Thanks for your detailed response. Ill try S mode manually shifting up after a stop later on today. Just suprised me the first time messing around with it.

Ya, play around with it a little so see what happens. Maybe at some point it may make a little more sense. Then maybe let us know here, so we can have an idea what to anticipate.

I'm going to agree. Mine did the same thing when I had the older version of Gear Lock. Basically S-Range GL is manual in the same way that Tow/Haul GL was. You should treat it as a manual, minus the clutch pedal.

It will shift into 4th as soon as its able to with the safety parameters build in.

From a stop you will start in 2 and then it will quickly go 3..4 and stay there unless you slow WAY down and it has to downshift again because of the safety. From what I remember the indicator stays in S4, same as it does in a regular ECU.

Like stock, the gear light is what you're "shifted (set) to" not what your trans is actually in.

Does there seem to be a minimum speed where it'll upshift from a stop?

when in gearlock mode you must be in S and shift manually.
Ideally, think of it as a manual without a clutch.

I may not fully understand the Q. I guess it depends on what gear you're in?

It goesto the next gear as soon as the trans is in a "safe" place for that gear.

So for example, we cant start in 5th.. it would bog and stall...
It would bog and stall going from 1-5 also...

If in manual mode and S5... from a stop it will start in 2 (because thats "safe" and do-able but 3 isnt from a stop) and then as soon as it deems it "safe" it will progress asap to the selected gear. It moves to 3 almost immediately, only a few mph.

I dont know what the actual minimums are. I know that its enough that it feels ok to start from a stop and let it progress through them at the bare minimum "safe" shifts. Its a little less torque obviously.

Thanks. I think I understand what you're saying.
I'll work out the details when I get the chance to play with the tune for my truck when it is done.

OV tune, can you incorporate TC lock up also when you work on my tune? I know you need to troubleshoot it for GL not working. Thank You.

@OVTune Mat, is this something we need to be requesting? I assumed this would be built into the gear lock.

This is the one thing I wish we could've had/done from the beginning (and have it evolve as new things were found). Do you want GL? Check this box. Do you want to remove the 4wd low range limits? Check this box.

That way we know what is/was available and we can custom tailor our tune(s), instead of reading about it and then inundating Mat with more tune revisions. I'm sure that alone has caused many delays in the timeline for tune receipt (besides COVID).

Agreed. A sheet with all the options laid out that you submit would be nice, and perhaps simplify things by saying THIS is what I (Mat) am willing to change. Can we change tons of things? Sure, but to keep matters fast and efficient these are the 12 parameters that are a yes/no option.

Hey amigo, are these giving you some grief? I can go out to my truck and yell and berate it if you think that will make it more cooperative. :argue:;):D

    Mat,

So I went out to test my direct shift tune and ran into some issues. When shifting into A mode it acts very weird. Sometimes it goes to 3 sometimes to 4. Regardless though it will not shift up or down. When trying to start out in first from a stop it seems like it's starting in second. As soon as I toss it into D, it works fine. There was also a hiccup (but only once) where in tow/haul mode it was acting like it was in gear lock. I flashed my "stock" tune that you provided and it's back to normal. Any ideas?

I've had this happen on a completely stock vehicle but have never been able to reproduce it at will.

I was going 45 to 55 after leaving my neighborhood. I was trying everything out to make sure that it worked, and had just finished tow/haul test in D. When I was heading away from the house, I was probably around 45 mph and it shifted over into S and it showed 3. When I gave it gas it accelerated, and when I shifted into 4, nothing happened. I shifted back into D, and then I shifted back into S going around 55. It would still not shift up or down, and beeped at me when I tried to put it into 2nd lol. So I switched back to D, and then turned down a side road and pulled a u-turn. When going up to the stop sign, I shifted in S, and down into 1st and turned right. It was very sluggish, and felt like it was starting in a higher gear. I switched back into D, came home, plugged the laptop, and flashed back to stock.

It was very strange to be honest.

Hmmm, that's not what I would expect either, for sure. I would bet that Mat would want logs sent to Zendesk though, that way he would be better able to see what "all the things" are doing in relation to each other at specific points in time. I know that would require you to flash again and more of your time, but any data feedback, versus the relatively intangible subjective "seat or the pants feeling" that he can get, the better he can sort out these crazy TCUs.

I messaged Mat through the email he sent me the files in. I know that some folks like to come here and bash him without telling him on Zendesk, and I didn't want to be accused of that, lol. I'll post back once he replies and/or we figure this out.

This sounds like it was in gear lock. Thats what mine does.

I think the ECM picks the best gear for you when you flip over into S mode based on your speed/load/rpm ... with gear lock then you need to manually shift up/down if you arent in the gear you want.

Starting off in 2 definitely sounds like gear lock. Were you in S mode? T/H?

When I was first trying to figure out if it worked for me the best thing I did was scanned (either with the tuner software or a BT OBD2 scanner).. and watched the parameter that shows actual gear. A lot of time when I though it was shifting up/down it was just the converter.

Also, the beeping at you for 2 was just because you were going too fast for 2nd. Thats a safety from the factory that we will still have.

I've had gear lock in the past, and didn't personally see a need for it so I asked for only direct shift. This was not in tow/haul mode.

Will have an update on YWF files as soon as possible.

For some ECUs gearlock and directshift are just not working, even though everything in the code looks exactly right. If we can't get it resolved soon then we may have no choice but to pull the plug on those features for those ECUs.

It's really weird because the code is literally identical...

FWIW, after work this afternoon I'm off for the next 8 days if you want to conduct some trial and error/experiments.

It is what it is. Guess I'm one of the unlucky ones.

    Thanks for the reply.

I'd like to give you guys an update on what we are going to do. Because I honestly don't know why it is not working on certain ECUs.

    1. We are going to make a list of all known ECUs that the features are working without issue.
    2. If your ECU is on this list and you received your features / tunes, great. Your tune is complete and you shouldn't need further updates.
3 If your ECU is not on this list, but you are waiting for an update, we are going to make any necessary updates to your tune that you need, and then finalize it.

Then, we will continue testing in the back ground with anyone with an ECU version that the features are not working properly on, to correct it and make it functional.
After we have verified that, we will prepare new versions of your completed tune with those features.
I'm not really sure what else to do, the code is literally identical and does not work from one ECU to another. Truly I am trying to figure out why but it just doesn't make sense.
If you purchased the flash kit specifically for S mode Gear lock or Direct Shift features and it is not functioning on your ECU, please email me and we can discuss testing further on your ECU, compensation, etc.
We are not giving up, we just don't want to keep some people in limbo. If it currently isn't working on your ECU, lets finish any other things needed and finalize your tune, then revisit the features later.

Okie dokie. This makes sense and is reasonable in my mind. We'll check out the list when it's released and go from there.
