Yes but it's not turn off permanently. If you want to use it you have to select ON. It was meant for those that changed their grills or lifted the truck so that if there was an accident Toyota couldn't be held liable.

 

After replacing the AJT bracket with the Jomax, I haven't had a single issue. I was having errors every single drive, even if it was a short 5 minute hop. Now it's been two days, about 50 miles, and no issues. I'm not sure if it's the front cover that's about a quarter of the thickness of the AJT, or the fact that the Jomax puts it in a slightly different location, but it's so nice not having error codes for once!

 

Nice - I’m not familiar with the AJT bracket but it appears that something causes the radar sensor to not work properly. The Jomax bracket is most expensive but it seems to work better.

 

Opposite here, I had never heard of the Jomax until recently.

 

Update. I took it to the dealer, of course they said it's normal, they all do that. They said they could not change the setting to default off on the PCS, I had to change it every time I started it. I may try another dealer. Does anyone know how to do this on techstream? Or what I could tell my dealer? I just hate to have to manually turn off this stuff every time.

 

I have a Techstream connector on the way and I'm hoping to do this. If I figure it out, I'll let ya know.

 

How does the Jomax bracket position the sensor differently? Do you recommend this piece when going from a Platinum grille to a TRD Pro grille? I was under the impression that the TRD Pro grille comes with the necessary bracketry. Was also wondering if, since the sensor is lower on the TRD Pro grille, it should only be used on trucks with a bit of a lift. Currently, my Platinum is still stock height.

 

Compared to the AJT, it appeared to be a little bit down, and it isn't centered with the pillar it mounts on. Although that was just eyeballing them off the truck. I have a feeling it was more about the thickness of the front plate. I'd highly recommend the Jomax for anyone modifying the truck in any way. I've been having TSS issues since day one of having the truck, and haven't had a single issue with it since putting on the Jomax.

None of the TRD pro grilles come with bracketry. The 2014-17 pro grilles don't come with anywhere to mount the sensor. The 2019+ ones have a spot for it, but you need to buy the cover: https://www.tundras.com/threads/ultimate-oem-toyota-parts-thread.10707/

 

Roger that. Looking at the new style TRD Pro grille only. I take it the Jomax/AJT brackets are only for the older style grilles?

 

Did you mean older style grilles? Yes, they are for grilles without TSS sensor mounting locations. However I would recommend the Jomax to anyone having issues after lifting their truck, no matter what grille they're running.

 

Will I have issues if I switch from a 2020 Platinum grille to a 2020 TRD Pro grille? Truck is a stock height Platinum.

 

Most likely not, but you may want to ask someone who has done that particular swap

 

My AJT bracket was working about 50%. I had my machinist buddy flycut the front sensor cover, reducing thickness in half. Now it works 100%

Its about 95% working, has some intermittant outages, but corrects itself promptly

 

I've heard disconnecting the battery overnight has helped some people with intermittent issues, have you done that yet?

 

Quick update: Two weeks and 500 miles later, not a single TSS issue after replacing the AJT with the Jomax. This is the longest I've gone without an issue since buying the truck!

 

Don't you have the old style TRD PRO grill though?

 

This is simply not true! There are videos on youtube by TOYOTA dealers showing how they recalibrate TSS on lifted trucks.

That's really good info. My errors just came back an hour ago after 3 weeks and 600 miles. Once I finish putting armor and camper shell on, I'll be bringing it in for a re-cal. Hope they don't charge out the ass for it.

 

They will......they quoted me $700 to do it...…..I eventually pulled the trump card (my buddy is a GSM at a dealership) and his dealership did it for $195. Still a buttload, but much less than $700. I was fine paying since it was my issue by replacing the grill.

 

I had a feeling it would be around there. Fuck, maybe I'll just disable TSS with the t3chstream I just got.

 

That was one of the dumbest videos I've seen. Absolutely no mention on how they perform the alignment. Toyota does not have a procedure for aligning a lifted truck. The target that the "Mr. Butters" held up is one for aligning the camera and has nothing to do with the radar. I've mentioned it before that in the instructions to realign the sensors targets are set out at an exact height for a stock truck height. When you lift the truck the target heights are no longer relevant. If they are compensating for the lifted truck by raising the sensors the same amount you may be able to get the alignment done but this would be going against Toyota's instructions and would be a huge liability for the dealer if a customer sued after an accident.

Not trying to start a debate here, but if you're retired, how do you know they haven't added a new revision to the manual, with procedures for lifted trucks? Do you still have access to current manuals?

Fuck, I wish auto manufacturers weren't so greedy in hoarding maintenance info. I'm an aircraft mechanic and see the same shit. Some subscriptions run in the multiple thousands of dollars per year to access. Meanwhile, Robinson helicopter puts all their literature online for everyone to see. Wish more people would follow in their path.

 

Surely someone has a Full Service Manual for our trucks. I know when I had a Dodge Ram (years ago), they were available for download if you knew someone who had one.
