Pull the little rubber off. Mine turned orange red and shot out more light.

I’m going to mess with that drivers door switch light tonight. Maybe. Brew up some solder in a copper cup and dip my LED prongs down in there and then glue it over to the circuit board. Danger?

How I did mine was thus.

Remove the three small Phillips head screws from white board on the back, and then pry up gently on the WB. There are pins in the white board that go straight up into connectors on the circuit board.
    20200810_173850.jpg
    20200810_174234.jpg
After the back of the board was exposed I carefully heated up the solder on the old green led, and then pulled each pin up/out of the board individually.

My new leds had long pins, and I bent them into approximately the same width as holes in the board. Stuck them through as far as I could get them to go, and again carefully soldered the new light in.

Once it was attached I cut the extra off the back side of the board, and had to file just a little bit of solder from my work down so the WB would fit.

Mine were polarity sensitive. This is how I put it in, and it worked.
    20200810_174731.jpg

I had to solder it in twice because I put it in "backwards" the first time. Was nerve wracking for me, but I got it done.

I have no pictures of the back of the board. As long as you're careful you should be fine. I have an extra switch if you mess yours up.

Went out and did a quick removal of things based on your prior post way back. I even took the mirror switch assy apart and regreased the slider in there. No pics as I was in tight sphincter mode due to the sensitive components.

Cleaned up the slider copper for the pass side window control. It had some corrosion (maybe why its been sticky?). Electric greased it. Blew out the dust off the assys with some canned air I found at a garage sale. Went out and plugged things up to make sure I didn’t mangle anything. Everything still works! Bulb still works, but dim.

Plan is cut the existing LED and leave the prongs as long as possible. Sister the new bulb T-5 Prongs right up to the old ones using the ‘dip and go’ method.

Tomorrow is solder day. A good plumber always told me to never sweat after sundown.

You know, solder wick is a thing, and it works really, really damn well. I cannot recommend enough for you to buy some of it and also buy a desoldering pump. Between these two, you'll not have any more sweaty moments.

Furthermore, and I hope I'm not telling you something you already know, but look up "pre-tinning" on YouTube, and read this comic. I know, it's a comic. But it covers some of the most critical points (other than pre-tinning, which is absolutely critical to learn for both wires and working w/PCBs) which will help you if nobody ever taught you how to properly solder.

That sucks. I'm so grateful my truck has a roof over its head. My old one wouldn't fit in the garage and I had no choice but to park it under an old oak tree on the street. Between the acorns falling from 40-50ft up and the garbage the oak scale infection would piss out I was washing it every two weeks and would see one or two new dents every week. :(

I wasn't aware of the solder wick, but my weller solder desoldering pump came in a few days ago. Seems to be quality.
I've never heard it called "pre-tinning" and always heard it called "tinned." Sounds like the same thing.

Gave that comic a quick browse before break was over. Looks like good info on there. I'll need to read more in-depth later on.

    Thank you for the education!

It's F'ing awesome. Lay it over anything you want to remove solder from, then lay the iron on top of it so the wick is sandwiched in between and POOF 90% or more of the solder is sucked up. Video example.

Don't get me wrong the plunger is great and everything but not always the most elegant solution.

Thank you for explaining that, I have one, haha but I don’t think I was using it properly.
We have this bad ass electronics store; that blows radio shack(when they were good) out of the water. The “bigger city” Phoenix, I have searched and not found a place like this. It’s a mix of Mauser/digikey/random airplane surplus!
If you know what your looking for it’s great and they usually have oddball stuff for decent prices. Most of the clerks and pretty knowledgeable as well. Huge isle of molex plugs, 2-15 pin, weatherpack connectors, a 60’ wall of switches!!!!!! It’s sooo sick.

Man, going back to work after 5 days off is rough. I've got a page and a half of threads to read through as well. I see the turd gens have invaded a few threads, so I'm back on watch now. Rest easy knowing the protector of the realms is back from drunken lake time, and is looking over 1st gen land, shooing away the monstrosities known as 2nd/3rd gens.

yup, it’s a bummer. We’ll see if the insurance totals it out or not. Probably not going to fix it since the cab is so rotted out. I’ve put enough money into this thing. I’d buy it back from insurance if it’s totaled though.

That sucks. Be prepared to dispute value with your insurance, any recently completed repairs and upgrades as well as local ads for trucks of similar year, make, model and condition. You have to squeeze them for every cent. Do you think you will buy another 1st gen? If you find something here in SE Florida, I live 3 minutes from ft Lauderdale airport and there is a spare room by the pool.

I know some people on here have em.

Are there any years/motors I should avoid?

I don’t know what gen, but my mom had a 2010 I think. And it’s been a great car for her. I think it has the 2.7 4cyl. I’ve driven it on road trips and it’s great, it’s not a go gart like a little civic is, but a larger koopa troopa kart, it zips around pretty good and has a decent amount of room! I think my mom is over 150k with no real issues other than regular Maintenance.

Empty Lord might know if they are known to have any issues. Our 2012 has been a very good vehicle. The rear main seal leaked at one point but stopped over a year ago now. If you get a 3rd gen(2007-2013) they offered those in the V6 which is supposedly really impressive in such a small vehicle. Honestly though, the 4cyl has been fine for our needs. We've gotten as high as 29mpg on road trips and usually average 24 city. Ours has the transmission dip stick which I like, but it's only a 4 speed auto. I think they have a sealed transmission starting with the 4th gen.

In 125K miles I've done 1 brake job, and 1 radiator hose. Other than that all I've done is change the oil and transmission fluid.

    Not looking to sell.

2.4l burns oil. The 2.5s can burn oil. The V6 was by far the most reliable rav4.

I LOVE the V6 in the 2007-2012ish model years. I had one as a rental car for a week. Talk about a "sleeper." While Fast is a relative term, when you jump in a small SUV you have certain expectations. This V6 exceeded mine, Very quick, fun to drive. Rated for something like 270 HP...

    Per @Festerw's, and @bmf4069's recco.

Coming together! Diodes on order, and other goodies should be here eventually.

Other goodies include the supa sweet-ness Toy OEM "filther" from the local wacko-mart.

Looking back at my broad brand filter post...

Is the filter "element" a paper filter for the turd-gens? Or the rexus?
