My man, if your truck was rusted out that badly... would you bother with a back rest handle?

 

The holes in the bed give it at least 1.5 mpg, less weight and no drag.

I wouldn't let a truck rust out like that. Literally a few hours of prep before each winter would prevent 90% of that.

It's a different world here, especially 15-20 years ago. Vehicles are basically treated as disposable since most of them rotted within 10 years.

Domestic manufacturers seem to have gotten their shit together in the last 10 years though, they don't seem to rust much worse than Honda/Toyota anymore.

 

Did you have this issue with the old ballasts? The xtreme depot wiring harness came with grounds, are those still in place, plus the new ballasts grounded, so two grounds per ballast? I never added the second ground to mine and I've had no issues. Maybe try taking off that second ground.

Also you had asked about warm up time, mine take probably 15-20 seconds to get to full brightness. The morimoto ballasts I had before were a bit faster, but maybe by 3-4 seconds.

My extreme depot harnesses didn't come with grounds. So I'm only using the grounds that came with the Hylux ballasts. I think it might be more of an issue with my DRL's. When I actually turn the lights on they seem to work. More testing is needed. I'll report back.

 

I'll take your word for it. Fluid Film has been around since the 1940's. I would have thought someone would have caught on years ago. I guess like you said it was just a different mindset.

 

That is weird. I'll take a pic tonight of my wiring setup. I disabled my drl before I retrofitted.

Before the hylux ballasts, the lights in my 06 were so much better than my HID's, now when I drive the 06, I feel like I can't see at all. I also drove my fiend's car last night with the new morimoto led bulbs and I still like my cheapish HID retrofit better.

Once you get it figured out I think you'll be glad you did. Also, based off of some of @SouthPaw recent pics, his projectors look better than mine, so you should get better results than I have.

 

The majority of people today just dont care unfortunately. We are bless for toyotas generally well built bodies (I see way less rust fenders on tundras than domestics)and for the frame recalls. So for people like me I get a perfectly rust free body and frame since It got replaced, and its 20 years old from the rust belt!

 

It's hard to understand if you've never lived in the climate for sure.

I had a 99 Dakota I bought in 02, had it oiled every year and by the time I traded it in 06 with under 100k had rotted through the wheel wells in the bed, and the rockers were showing rust.

On newer side the wife's 2011 Durango has a little surface rust on the lower door seams. It's at 167k now so once it hits 200k I'll dump it anyway. Other than spraying some FF on the existing rust I'm not going to bother.

 

Anyone have a good way to fix a dent like this

I can't bring myself to do mine until I put wheels and tires on my truck. My [stock-ass, grandpa style] truck would look goofy AF with a high clearance rear right now.

Sorry I’m late to the party! What exactly is going on with your headlights? I tried reading back through the thread but I must be missing it. I saw one post where one light was coming on but it was a gamble to why. You mentioned your DRL, which if it is the same bulb as your headlight, it will play havoc on your ballasts.

When DRL’s use the low beam bulb, it usually cuts the volts to 9v. It won’t effect standard halogen bulbs as they are like the lights bulbs in your house that can be dimmed by reducing power. HID ballasts and some LED bulbs do not like anything less than 12v or off, nothing in between. It will kill your ballasts in no time. Give me a shout, I’m here to help.

Going forward, if anyone has issues with HID’s, I’m happy to help whether you have purchased lights from me or not. I’ve been using them for over ten years and know just enough to be dangerous.

 

I posted up some pics a long time ago of this region. It was an oil leak I thought to be from Cam Seals and leaking down into and along the Timing Belt Cover exiting out around some gaps. Ended up being a 50 cent o-ring inside the oil pump as revealed when the TB Replace occurred.

Instead of removing the engine to replace the Oil Pump for a 50 cent o-ring, I just cleaned up the front of the oil pump of oil. I then snugged the Oil Pump Bolts a hair around the clock and applied Toyota FIPG along the top seam of the Oil Pump to stop any seepage coming up where the factory sealant was omitted due to the o-ring. Basically, I’ve blocked the oil from seeping up over the Oil Pump top seam (hopefully).

This pic was taken 2 years ago with Gorilla Arm Technique. Top pic is wiped for oil tracking purposes. Middle/bottom pic is pre-wipe. A recent inspection of the same area looks oil free. Also, the oil filter/cooler area seems free of the seepage as well since the oil would migrate down along that route too.

I’ll know more (with pics) when I do an oil change soon and have the Skid Plate removed that this ‘fix’ is truly working. Currently have about 1000 miles on the fix.

 

Rubber mallet, I did something similar in my teenage years to my dad's 02 tundra. Not as bad as that though lol

 

I was just driving a long and an old guy pulled into the road, I gunned it and swerved and luckily that's all that happened. Nothing vital was hit thank goodness
