3/2 lift and TSS Radar

Does anyone here have a 2018+ with a 3/2 lift and the sensor in the stock location? If you do, do you have handy issues at all with the radar?

‘I have the ‘17 Pro Grill w/the sensor in the ARES bracket. Everything’s fine around town, but at freeway speeds it cuts out. I have a 3/2 lift as well.

 

mine(2020) does same thing with the pro grill and ares bracket, it's intermittent and I have just learned to live with it.

 

Sounds like a loose connector or heavy vibrations are interfering with the sensor. I would check the extension cable's pin in - out (if it came with a cable). Rubber washers in-between the mount and the vehicle may help dampen vibrations.

I have a 2.5” lift in front and 1” in rear on my 2019 with the 2014-2017 TRD pro grille and the TSS sensor relocated using the Jomax bracket and it’s been working flawlessly for over a year.

Unless your vehicle geometry changes dramatically at highway speeds I would think it’s a loose connector or mount. Might check your wiring and sensor to make sure nothings loose.

 

I added a 1/4” of washers to the bottom 2 sensor bolts and it now works like it’s supposed to at any speed (checked on I5 at 78-79mph) and is was flawless. It speeds up and slows down like it’s supposed to now.

We’ll see long term.

 

Spaced the bottom of the sensor another 1/4” and it is working as intended so far. It actually never worked correctly when I bought the truck new, even before the lift.

 

So far I really think it was the angle. I’ll see if the fix is still good in a month or so and repost. Dam, I was thinking about shackles/AAL to add another 1/2” in the rear. Well, I might do that anyway minus the extra 1/2”. I want to get rid of the blocks.

 

If my “fix” doesn’t work I might try this. I like how you can’t see the sensor at all.

 

Oh that is great! so are you thinking the angle was slightly off or is the washer dampening the vibrations? I could see the beam being scattered if it is vibrating too much.

 

Correct, I think it was all angle because of the loss of front end rake. I think with the truck sitting level, 3/2 lift on 35’s, it possibly wasn’t seeing much of the car ahead and freeway speeds may have made it even worse. It got better when I changed from a 3/1 lift to a 3/2 lift (2” block instead of a 1”, it really didn’t work at all with the 1”). By tilting it a little more towards the ground was like adding rake back to the truck and now it works like it never has. I can actually use all 3 distance settings instead of just the largest setting #3. As before I could only use #3 around town and on the freeway until it turned itself off. When new and pre lift most of the time it was all warning and “BRAKE” messages. Like I said, it actually works now unlike the last 2 1/2 years. For the long term, we’ll have to wait and see. I know it seems to be different from truck to truck on whether or not it works, but I am more optimistic now than I ever have been.

As far as the clean sensor message goes, I haven’t seen that message since I took the sensor out of the stock housing.
