It all looks clean still, call or email the company you ordered from and tell them they messed up and you just noticed it

 

I sent an email. I'm gonna hit the hay while I wait on a response.

If I don't hear back from them in 7 days the sleeve will be for sale.

Along with

• OEM Upper ball joints X2 Unused
• OEM 194 incandescents with the green condom X3 Unused.
• A few Toyota 1157 sockets X? Most are used.

 

Small cracks are pretty hard to see on these because they have those built in washers blocking the view. Unless its seriously collapsedI don'tthink you can get a good visual.

Mine looked okay but were making awful sounds. Since I was replacing everything else on my front suspension I got new arms as well. When I disconnected the spindle I grabbed the lower arm and started twisting it, it had what seemed to be a lot of play.

 

I am unsure exactly the size but this is the part I bought for the overflow on ATF pan:

10-4, I don't have any noticeable sounds at this time. I may just grab ahold this weekend and see if I can generate any movement which would be indicative of vibes . Otherwise I'm not opening the LCA can of worms until I have to.

If you do need to replace them, ignore all of those burning videos, I just used pb blaster and a bottle jack. Pushed them out and it makes a really cool pop when they let go and launch about 3 feet. Used a ball joint press to push them back in. (like the video below but without the heat)

Ha, I actually watched that vid last night! Though my Tundra has lived its entire life in Colorado, I still fear after 300k miles those sumbitches are gonna be stuck solid. Heat / bottle jack (Timmy's approach) is the most intriguing approach I've viewed thus far, though!

 

Mine was 225 when I did it. Plan it for a weekend and I'll come up!

lol I still can't smell anything so I'll take your word for it! Which is a bummer because I was hoping to see if I could smell any difference with the new O2 Sensors..... Drove to St. Louis and back this morning first thing, got 14.7MPG if you go off the odometer, but because the tires are oversized my math puts it at 15.53MPG highway on 91 non-ethanol today. That was also going fairly fast.....definitely not going for MPGs, definitely going for MPHs.

 

Yeah. My exhaust (seriously) smells like steam now since the all new o2’s. Used to have a gas oil twinge especially when early morning start ups.

 

Found a pic from about 2 years ago when I did my Valve Covers Gaskets. I used the Toy FIPG 103 on the 2 half moons on the backside there. My internals look good. Lobes all smoov a shiny.

TL/DW The Upper ball joint adapters from SPC were too small by .007-.008 of an inch causing wiggle on his upper ball joint.

I'll take my digital calipers home tonight, and compare my adapters to my OEM Upper ball joints.

I know @FirstGenVol is running SPC, but is anybody else running these, and did you have any issues on the install?

Edit: In part 3 he revealed that he is using Tuff country spindles instead of OEM. Watching part 1-2 as an "uninformed" observer like me, key details were missed. I'm sure someone with more aftermarket suspension experience like @Darkness or others could have noticed that before getting to part 3 like me.

Anyways, still taking my digital calipers home with me. I won't be able to measure my spindle holes, but I figure a comparison between the OEM UBJ, and the SPC adapter should be fine.

 

Eesh, you have more than one? Yeah I wouldn’t want to shove calipers in my spindle hole either!

I watched that also, if you have OEM control arms and you've never used Moog Problem Solver ball joints you won't have any issues. SPC has taken both of those into account also and now offers these to solve the issue. I'm not sure if the newer revisions of the arms comes with them already.

Everything up front is OEM except the coilovers obviously. So I'll be okay according to the specs, your reccomendation, and my own verifications.

OEM. Its hard to see, but I did rotate it for measurements.


SPC. While they are indeed smaller it'll be alright due to the expansion seam.

 

I have SPCs and enjoy them. Beat the piss out of them on my old Tacoma as well.

While I'm planning things for the front, and still acquiring the correct parts...

I guess now would be the best time to.upgrade the bumpstops. I drive on some poorly maintained country roads most of the time. The roads are always beaten up by tractors, and tractor trailers.

Added vibration absorption in the front isn't a bad thing?

Whats reccomended?

 

I haven't found new bumps for myself yet, but I'll let ya know if/when I come across something. I've heard wheelers and durobumps are used by others. Seems like some have to modify 2nd gen Taco bumps to fit our rigs, too. Don't quote me on any of that, though, I'll let someone who's tackled that project chime in.

As for your SPC videos from Kyle (The Other Guy), I believe part of his issue is that he has a spindle lift of some sort / isn't running factory spindles. I've never had wiggle or loose ubj's with my SPCs. Food for thought is all.

 

Question. I need to install my new ballasts. These come with a ground while the previous ones didn't. Can I just mount the ground where the existing grounds are? Unscrew that bold pictured and reinstall with both grounds?

The one in my hand is the one I need to install. The black ground is coming off the negative terminal and I think it's from a trailer brake controller the previous owner installed.

 

I have SPCs and I very much enjoy them. My alignment guy says some shops have problems adjusting them but he doesn't.

I replaced my front-rear OEM bumpstops with Timbren ABSTOFs. They're a lot taller than the OEM ones and I notice they're a lot smoother when bottoming out offroad. Eventually down the line I might buy a set for the front-forwards.

 

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about bump stops. There are only two options. Expensive durobumps or Wheelers which are made for current gen Tundra. The wheelers option is what I have and since they are not made for our trucks, the bump is almost constantly riding on the LCA. You are not doing major offroading in your truck so I wouldn't waste your money on something that's overkill and doesn't even fit our trucks properly.

 

@Tundra2 exactly this. Make sure you have a guy that knows how to adjust SPCs. That's priority. Otherwise some idiot is going to give you a dog shit alignment every time.

 

Good point. Money saved can be put towards future rock auto bill...

As far as that ground on your new ballasts. You could give it a shot. That's how I've been hooking up the few added grounds I needed.

I'm sure SPC makes stuff for other brands of vehicles, but I am kind of nervous now about finding a reputable shop. It wasn't something that I thought about before going this route.
