    Random thought...

It’s, imo, one of the greatest multitaskers ever. When I use to change my own oil and my own brake jobs, it was perfect for sliding around on the concrete. I use it when painting to catch overspray or drips. I have a technique of folding a large piece in 3 or 4 and inserting in lawn bags to keep them open and standing. I’m always stockpiling decent pieces for future projects.
    My family thinks I’m crazy...

it is very versatile. i've used it for some of those tasks you mention. I've also torn the flaps off a box and wrapped christmas lights around them when no other makeshift spool was handy. It's also great for making quick templates for measuring and cutting other material, and as a drafting compass.

Seems like you can almost use/make anything from cardboard

My dad keeps a few sheets around his house and at the lake lot, just in case. I'm still working on building up my supply.

I have more coasters than I know what to do with. If I get a nice one at a bar or restaurant, I take it with me because I was told they're only allowed to be used once.

Don’t see it mentioned yet, but it’s also a great insulator. We take it camping to put under the tent; it keeps the cold from coming up thru the floor, and it’s great on your knees.
I’ll even take it backpacking, but get lots of strange looks because the way I pack it.

I always put a large piece of cardboard on the ground before I slide under either of my trucks to inspect or work on them. It does insulate from heat & cold, but it losses it's R value as it gets flattened with repeated use.

Old cars and trucks used a good bit of cardboard / fiberboard inside, not so much today.

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
Then to further re-purpose after I use the cardboard to work under a few various vehicle oil changes where they eventually get stained enough to move onto their next purpose: cut into strips for BBQ chimney fire starter, haha.

    Now who's the craziest?

wait, you use cardboard to catch vehicle fluid drips. That's all well and good, but then you use that same cardboard to start charcoal? Fluids and all?

Why not? After my cardboard gets good and soaked in oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, and dusted with dirt/grime, I use it to wrap brisket. Keeps it moist while helping push through the stall, and the flavor it imparts is to die for!

I used to do this, but I have a piece of carpet I use now. You can't slide on it, but it is a better insulator.

I use carpet for my knees when changing my tires but cardboard is good for laying on. Plus, the pieces of carpet I have aren't that big.

This is a cardboard mock up of a gauge cluster I wanted for my Chevrolet SS Sedan.

Always keep some sheets from all of the damn mod shipments and Amazon packages. Mostly used during fluid changes. I also will cut some down to place under mower and jet ski batteries while tending them over the winter. So many uses around the house...20201218_130219.jpg

I keep a supply next to my washing machine. I do a lot of the same stuff mentioned here and will start doing others.

I also use them under front tires when doing eyeball alignment jobs, you know before I take it to a shop.

I have used it in a tool chest as sound dampening when I didn't wanna look for a rubber mat.
