If you smell it, you're going to have to deal with it. Can postpone & research, but keep an eye for leaks going forward.
Make sure your breather is working - You really don't want pressure build up inside there now if the pumpkin is weak.

JB weld was the route I ended up going. I couldn’t really find an auto shop that would/could weld on a new diff cover. I’ve only had to patch it once (covered more area) and fixed my stuck breather (didn’t know about it until reading the forums and watching some videos)

How do you check and make sure the breather is working?

Well I had the truck 'in' for something else & said 'ya know - have him check the rear breather too'.
Others can give you a useful answer. Off hand, I'd guess remove it, & try blowing through it? Probably full of road grit & clogged shut.

Pull it and blow through it. Better to just buy a new one and install it based on your condition of truck.

I told my mechanic to go ahead & replace it - he said no reason to, cleaned up just fine. I was left thinking they are basic & mechanical & refurbish-worthy.

    Suck it/blow it.

mine was frozen: cap would not spin. Also when I took it off, there was an audible release of air

    it’s part number: 90930A3001

Was it a sucking or a blowing release? It matters.

    Definitely release by blowing.

I really should do the “remote” breather mod considering the terrible salt we use up here. Theyre cheap enough parts

Spent the morning updating the 40 gallon with a lot of new plants. Mostly anubias varieties but also dropped in a few water lettuce. Hoping the lettuce will rob any algae of nutrients.
    20200926_145716.jpg

Then spent some time planting about 40 stems of compact hygrophila along the front of the little tank. Hoping my shrimp will stop being shy little assholes and hang out where I can see them now.
    20200926_114723.jpg

Doing that reminded me I had an idea for a unique background, so I grabbed a few boards off a pallet and ripped the edges straight. Glued them together to make a 30x12 board, now I'm waiting for that to dry so I can sand it and maybe stain it.

Nice to spend a day on relaxing stuff instead of what my wife wants. :D

Well, I guess I'm gonna go through the winter without lights in my HVAC controls again. I ran out of time this summer and never got around to making a list of the bulbs I needed to order. I am planning to pick up a battery tomorrow, assuming Costco has them in stock. I'm gonna go the "cheap but decent" route for now since money is tight, then upgrade later on.

Damn, now you guys have me going down this rabbit hole, as I definitely have lots of rust to contend with. I will need to carefully scrape off the rust on my diff cover to examine its condition.

The breather filter is only $4, so why not just change it:
    https://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.com/oem-parts/toyota-plug-breather-9093003136

Also, for those that have done the mod, to extend it up to the gas filler, what parts to use?

I've been working on my Tundra so much, I've been neglecting my wife. So, to balance out the chi, I needed to spend time to do something for her. More specifically, for her ride.

I initially brought up the idea of upgrading our Honda Pilot's headlamp assembly to one of the new snazzy LED arrays in the latest models. She did not care for them initially, but 1 yr later, she sees how nice they look when they are not even lit up. We essentially upgraded our 2018 Pilot EX-L to appear like a 2019/2020 Pilot Elite.

There's a guy on Fleabay that makes a really nice set of wiring harnesses that allows for a complete plug-n-play solution. Once I got that, I had to go bargain shopping to find 2nd hand headlamps in good condition. Factory list price is $1000 per headlamp. Landed a pair for $700. Now I had my work cut out for me. This swapout requires the entire bumper to be removed. Not difficult, but the number of many different fasteners and bolts was tedious. In the end, it took a good 3-4 hours to complete, making sure everything was reassenbled as perfectly as possible.

Heres a link. Per my receipt I chose to upgrade to the 8ft length. I realize that I "overpaid" if priced things out separately but this saved me some work on my end.

I've added the night time photos. It's difficult to represent the drastic difference between the two, but the LED lighting gives an amazingly wide beam. The better to see deer with (there are tons of them in my suburban realm, no natural predators).

Now, I have to get a set of LED bulbs for the fog lamps...

Anyone care to take a guess as to what this noise could be. Our Rav4 makes a very loud metallic sounding click. It typically only does it when I'm moving the vehicle on an incline, but the other day I was driving at low speed down a hill and manually gate shifted into L and it made the noise. It will only make the noise one time then I don't hear it again until I go to move the car the next time I drive it. It's a lot louder in person.

It happens around the 4 second mark. You'll hear me shift into reverse then you'll hear the noise. I'm wondering if it's a sway bar link since it only seems to happen when the vehicle is on incline or decline.

Sounds like a solenoid click from the tranny? It clicked before you even moved?
