11.5 volts should spin the starter. It's sounding more and more like the starter's bad. Did you have it checked when you bought it? I've bought a couple that were dead out of the box and always have the store test it before I leave.

Did a battery swap with the same results as before. I’m really worried it’s the wire or connecting clip into the starter. With the heat build up and vibration that occurs on top of the block maybe it’s bout fried? Idk they (connection clip) are not the most robust looking.
I looked at the battery Leads. Do these look acceptable?64D3AED3-C434-47C9-9A9D-38C7BD7186AD.jpg E3BE4AE6-5CDD-426E-BE7D-841590D7F03B.jpgF83D5081-4F6A-45DC-A3E0-DDDA274E38D4.jpg

Time to replace wiring from the battery to the starter. and check the grounds from the battery as well.....The power is there, but the starter isn't getting any.

Some others have had this wire harness problem leading into the Starter. Problem is there is no way to replace outside of butt/cut splicing.

    Couple of questions:

    1) Did your harness get wet during the 3 days install?

    2) Which Starter did you use: OEM Reman’d or aftermarket?

    3) 2.0kW or the 1.4kW?

I believed I alluded everything to him to do (and to avoid) over in his other thread if IIRC. Hard to remember but I think he said he was dodging Thunderstorms for 3 days doing the work, also.

@Professional Hand Model it never got wet. Was covered with the truck hood and a pop up tent. It never got a drop of water. I used a reman oem starter from the stealership. (Like you suggested) $200. Didn’t feel like ordering and waiting for shipment to save $50. I also got the 2.0kw cold weather starter.

Thank you. Well sounds like you have the correct path on parts etc.

Cables are suspect per @Festerw and @bmf4069. I am just looking at those cable connection pictures now. Didn’t see them earlier. They don’t look proper. Hoping this area is the easy fix for you.

Is that mid-cable connector normal, or is it a splice someone put in? I looked online and none of the images show that type of connector.

Definitely a repair end, turns out it's a compression terminal but was installed incorrectly since the cable insulation is at the end of the nut.

They have 2 positive? And just paint one black or order the negative and try stripping the wire back on your current terminal for the time being.

After a few long arduous days I’m happy to report that it seems to be up and running! As y’all saw and I think @Festerw mentioned and I was thinking the same about that end on the cable being installed incorrectly. They didn’t even trim the rubber back. I honestly thought it was a factory end but I was very wrong. I probably would’ve never taken that terminal apart if you guys hadn’t convinced me it was the problem. Anyway, I installed the duralast gold terminal and it fired right up. Thanks for all the the incredible info You guys are awesome! Thanks again!

    Working on it
11.5 volts will turn it over , it will possibly crank , but very very slowly if at all. And how anyone can say use 2 positive cables is beyond me and totally backyard,Positive is alot larger and good chance it won't clamp down properly for good contact on terminal. Terminals are different for a reason ,so they shouldn't be swapped, Don't mickey mouse it up , get good ,correct cables so you don't have to keep replacing parts. Slow down with all the info and take your time and it will come together. As far as that connector your showing , the female side looks fried ,and the more you cranked it the spark had to jump farther causing it to burn even more.

These newer/tighter connections should make all of your electrical components last longer and work more efficiently. Hows that new cold spec starter performing versus your old one when it was still working?

Was having a similar problem the last week or so. Turn the key, get a click, no cranking. Would eventually get it crank after a few attempts. I replaced the starter relay, no difference.

Then by chance, I noticed that if I turn the headlights off and the ac/fan off, it would start first crank each time. Still didn't understand what was happening so I went and picked up an oem starter and manifold gaskets.

When I opened the hood I started looking closer at the battery and realized the ground connections at the battery terminal were loose and dirty. The ground from the terminal to the fender was actually detached! I cleaned the connections up and securely reattached, problem solved!

    Check those connections!

(Now, what to do with the new starter..)

This may sound a lil silly @Professional Hand Model but I feel like when turn the key and starter engages It’s almost like it slightly torques the truck...it definitely feels way stronger!
