Ok so I have been talking to idata about some issues guys are having with the dsr1 and the 2020 and 2021 . We have installed 100s ourselves and can not seem to have the same issues some others are having so I need your help if you have one in these year model trucks . We need as much info as you can give us. If i did not program the dsr1 for you please do not respond as I only want to know about guys that I programmed it for as I know it has the correct software if i programmed it. Not that i do not care about you others but I need to find a solution that know works with what i have put on it. Idata has my login information so they can see exactly what i have been doing to them and I program them all the same .
    Please tell us
1 what year your truck is.
2 If its key start or push to start . I think most issues are with push to start trucks .But i want to know for sure
3 What all you have in your truck as far as amplifiers and what speakers you hooked up . For example if you do not have the dash and center hooked up please let us know. Most shouldnt have these speakers hooked up.
4 what phone make and model you are using
5 what issues you are having and when it is happening are you on Bluetooth , android auto, car play and if this is done wirelessly or through a cable. Also what cable you are using . Is it the cable that came with the phone or an aftermarket cable.

Idata will be looking at this thread so please do not post if you do not have any issues.

Hey James, appreciate the efforts here.

    Truck: 2020 trd pro
    HU: stock Jbl
Dsr1 w/ t03 harness (you programmed for me)
    Kenwood x802-5 amp
    Kenwood x2c in dash
    Focal is 690 front
    Focal ic 165 rear
    Jbl 10s w/box from you
    Center speaker has been disconnected
Phone: samsung s10 connected via blutooth

    Issues:

1: left channel drops out randomly (front left door and dash). This happens on any source including radio, sirius, etc.

2: Amp doesnt always power on. Dsr1 is lit up, but amp is off. I can reboot the radio (hold power button in) which will usually resolve it.

Regarding issue 1, i was thinking loose wire on amp output or a short, but have confirmed this is not the case. I am now suspecting the t03 harness, as the package it arrived in was a bit squished, and one of the plugs was pretty well squished as well. When I installed it, it was a bit of a pain to get connected but I was able to do so. Didnt think much of it at the time, but now I am wondering if it could be a possibility?

Regarding issue 2, reboot of radio sorts this 90% of the time on the first reboot.

Hope this helps and is what you are looking for!

    Eta issue 3:

The audio for the navigation is low, and only dims the front channels.

Truck: 2020 TRD Pro with Push Button start
    HU: Stock JBL
DSR1 w/ T03 harness (you programmed for me)
Kenwood Excelon XR901 5 Channel AMP
    Hertz DX100 Dash
    Hertz K170 Front Door
    Hertz K170 Rear Door
    Kenwood KFC XW1041 10's w/box from you
    Center speaker connected
Phone: LG G8 Bluetooth and Anker USB-C cable connected for Android Auto

The issues I'm having is with Android Auto. You cannot hear the turn by turn voices on google maps or waze. When you have music playing the music will dim and go back. But that all you hear. Then Android Auto will crash. And this is when you use the USB-C cable. Now sometimes when you first crank the truck there is no sound coming from the radio and you have to do a hard reset on the radio (by holding the power button down until the radio turns off).

    HU: Stock JBL
    DSR1 w/ T03 harness (you programmed)
    JBL 5505 Stadium 5 AMP
    Hertz K165 Front doors
    Hertz K165 Back doors
JBL 1200 12" Sub and enclosure
    Infinity Reference dash sides
    No center speaker
Phone: iPhone 7, generally always USB connected

    1) AMP does not shut off when the HU sound is turned off. (AMP does turn off when vehicle is shut down)
    2) Every once in awhile on the 2020+ JBL HU will not start the AMP for music. (Resolved by holding the on/off button on the HU down until unit reset) [A phone call will trigger it on if not turned on at startup, haven't tested Toyota NAV in same scenario]
    3) Some native smartphone apps do not present voice (e.g. Waze, Google or Apple maps). The sound will lower waiting for the voice prompts, but nothing comes, just a pause in the sound. (Toyota navigation, phone and text to speech still operate fine). Tested various speaker setups assuming it should work with no luck.

