I think what he ment by his comments is that the topic has a dedicated thread and has been beaten to death.

Back in 2006, my Tundra came with a hitch but not ball or mount either. I don't recall every seeing a new Tundra on a lot with a ball on it.

With a ball or a ball mount? I wouldn't expect to get a ball, though you can pay the dealership $65 for one (or just go to Canadian Tire and pick one up for $20). In my opinion, there is no way a ball mount shouldn't be included. Mine was in a box under the back seat, not in the receiver itself.

I don't disagree. It has been discussed a lot. My observation was in response to another poster saying that the ball mount had been included some years ago and I observed that perhaps this is part of 'de-contenting' the Tundra to keep prices stable.

Nothing, just the hitch and the receiver, back in 2006. In fact, same thing with my 2002, just a hitch and receiver. Both bought new off the lot.

My question was in reference to "I don't recall ever seeing a new Tundra on a lot with a ball on it." Did you mean with a ball or with a ball mount?

I asked because I wouldn't expect to get a ball with a new truck but I would expect to get a ball mount. But you're not going to see it in the receivers on the trucks on the lot because Toyota puts it in a box under the back seat at the factory. If your dealership is stealing those and then trying to sell them to you, it's time to find a new dealership.

All I can say is that my 2002, 2006, 2020, all new, different So Cal dealers, no ball mounts.

I think this is a Canada thing. No ball mounts in the USA trucks.

Some Americans have gotten the ball mount. Weird that the Texas plant would not put the mount in the truck of the US and Canada would get it. Next time someone is in the showroom lift up the seat and check for the box containing the mount.

Do Americans get the locking wheel nut kit?

It’s an option. Not standard. Didn’t come on my upgraded (BSM, RCTA, sunroof) Limited.

Locking wheel nuts = option that didn’t come with my truck.

Ball mount = never seen one sold with a truck or seen listed as an option.

So why can you add a ball when you build and price a truck but not a ball mount? Seems to imply the ball mount should be included.

Regional differences I guess. Some regions offer the locking tailgate lock as an option it seems, but not in my region. Maybe some regions offer it as an option, but I wonder if it is included in the itemized price, and not 'free' if provided.

Ive been running the same hitch for the last 3 years. With a hitch tighter on it to keep from rattling. The combo works great, I really like the adjustment, I’ve needed the 2-5/16 ball a few times and nice not to carry two separate hitches. That and a Ranchand Steel rear bumper helps keep tailgaters at bae.

Hitch tightener is a must for nearly all hitch applications honestly.

I was able to find a tow ball on an accessories add-on page but still no ball mount.
Should this be near the jack and spare tire tools?

That's where I keep mine but when I picked up my truck, it was just in a box in the floor in the back.

This is the mount I’ve been using for a couple years now, I like it because you can adjust height with everything still hooked up. Just pull the pin and use the trailer jack to get it where you want it. And it puts the tongue a little further behind the bumper and lets you cut a lot further before having to worry about putting trailer in your bumper.

20200928_184437.jpg Here's the box mine came in. It does have a part number on it, so maybe it's something my dealership orders and throws in on every new truck. They didn't mention it, other than to tell me it was there, but they also gave me a set of bed cleats, all weather floor mats and locking lug nuts.

Everything you mentioned is what is in the truck when it comes from the factory. As part of the PDI the bed cleats and the locking wheel nuts are installed, the extra weather floor mats and the ball mount are placed on the back floor.

Google "Curt Forged Ball Mount" and be done with it. Cost is a little more, but you'll never have a weld failure.

We have a Toyota PDI sheet that has to be followed and checked off. Bed cleats have to be installed and carpet mats remain in place with weather mats place in the back. You had a lazy PDI guy.

When I got my 2016 it came with the ball mount. My son just got a 2020 and it also came with the ball mount. But in both cases the cleats were in a box in the back. Probably to avoid theft. Ball mount is too high anyway, had to get a adjustable one as our trailers all had different tongue heights.
