What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

So it was just a door safety?

I can fix pretty much anything, but I don’t know how everything works or how it’s supposed to work. So I would always ask the lunch ladies; what should it be doing, or does it do this normally? And then that leads me to where I need to start.

 

Yes, a door safety. The door was shut just enough to make it look like it was closed, but not enough to close the circuit for the switch.

Once the electrical panel opens I usually take a back row seat if there is someone more qualified than me. I ask questions to things I'm curious about, and try to keep up mentally.

When new machines show up, that don't work I usually will ask what its supposed to do. Before that happens I try to stand around, and watch it run just so I at least have an idea of what its supposed to do.

I have a good handle on 95% of the machines we service now.

 

My favorite is the baked on, yellowed, 30+ year old, hieroglyphic schematics.

I don't know dick all about how anything above 120v works but I can read diagrams pretty well.

 

Yeah those are good too. My favorite are hand written notes in paint pen, or sharpie on the inside of the cabinet.

Do you have to remove the needles just to remove the green film? I just want the stock white leds to shine white through the cluster.

 

I can't remember if it was 04' or 05' when they changed the cluster from this


If your cluster looks like the picture above you should be able to change the bulbs to LED.

If your cluster looks like @Thrussn's you'll have to take the needles out, and wet sand the filter.

 

Mine looks like the one on the bottom, so if I remove the needles how do I do that and also properly put them back in the right position? Thanks

 

Pretty sure cluster changed in '05 with the change to five-speed transmission.

 

Yeah i was a victim to something similar. In my second or third job, but first working in a kitchen, i was dispatched to the buffet to get the bacon stretcher. i eagerly went to get it and was met with bewilderment and a few laughs. They were kind enough to inform me that "no such thing exists". I Will never forget that day. I didn't quit. Ironicaly, I will be with the company 33 years in february.

I brought it all home, I’m going to try and grease and boot them today........it’s colder than I’d like in the garage, so I’m waiting for it to warm up some; 55 degrees is where I draw the line haha

I also got new keys cut when I picked up the boot kits from the stealer, the keys are super beefy, 8$ a piece and they worked perfect in the door and ignition

 

Yesterday I bought this kit and spent a few hours prepping the frame.




98% of my frame looks like this:



So its really frustrating that the area where it overlaps is such a death zone. It traps moisture and dirt. After cleaning off the old grease and fluid film it looks like this. Can't decide how bad it is but I know it's not good.






It's delaminated here.




Once the temp improves and the humidity drops I'm going to paint that area with the POR-15. After that dries I'm going to squirt as much PB blast into the cracks in hopes that it will drain down into the area where the frame overlaps.

Keep an eye on this area guys as it will breed death. It's crazy that the rest of my frame still looks new.

 

Picked up a camper top today. Actually came off an 06 double cab. Dude was asking $1200 but took $900. Not a steal but they’re hard to find in my area.

reboot wasn’t to bad, just like baking a cake! I used my coffee scale to weigh out 230-250 grams of grease per boot. Jammed all the grease I could into the joints but it was colder out so it didn’t flow that great. I used smooth band worm drive bands from McMasters, used a 7mm hex head. I offset/ clocked all the hex heads for weight balance reasons, I will probably clip off the tail ends of the clamps or fold and tuck. All and all it was a 6 rag, 2 beer(I ran out of mine, so I was drinking hers; Papago orange blossom) job that wasn’t to bad!

 

Just make sure you didn’t over-tighten the clamps. Then you’ll end up with u even pressure all round

 

The oem boot kit came with work clamps? I gonna look at mine and see what it came with.

 

Those come with the stock style clamps that use otiker pliers or a screw driver (forget what style the tundra has)

 

No I got those and the diff oil seals. I thought that was a dust cover at the end of the axle but maybe I don’t even need to take those off when I rebuild.

 

It didn’t not come with worm clamps, I got them seperate from McMasters Recommended from a local member

 

Yes you'll have to remove that cover to get to the axle nut. I think it's part # 43514-28010

This is what you're talking about right? I replaced this damaged one.

 

@CodyP I just realized Frenchie already asked you about those. I assume you're asking about the other side. I didn't replace those. I just cleaned them up.
