanks.

All Tundras come from the factory with a standard sway bar on the front of the vehicle. Most are adding a rear sway bar and that's it, a few are swapping out the front for either a Sequoia (stiffer) sway bar or a TRD sway bar (stiffer yet) in addition to the rear sway bar. Hellwig makes an adjustable bar for the rear, I'm not sure if they make one for the front.

Recommend adding the rear sway bar first before considering upgrading/adding the front. The quality of the shocks makes a difference to the the experience as well.

Ok, thanks for the responses folks. That makes sense. On my old track car (Nissan 350Z) I had installed some aftermarket Hotchkis adjustable front and rear sway bars. This helped dial out the factory tendency to understeer and balance the handling out. Granted this is a truck. (It's my first truck too!) I'm really happy with it but there is something about how it handles even gentle sweeping curves that I'd like to improve. I'll start with the rear sway bar and see how it feels. I'm not expecting sport car results. Thanks again.

You can probably find an OEM (nonTRD) Front Sway fairly cheap if your truck doesn't have one.

Hellwig makes 2 sway bars for the rear, one for stock height and another that is adjustable for lifts. The difference in the Hellwig and TRD are very noticeable and I prefer the Hellwig. Unfortunately they do not offer a front for the later models only the Gen 1

How easy is the install for the TRD rear sway bar for the average DIYer? Considering just having the dealer do it when I bring it in for my 1 year service, any ideas what I should expect to pay for the dealer install including the parts?
I’m sure I can do it myself but I need to weigh my time + pissing off the wife tinkering with the truck vs paying the dealer.

Watch the video. Unless you have a bad back and have a hard time sliding under the truck, it’s one of the easiest mods you can do. Especially if your truck is newer with limited rust or grime on the bolts.
No promises but honestly it should take you less time to do it yourself than it would to drive to the dealership. Plus you’ll have the pride of the accomplishment = man card.

post 59 has the video. YouTube has a few others that are good too.

Its very easy to install the rear TRD sway bar if you have ever done any work on a car before. I would recommend the rear sway bar if you arent a hardcore offroader.

I just so happen to have a stock front sway bar since i just swapped out to the TRD one, looking to get rid of it. I would let it go very cheap.

Thanks for the input, now the question, where to buy it?
The closest online dealer parts store to me is out of Boston and they wanted $100 in shipping to ship it across the state. My dealer can get it but they charge retail parts prices $259 I think , no online discounts and I still have to go pick it up. Not a huge deal, I might wait till warmer weather to do it myself anyway

Can get it on Amazon if I am not mistaken. Price fluctuates a bit between dealers even or private parties but take into account how much they want for shipping when looking at price. I just went to the dealer a few miles from my house. Wasnt worth my time to wait for it to ship from somewhere just to save 20 bucks.

I’ve been watching it on sparks parts. It’s 209 minus 5% forum discount and about 25 in shipping. Seems to be about the best deal around now.

I ordered mine from McGeorge Toyota online parts in VA. The shipping is free for over $75 total. These guys are right there on pricing with Sparks and sometimes cheaper. Also, their parts service is second to none IMO:

I flip between McGeorge and Sparks when buying OE parts for my four Toyota’s. I only hit up my local dealership parts department for oil filters. I purchased the TRD rear sway bar for my Tundra from Sparks....I seem to recall it being $209 and it slipped my mind to use the discount....stupid me.

Exact same for me. Only problem for me with Sparks is I have to communicate via text messages which is a PITA, but maybe that's COVID related and won't last..

Thanks but for me Sparks and McGeorge shipping costs put me pretty much back at my dealers full retail cost.

I’ll keep an eye out the next few months and see if any of them drop and pull the trigger for a spring time project.