Hey James, Thanks for the help.

Truck: 2020 Limited - with push button start
HU: stock with JBL upgrade option
Dsr1 w/ t03 harness (you programmed for me)
    Amp: JBL DSP4086
    JRT 10" sub/box
Phone: Apple IPhone 11 connected via Bluetooth

    Issues:

1: left and right dash channel seems to be wired together as balance from HU does not work correctly. The volume just drops when pushed all left or all right.

2: Amp doesn't always send a music signal to the speakers, it's on just no sound. Dsr1 is lit up, shutting the truck off and restarting the truck is the only way to resolve it.

Regarding issue 2, this has happened twice this week and I have only had this installed for a week.

3: The audio for the navigation is nonexistent but does dim the overall volume when it should be speaking.

4: When volume is all the way down there is a hiss that is auditable.

I hope this helps to sort out the hardware/software issues. Please let me know, when, if an update comes out to correct. Thank you!!

    Working on it!
James, it's funny I saw this post this morning as I was going to hit you up to see if there was an update to fix my issues.

Before I get started...the system still kicks ass.
    1. 2020 TRD Pro
    2. Push button Start
    3. I kept the JBL head and you installed JL package with Hertz front doors (hertz mpk coaxs and dt24.3 tweeters), rear (jl c1 650), rd900/5 amp, DSR1, and 2 jl 10x1 subs in your box. I do not believe the center speaker is connected.
    4. IPhone 10
    5. I have two that I know about:
      1. Sometimes when starting the truck, the audio does not work. Restarting the truck or rebooting the radio fixes the problem. It is totally random. Only a couple of times have I had to reboot two times to get audio.
      2. I occasionally run CarPlay cabled but notice the map instructions are not able to be heard during the audio directions. The phone hands-free works. I've tried both Apple and aftermarket cables.
Thanks for digging deeper on this one for us!

With respect to #2, just hold the volume knob in until the HU restarts and sound should come on. No need to stop and turn the truck off. With #4, this is a known issue with the stock HU BT module. I originally had a system from James with the stock HU and had hiss and once I changed out the HU the hiss was gone.

Thank you, I wish it would, I have tried that method and it doesn’t do anything. The only way I have found to correct the issue is to just turn the truck off and restart it.

    1) 2021 Platinum
    2) Push to start
    3) Your “07-21 Tundra CM/DC Infinity Hertz Complete Package” with dual subwoofers. Dash and center not hooked up. DSR1 programmed by you. Factory JBL headunit.
    4) iPhone 12 Pro Max.
    5) Wired / CarPlay, using both OEM phone cable and the cable that came with my truck.

When I first completed install and went to try it, no sound at all would come through. Another member got me in touch with iDatalink support who told me the firmware needed to be updated. I did this, and it solved the issue. (By the way, it sucks that the firmware update is not available on Mac. Luckily I had an old PC still laying around to use. Would have been an issue if I didn’t still have it.)

    Since then:

Siri responses barely audible. (Press the talk button, give a command, or ask it to read texts, you can barely hear it.)
Additionally, any time the truck is turned off and back on, the subwoofer has no output. I go into the PerfectTune app, and get this message:

    C58CBBF8-E8BA-4C50-8F91-BF3A9B009207.jpg

Reconnect to the DSR1, and the subs are turned all the way down:

    C18B80D3-50CE-45BC-9906-52A7EEDBE50C.jpg

I move the slider up, and everything works fine and sounds great. Have to re-do this process again every time I start the truck. It seems to retain all other settings. Only the subs are an issue.

The key to perfect tune is you need to load the changes back to the DSR or they will be lost. Basic steps are to create a config or download existing. Make changes, and then apply and upload the new config. Took me a couple of tries before I figured this out. There is no good documentation on the app, so I did a lot of trial and error early on.

