    Hi there.

found your post referencing putting your sub behind the seat. I am wanting to do this too.

The sub I found that I can build is only 5” deep x 24” x 36”. very slim.

Would this fit? I haven’t done this mod yet as I just found out you can do it.

thanks for any info I can get!

Hi, that would not fit, in my opinion, what I call a workable area is about 7" deep(flushed against the seat), 13"high if you want the seat to fold up and down and about 18"wide due to the seatbelt for the middle seat, if you don't need the middle seat then you can go the whole with of the driver side rear seat. I had a custom box build and I put it under the rear drive seat, I raised the seat about 2" no drilling required, completely reversible and you wouldn't need to do the back seat mod if you choose to go this way. My sub is 7" tall and 8" in diameter, this is a full body sub not shallow mount. I think I have pics here, if I don't let me know and I can send you some.

I finally did this mod. I used a pair of bolt cutters, worked awesome in one minute. I stoked as this allowed me to drop the factory sub box behind the seat to make room for my under seat storage unit.

@Mountun Goat I love that idea to move the sub. I need more storage and this would really help.

Just to be clear when you do this mod the seat backs just tilt back and are no longer fixed correct? If yes, do they ever fall forward with say heavy breaking?

Anyone here just removed the larger seat and built out a Platform?

Lots of peeps remove seats and build cabinets etc.

The rear of the seat only folds down when the bottom of the seat is folded up. When down, the seat back locks back into place as factory.

Did this mod tonight at my son's football practice. It was getting dark, all I had for light was my cell phone, I was doing it alone, my back seat area was full of junk, and it still only took me like 45 minutes. I took my torx driver with me but totally forgot the step of removing the hooks and just cut them in place with a 4" grinder. I'm sure all the other football parents were like what's that dumbass cutting on INSIDE his idling truck on the side of the road. Everything worked as advertised in this thread. My only oops moment was that I removed a seat belt bolt from the floor by mistake cuz it was so damn dark I couldn't tell it wasn't holding in the seat bracket. Thanks everybody for the tips on how to do this mod!

Edit: one question...does the center seat belt shoulder strap disconnect at all? Down at the bottom there's a little latch like a normal seat belt buckle without a release button. Does that come apart?

I'm sure someone here has done this mod. If I do lift the seat with spacers and longer bolts, do I still need to cut off the metal to fold the seat forward?

Thank you for posting! A very useful mod that allows more storage flexibility and gives you another place to keep items out of sight.

A couple of lessons learned from my project.

3:30 into the video gives a great reference where to make your cut "just right". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dt9jM2KTRo

When re-installing the seat, leave it folded down, and install the back wall bolts finger tight. This will quickly allow you to verify the modified hooks work or troubleshoot before fully tightening all the seat base bolts.

Once my mod was done, I noticed that when the seat base is latched fully up the "behind the seat" space disappears. Once I stashed bulkier items behind the seat, the seat base lost range of motion to latch in the "up" position. Certainly not a deal-breaker, just something to think about when planning out the packing list or designing your sub-woofer box.

I finally got around to doing a version of this mod. I wanted a little extra room under the seat for a certain sub box so I decided to raise my seats 1 inch. The one inch raise got me the clearance needed for seat backs to clear the loops and fold down. In case anyone is interested in raising the seats, I used hockey pucks as washer/spacers.

If you slide a small screwdriver in between the two plastic pieces then you can open it up a little on the passenger side of the belt. No need to completely separate it. You will see a red plastic piece, push on that with your screwdriver and the seatbelt will release.

I ended up making a little hole on that one side for future ease of removing too...and have already used it 2 times while mocking up a back wall board for hanging and mounting items... gun rack, amp, etc...

+1 for the hammer method, quick and easy mod! Just used a 14mm to get the seats loose and a rubber mallet to bend the loops.

    Thanks @Rubberdown

Just finished modifying mine using the hammer method. Definitely the easiest mod I've done to my truck aside from replacing the antenna. And if need be they can be bent back to factory settings in the future. I also cut a small hole in the middle seat belt clip to disengage easily when needed.
