I used to work at a local dealer long time ago.
I'll never take anything I own to a dealership ever.

 

Most DIY compressors don't fit these coils properly. They're made for use on car coils, not for heavy truck coils.

For the average wrenching guy I would take the coilover assembly to a shop and pay them an hours rate to swap shocks.

For the risky wrenching guy I would do the move where you remove the top nut, jack up the car and remove the lower bolt. It isn't the best way to go but probably safer than those rental compressors.

 

That’s why I ended up buying a beefy spring compressor to do mine. Those rentals are WAY to scary and my face is WAY too pretty

 

I didnt read everyone’s responses but basically everything can be done relatively easily. Those prices are completely outrageous: If ur decent with tools you can tackle everything in a weekend, or even a day. The only thing thats mildly sketchy is compressing ur springs. But u could remove ur struts and take it to a shop and id bet they would swap it for u for cheap. U could replace the LCA’s and typically come with new bushings installed. I think u can even buy replacement struts with the springs on them for pretty cheap too. Rockauto is ur friend if ur on a budget.

 

Some Autozone stores have that one as a rental or they can order it in.

 

To summarize:
1. That's way too much money to pay for parts or labor.
2. Most of these are simple unbolt and bolt on new part jobs. Any of the jobs you can do at home will save on shop labor.
3. If you're not comfortable tackling them yourself, get a friend, or order parts and find a reputable shop to perform the install that will charge much less than the stealership.

Threadjack, but have you been happy with that set? It's the same cost as it is to pay a shop and I'd rather have the tool if it works well.

 

Honestly man call around some reputable mechanics in your area or just straight up give them that list of things, have them confirm if it needs done, then have them give you a quote. That's really all it comes down to

As everyone else has stated, those prices are crazy high. You could pay for another members roundtrip flight, upgraded parts, new tools, and beer and spend much less and come out of it all with more knowledge, a new friend, new tools, and a truck in better shape.
Honestly, if you were closer I would say come over and we'll knock it out in a weekend. I think shop around, and try some stuff yourself. You'll be surprised at what you can do yourself with support of everyone on this forum and if you screw up, you can take it to a shop.

 

As for the struts, I've done the no compressor method by using a floor jack below the LCA. It's not hard. The only part I had to have help for (solo install) was helping me get the strut in on one side while holding down the LCA (I didn't loosen the cam bolts, next time I would). As others have said, if you're not comfortable with this have a local shop press them. Schedule your appointment and have a lunch/beer break while they're doing it. With their floor press, it's probably a 30 minute job, tops.

The labor prices are stupid. Do it yourself. Good luck!

The prices seem crazy high to me although I find the dealerships are always crazy high. Hop on rockauto and see what their prices are, I just replaced rear LCA and sway bar links on my 2nd gen Sequoia and they were $300 on rock auto while the dealership wanted over $3000 and that was just parts. I had a 05 Tundra Quad Cab Limited before and all my parts experiences were the same from the dealer to rock auto.

 

You have a better angle on your Transmission Mount? Empty Lord had a look at mine and said it looked fine. Here is the pic of it will 170k miles.

Agreed... I wouldn't bother with it, unless the rubber was severely cracked and you felt lots of vibration when putting it into reverse.

Nope. It’s a big chunk of rubber, if the rubber breaks or cracks badly it’s shot. When a trans mount is bad you’d know it when shifting and and out of reverse and stomping on the gas.
