I hear you. I too hit the same temps driving 80+ on my 2020 as well (according to Scan gauge).

As far as I know the oil hasn't been reformulated but I'm not too concerned based on the reports shared so far. I will likely end up getting the cooler put on at some point. For now I'll change the fluid at earlier intervals as a precaution.

Welcome to the forum. . .while this topic has been beat. . .literally. .to death. . .this still is a forum for discussion. . .if we don't wanna discuss, we don't have to chime in . I'm new here too. . .and there's a wealth of knowledge here. .
Those Temps do sound high. . .is it extremely hilly in the area you were driving? Only thing I see possible is maybe the constant back and forth between gears

Towing a boat in drive and my transmission pan tracked the oil pan temps. Nothing I was concerned about.

Water boils at 212 and I find it concerning people are panicked over oil temps a little above boiling water.

Yes but oil can break down at high temps diminishing its properties to protect the transmission components. What that threshold is I don't know offhand.

I'd have to re-read dozens upon dozens of threads, but I believe it was about 250-260F.

Sounds about right. Every 10 degrees above degrades the oil life by a factor of 2 from what I remember.

I remember reading that some 19+ were seeing 230s not towing. Toyota says the fluid is good to 280 or so and the overheat light doesn’t come on until 302. 230 is nothing and you probably hit that cause you were driving 80 mph. It’s a heavy truck.

Theoretically, a stock 19+ will never stay at 180-190 as the “warmer” will be carrying coolant through it that is hotter than that.

Mine is a 2020 and 220's-230's was avg trans temp during normal driving, no towing.
Adding the cooler dropped temps a solid 50 degrees.

I understand that "a stock 19+ will never stay at 180-190" as my coolant temperature is a constant at 205F. Optimal though, is quite different than what is realized through this application as opposed to theoretical engagements.

I think you’re looking for a problem that doesn’t exist. If towing, get a cooler. If not, there hasn’t been any proof of cooked transmissions. The original post is full of misconceptions and facts that have been disproven. 230 isn’t the death of current transmissions.

Dispoven because Toyota states that WS is okay until 280F? Right. Aisin makes very robust transmissions. That is not to say that their life can't be extended substantially by lowering the temps 20-30F. As stated here and on other forums with fluid engineers/tribologists- HEAT is the main factor in whether the transmission can go 100K or 400K.

If "I was looking for a problem that doesn't exist" then why even have Nick offer the tranny cooler? Why is the lack/omission of it such a big deal to some, dude? Seems counterintuitive.

    Cause some people tow.

I’m not going to point out everything that’s wrong with your original post cause your mind is made up and it’s clear you are just looking for others to reinforce your opinion. You’ll never get a stock 19+ 20-30 lower than 230 while going 80mph.

Good luck in your endeavors. Happy thanksgiving. Dude.

Please point out "everything that is wrong." Other than my speculative conjecture based on circumstantial supposition (from relevant VOA/UOA's of WS) that the fluid is spent, I am all ears.

BTW, I would be willing to wager that when a fluid exchange is done with a top quality synthetic, that the temps would be reduced. Yes, that is an "assumption" that I would be willing to make.

I will absolutely do that. However, it is not the basis of this thread. The premise was to illicit responses from folks who may have seen the same temperatures. While the fluid may be "serviceable" as is, it has been concluded, that it is an inferior fluid and there are much better choices out there.

Well I have 35s and my fluid hit 285 this weekend and the transmission doesn't work now, and I have a cooler. Maybe that'll help you :D

This is one way to increase your post count in aspiration of becoming a forum veteran, but without adding value to the discussion it only diminishes your credibility.
