I've been checking the iDatalink Maestro site every now and again and finally it says that the 2020 and 2021 Tundras (along with other Entune 3.0 vehicles) are now compatible with the DSR1.

Has anyone tried with the new firmware? I'll probably pick one up in January if it works out. I really would like more bass and louder sound

James @ 12volts was already delivering the 1.8 firmware this year as I'm pretty sure he works with them closely. Not sure why it took until December to get 2020 approved other than entune 3.0 was a significant change from previous Tundra models. I will say the DSR1 with perfect tune app is pretty impressive for its compact size.

If you compare the 2019 firmware with the 2020 2021 firmware they are identical.

Interesting. I knew James sold it and listed it as compatible, but I wasn't sure if it was a hack that he did or if it was official firmware or what.

Anyways I was just a little uncomfortable with having only one person having the right firmware. I was going to buy it from him anyways but then I ended up getting distracted and started tackling some other projects

Yep, No hack from James all can/BUS communications work as needed. The only loss is some phone apps will not voice over the system (maps, waze, etc.), but all Toyota items function as expected.

If you are keeping factory radio, a digital signal processor is necessary and for all other applications is recommended for tuning a system properly. Here is a nice little youtube that goes into more detail.

Thanks for this. Haven't messed with car audio in a long time (back in early 2000s). Vehicles infotainment system sure has came a long way.
So from my understand, after watching this video, if you replace the amp, you can't control the sound (volume level, bluetooth, GPS sounds, etc.) cause the OEM amp is what controls the output from the signal of the factory head unit. In order to do so, either 1) change out the factory head unit and have it ran to your new setup, or 2) get a DSR1 to connect to new amp which will run to all the speakers with current factory unit (factory h/u > DSR1 > AMP > speakers).
So here's my other question, can you run current factory system and just upgrade the subs with a new amp? I assume subs will not be in tune with the radio but would need the gain knob to control the output.

Is this for all years or just the 20/21s?

Factory HU doesn’t have a ton of power. That’s the main reason I’m considering this upgrade

It’s now for all years. It took a while for 20/21 firmware to come out though

I had been using the 2019 firmware from the website on my 2020 since the Spring of 2020 - besides some voice prompt issues, which I didn't use anyway, it worked fine.

I know the maestro is for all years. I meant does the audio not work for Waze and such on just the 20/21 or are all of them like that.

    Thank you

Yes the audio does not work on waze and maps on Android Auto. Music works great.

Awesome James, pretty sure you are aware of the most of the items as I have emailed you some of my findings. So here is a summary of those I have found, but still love the design, simplicity of installation and sound quality.

    1) AMP does not shut off when the HU sound is turned off. (AMP does turn off when vehicle is shut down)
    2) Every once in awhile on the 2020+ JBL the HU will not start the AMP for music. (Resolved by holding the on/off button on the HU down until unit reset)
    3) Some native smartphone apps do not present voice (e.g. Waze, Google or Apple maps). The sound will lower waiting for the voice prompts, but nothing comes, just a pause in the sound. (Toyota navigation, phone and text to speech still operate fine). Tested various speaker setups assuming it should work.

I find these just minor inconveniences against the quality of sound system designed. Working with 2 different suppliers, not including the smartphone applications has to be a challenge I don't envy. But your support of this forum and customer service are something to be replicated by other businesses and we really appreciate it!