The trigger for the amp to turn on is my only gripe...triple checked the trigger wire... restart always solves it

got a voicemail from IDATA today . They said reprogram your dsr1 with version 1.9 . Apparently the engineers just released this after me making this thread and you guys posting this. Guys if you bought it from me and cant do this you can ship it back to me and I will reprogram it for you and ship it back . Just know we have a new shop address as we moved last week a half mile down the road from the old shop into a much bigger facility . So email me if you need the address tech12volt@gmail.com

Also please post if it helps or not after you do this. I will downloading several with it tomorrow

That’s what they told me when I got mine. It fixed the no audio at all issue. (Still need a Mac version of the update though.)
As for it not saving my presets, I somehow got it to work yesterday, but I’m still not positive at all how I managed to do it. The app isn’t very intuitive as far as saving a preset.
Some step by step instructions would be nice, as none are included with the unit. I ultimately just kept clicking different things until it worked. It still didn’t save my “timing” settings though. It’s weird as it would save some but not all settings each time I tried. First time it saved everything but sub level. Then it would save sub level but nothing else. Finally got it all saved except the timing part. I may just have to keep trying. There’s a good chance I’m just doing it all wrong.

Siri is still at low volume though. Nothing I’ve done has changed that.

All that said, the system sounds amazing. Way better than what I had in my 2017 Tundra or anything else. Even with my settings messed up it sounded way better than the factory JBL system. I’d highly recommend this system to anyone, just need to figure out this DSR1 stuff.

If you could post some screenshots of what every selection in the app should look like (ie what to choose in each menu) it would be helpful.

It only saves Net New changes if you don't download the preset to apply changes. So if you applied change to a preset, uploaded, you need to download again to apply additional changes. Took some trial and error to figure out this behavior.

Okay after flashing the DSR1 with the new software and choosing to have notifications come from the front speakers. I can confirm the problems with android auto have bee resolved (Waze & Google announcements) the only problem is it kills any other audio coming out of the front speakers. You can hear the audio from the rear but not the front. Also there is a high pitch hum.

Are you stating that the front speakers do not come back online without a reboot of the HU?

If I unplug the usb cable, which cuts off android auto the front speakers will play while using Bluetooth connection or just the radio. If I leave android auto working with the USB cable plugged in and Hard reset the HU the front speakers work again until maps or waze make announcement.

What I want to try next when I get a chance is, re flash the dsr1 but this time, change the settings to not have the announcements come out of any speaker. and see what happens.

I'll be watching. What you are doing was the default behavior on the previous firmware. Right now I'll stick with the the known issues. Appreciate you keeping us posted!

Yeah tried directing the audio to just the center because its not in use. And no announcements. I guess the 1.9 Firmware is close. But has bugs.Look forward to another update.

James, my truck is a 2019 and I am having a few issues as you described.
I have a aftermarket remote start, compustar, no center dash speaker hooked up, do not have a phone hooked up to system,
When I start my truck with the remote and sometimes with the key the amp does not get powered on, like the radio is not sending a signal to the amp to make sound or power up the amp. It will do this for a while and then it stops for a bit and then starts acting up again. very annoying.
I hope this makes sense, if not I will try to explain more details.

Here is my order information that you sent me and I hope it helps.
If this info is not what you are looking for maybe you could help with my issue.

    Working on it!
I was (1) worried about the update jacking more shit up and (2) being a chicken-shit trying to do the update so decided to be okay with rebooting the JBL head unit sometimes. When I get an "all's clear" from everyone, I'll probably DL it.

Well Tested the new Firmware and nothing has changed. Still has the High Pitch hum. And it kills the music completely on the front speakers when google maps or Waze speaks.

Alright after looking around on the Weblink App for windows I found away to re-flash Firmware ver 1.8. Ver 1.9 & 2.0 act the same. Ver 1.8 dims the music but comes back normal volume but no announcements from maps or waze. Ver 1.9 & 2.0 have a high pitch hum and does do announcements but it cuts any other audio completely out of the front speakers, and it also seems that the volume is lower when the head unit volume is at 40 compared to Ver. 1.8 at 40. And the audio sounds cleaner on Ver 1.8. Hope this helps. I will continue to test firmware when a new one is up and report back here. For anyone else wanting to test on another truck please do so because you can always roll back to Ver 1.8. The more testing the better.
