BMC done but still rubs :( UCA recommendation?

Hey all,

Did a bmc not to long ago and put on some 35x12.50 Toyo RTs today and unfortunately it still rubs a little at the bend of the plates. I probably didn’t cut far back enough. Any of you experience this and what did you guys do to fix it? I was thinking of cutting it back out or possibly get an alignment to see if they can move the wheels up forward??? I’m not sure if they can as I only have stock upper control arms. Thanks!

Yes, increasing caster will help fit 35’s, but yeah, I don’t know that you’ll get the numbers you need with stock UCA’s. It’s kind of a “fact” that you’ll need to replace the OEM UCA’s to get the right geometry.

 

try alignment first and you will probably need aftermarket UCAs

What wheels, offset?

Rock warriors fit better without wheel spacers (this is basically what I'm trying to get at, do you have wheel spacers or anything?)

Yeah I hear you on that. I was hoping I didn't need to but its probably the right way to go.

 

These are 18x9 with a 0 offset and no spacers at all, toytec spacers 3/1.

Maybe I misread that most ppl ran aftermarket UCAs with this type of lift or I'm just trying to avoid it, lol.

 

Got you...I was hoping I can get away with just the BMC but looks like i cant.

 

You could get away with that lift probably, but not stuffing 35’s under there with that lift.

 

From everything I researched and read, I thought doing a BMC with a 3/1 would clear 35s or atleast it be a tight fit. I get everyone's build and body mounts all different but where did I go wrong?? haha. I can turn my steering wheel with ease but from time to time you can hear it rub. I don't do any hardcore off roading so maybe ill be safe for now. Thanks for the input.

 

From everything I’ve read and heard, you can make this work with + caster... but probably need to swap UCA’s to get the caster. I think it’s doable though!

 

You have any recommendations on UCA's? Not looking to break the bank but something decent and reasonable.

 

Sadly no. I kept my 3rd gen stock, and my 1st gen is long-travel. Everything I know is expensive. Total Chaos and Camburg cost a lot but are highly recommended. Up to you— maybe edit the title of this thread to ask for UCA recommendations for the lift kit you have. This problem your having is common on here; I feel certain you’ll get good recommendations from guys who’ve had the same and fixed it with UCA’s.

 

You went wrong with OE arms. Can't get enough caster while keeping toe and camber happy.

Few sub 600 options, majority of the uniball start around 750 IIRC.

I really wished @TOTAL CHAOS made arms with recessed uniball hardware....the amount of caster built into my Camburg arms doesn't work well for me anymore.

There are a number of factors at work here - lift, tire size, and offset. In this case it looks like the 0 offset that is causing you to still rub. A few options are to cut more (but your chop looks good and like there is not a lot left to cut), changing caster, try wheels with an offset between +18 and +25. Aftermarket UCAs could help but I would try a good alignment shop first. Look for one that has experience with lifted trucks. Proper alignment for a lifted truck will be different that that for a stock Tundra. (For reference, I run 35's on a 3.25" lift with no BMC and do not rub but I am running wheels with a +25 offset and aftermarket UCAs).

I agree with you, the 0 offset is killing me but I love the wheels , lol. Ill definitely look into some of the 4x4 shops around my area that are well known for lifted trucks. I know toytec is close by so maybe ill give them a ring and see if i can get in. What aftermarket UCA's are you running on your truck?

Wheels really help to personalize your truck and make it “yours”.

I am running Total Chaos UCAs. They are great for what I do and for here in CA.

 

Nice! It seems like those are pretty popular, going to have to look into those. I do very little off roading to almost none besides driving down some dirt roads to a few hunting spots during winter and fall.

 

SPC arms might be a good option for you too. Less $ than TC and better protection to stand up to the Colorado weather.

 

Or just chop off the body mount, what's the worst that can happen as long as its not a jeep.....

 

I know Toytec was busy for installs when I called last week. Where in Colorado are you? I’m in Aurora! Does it only rub in reverse?

Wazzup!!!! I’ll give them a call and see what’s going on. Hopefully they can get me fixed up without having to do aftermarket UCAs unless it’s a must. I’m up north in Frederick/Longmont area. It rubs both in drive and reverse.
