1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion

Been thinking on my dash lights, mainly the CEL, and others that are the same size.

I think I will just replace the incandescents with incandescents with the exception of the one back light because I don't know of a good way to test all the lights that "should" come on without making multiple trips to the truck.

Lots of pins in the back of the dash, and one wrong slip with a 12v wire could fry something. That would be my luck.

Am I making any sense?

Edit: I know I can turn the key to the "on" position, and most lights should come on.

 

We just lost power right now!! only monsoons, nothing crazy. Keeping the fridge closed for now

Haha right now nothing, my buddy is like look at the Rincons, I’m like oh please, we ain’t getting any of that. But I don’t think monsoon took out my power.
We’ve gotten a decent amount in mid town, I filled my rain barrels once. But yeah it’s been pretty weak this year, but that might be a good thing for all the burn area on the mountain

we have had a disastrously dry summer up here in "America's swimming pool"
We've got a couple torrential downpours for about 30 min but we need steady rain
been coming in the winter and early spring

 

Needs reconnecting. Thats a very important ground. Suggest a new clamp crimped on the broken end and reattach behind the bolt.

 

It would be a really strange adjustment living in a place with no rain. Part of me would like to try it though. We've had 44.5" already this year. I do love having 4 distinct seasons though.

It’s different, but where I’m at, you can change that in a matter of an hour, or even 2 hours to get even more change. I’m really lucky to live where I live, and I try to embrace it. There is still a lot of the state I need to explore. I highly recommend it on your west coast journey.........see what I did there?

I’m still dry......outside, inside; I’m sweatin like a hog!!!! Haha it’s only 80 but no air flow, it’s way nicer outside!!!

 

Hes had the car for awhile now, Drove it up to Washington from ca with no problems. Is it normal for nothing to happened if its been/has been disconnected?

 

5minutes after I leave my house, my neighbor texts me, it’s back on!

 

The trucks have multiple ground points so one disconnected usually won't cause a noticeable issue.

 

No build page. It'd be twice as long as others since I mangle, then have to do the job again.
No need to drain coolant as long as you pull the TB off the intake and let it hang. You will have to d/c the fuel line which needs a 22mm end wrench. I didn't clean my intake ports, but i imagine a moist, lint free rag with some b12 or similar on it should be ok. Carbon may fall into the chamber and it may idle funny. Just be sure and get the washers for the fuel rail thingy in order on reassembly or it wont start!

Try an agreed value policy. You pick the value, they charge you accordingly. Nobody cares what book is. Intended for collector cars & built/modified vehicles. In CT we have Hagerty (SP?), American Modern, etc. who write these policies. Try searching "agreed value auto insurance" for your state.

I’d repair it ASAP. Its there for a good reason. Your components will operate more efficiently. I’d look at the other ground on the firewall and make sure its in good shape, as well.

 

Watched the A1 Auto Timing Belt 3 part series last night. Pretty comprehensive. Looks straight forward. I’ll give myself about 10 hours total (maybe and extra hour for deep feather dusting) to complete it. Stealer wants $2100 labor only!

Been winnowing some of the unnecessary parts off my original ordering. Got her down to about $1500 for the TB Portion and now the Black Friday discount waiting game begins.

Check your manual for all the lights that are available on your dash. Some never come on and others light up briefly like ‘low fuel’ or ‘low wiper fluid’.

I think your plan sounds good and will be eliminating any funny stuff from future occurrence.

Called another Stealer. Won’t bore you with details, but they want $450 labor only for replacing the Alternator ‘while in there’ for the TB Job. Two bolts and a nut and plug job?

Guess its the gravy part on top of the larger chunk they charge for the TB?


Called a local small Japanese Specialist Shop. Will report back on their style.

 

Yeah. That era was pretty cool for the auto repair/review shows. He put the Tundra to the test pretty well in that video. I had his same mom jeans back in that era.
