If I can ask, what duration/mileage did you own them? I had 11.5 yrs and over 250k miles on my TC USA cover. I hate the idea of spending $2.5k on a cover that won’t last the way I hold onto my rigs.

A lot. See my channel for all installs/mods!
Yeah no problem, my first one I had for six years and roughly 80,000 miles… I used it on my first two trucks that were double cabs… It was still going strong when I bought my current platinum that is a crew max which is the only reason I had to purchase a new one due to the smaller bed...and this time around I went with the XR for the ability to use the crossbars over it... I actually sold the original one to a friend who is still using it today… Wax the inside of the rails every now and then to keep it running smooth, that’s really the only maintenance I’ve done on them

I would say if you’re planning on adding a overhead rack go with the XR as they’re built into the design. Granted the Yakima overhead rack is pretty pricey and they get you with having to buy the special XR landing pads as well. Your toolbox options are limited with the XR but a lot of people seem to be happy with swingcases or tonneaumate. I like having my toolbox up top and easily accessible which is why I fabbed the American work cover from the roll cover. Added on the rails to work with Yakima crossbars and then made custom landing pads to work the my tracrac.

what issues did you have with your tc USA? Mine has been fairly reliable

    Thanks bud, really appreciate that.

I think I found what worked for me. Found some stout hooks for the bed bolts. And instead of notching the washer, I was able to put the hook between the bolt and washer. Looks cleaner.

For sure XR if I go Retrax. I had one of the first TCUSA ones they made with the “integrated” rails (they bolted the Yamika rails to the side rails of the cover before shipping basically).

Mostly little stuff. It really was a great cover. Not many things that get used like that will last for as long as it did (and likely will still for the new owner).

I had the ripcord release handle and had to replace it twice (cables wore/frayed). The steel locking bars riding in the aluminum slots would gum up with crap over time and not extend or lock. It rains for three months straight here, and water gets into those lock bars and they just didn’t operate smooth. And if that water froze (I live higher elevation and get a lot of freeze in winter), then there was no getting it opened. Seemed to me if they sandwiched or lined that slot with UMHW then you’d get smooth operation regardless of water, gunk, or ice.

Eventually, the plastic drain tube connectors got brittle and one broke. I’d have liked to have had those made of brass or aluminum. Any exposed plastic (trim caps on the canister, plastic side/end trim on rails) all started to disintegrate.

And, after about 150k miles, it got to where it just wouldn’t stay in the very rear-most position...it would jump off the adjustable end lock spot (which I could no longer get to adjust) and would leave a 1” gap to the tailgate. And if I was on a bumpy road, the jimmy and shake of the bed would pop the lock bars out of their lock spots and the cover would roll open.

Sounds worse than it was I guess, just has me looking for something that potentially solves some of those pain points. It was rock solid, and I never babied it.

Whatever I do get, I’m expecting I’ll be modifying/tweaking a bit before install ensure it has hardware that won’t oxidize/corrode out on me, and look hard at making sure the drains will hold up for the long haul and abuse.

Not sold on the toolbox add-on... how bad does it block your rear window?

It would also be nice to maintain the factory tie-down rails better. The TCUSA solution that I paid extra for kinda sucked - it wasn’t very rigid...

Gave her a wash and used the 3 in 1 Griots Ceramic spray. Picture doesn't show it justice on how shiny and smooth it is. Too bad I can't put a 2nd coat because truck stays outside. Didn't do the roof though, took me 2+ hrs already. Thing is a monster of a car wash.

I had fun project today, installed SPod Switches and ARB Compressor.
Compressor is mounted on aluminum bracket made by our member @Bannock452 great product, very fast shipping.
I just drilled 4 new holes for my single ARB.
    Very happy

Was yours a work the first time straight out of the box type deal? Looks great!

After some heavy modifications, I got mine to “work” today. However, the panic is still not the greatest but the other two work relatively well.

I actually did two today with no issue. The panic button is weird on both because it’s only on one side on the stock fob. So only the right side of the MESO button clicks

Nice gents. I like the idea of a flip key more n more each day. I'm just wondering how hard, if possible to get it to work on my 16 w/ factory remote start?

Just had to replace my windshield with OEM glass for the 3rd or 4th time. Maybe the ol lady is right, maybe I should give more room between the vehicle in front of me? Nah just added free replacement to my insurance policy not long ago so I can continue to push them slow drivers out the fast lane when they have no business. Pic just bc.

It uses the internals from one of your existing key fobs, so it should affect the remote start at all
