Mastercrafts are cool boats. Nice setup. I've heard good things about towing with the 5100's, like being able to control the load on the rear end better than stock suspension. When I upgrade I'll get 5100's all around and set the fronts on the middle setting. My boat isn't as heavy as your Mastercraft, but there is way more height and windage.

We pulled the same trailer 1200 miles 2 years ago when I had a 2011 Taco. Pulled good and I think the lower profile helped with wind resistance as my mpg was not as bad as I calculated. Then again, math is hard.

Beautiful winnebago ! Love that gel skin ! .
Bet you could really use a trans cooler on that 2020 hauling that big of a trailer ... May I direct you to this thread https://www.tundras.com/threads/2019-transmission-cooler.60550/

Bought an ultra gauge to check trans temps but haven’t gotten it setup correctly yet.. anyone else use UltraGauge that’s has any tricks for trans temps to show

looked at the trans cooler awhile back. If I get this UltraGauge to work and I see my temps rising high I will def be looking into them.

Definitely worth getting that ultra gauge hooked up , before I added a cooler on my 2019 I'd see 245 degree trans temps towing my trailer (smaller than yours ) and I'm in Canada where ambient temps aren't that crazy hot

Think it is page 3. I have a 2019 and if I remember correctly I had to enter the pre 2016 Tundra codes to get my ultraguage Mx to read trans temps.

How is it everyone’s transmissions are needing cooler? I live in Phoenix, AZ and I tow occasionally I’ve never had issues with vehicle temps getting out of control.

Awesome. Got it working. Now for the 2 different temps. Do you have to create 2 different M gauges to view in the pan vs after torque converter?

edit: got it figured out. Just now seen they are different in the rpos area. Thanks

I'm not talking about engine temperature . Seeing how the tundras don't come with trans temp gauge , have you monitored trans temps with a Bluetooth app ?

Rented a trailer, dry weight about 5500lbs, so probably 6500lbs total when we loaded it down. Didn't drive far, but definitely up a few large hills with no issues. Truck has stock 1794 (TRD?) suspension.

Im pretty sure you have same suspension as me. You have the black shocks correct? If so those are the softest shocks. Put on there for comfort. If it was TRD Offroad shocks we would be blue and yellow, and sport I believe is red shocks.

how far did you tow and what mpg you get? Also how much was rental?

I have the blue TRD shocks. Went about 200mi and got 8 mpg (at 75mph). Climbed about 1500' though, so it was a decent hill on the way out.

Going to rent a 28' trailer next time (about 1000lbs more) and see how it does. This was 24'.

Oof. 28 feet and 7500 lbs is a lot of travel trailer for a half ton. Different story on a flat trailer. You're braver than I am. I'll be shooting for the 20 footer or less range.

Ya, not bad advice...just don't want to have to lose the Tundra! Three kids under 4 in a 24' was tough though.

Nice! Ya that’s what I’m gonna do. I have a few different people in my area that rent their TT on outdoorsy.com. I’m gonna rent them over the course of a year and see what fits my families needs best before I spend the money to buy.

My parents in law got an 18 footer for the two of them and my father in law said it's the biggest trailer he'd want to tow. My parents got a 24 footer for our family of 5 and it worked well for us until we were old enough to sleep in the tent. We do leave it parked at our lake lot year round but my dad has lots of experience towing and wouldn't balk at a larger trailer, provided he had a vehicle to tow it with.

I'd like something around 24 feet and 4500 lbs dry but my wife has a lot of strict specifications that she's unwilling to compromise on, including: has to have a slide, has to have a couch, can't have a Murphy bed, can't feel small or cramped...
Also, she's not even willing to learn to drive the truck, let alone tow a trailer. So we'll see if that results in me selling the Tundra and getting a one ton.

You just gotta get her to compromise a bit. If she wants a slide, then it needs to be 5 feet shorter. Slides add tons of weight and need extra maintenance. Also extra intrusion point for water and vermin.

Have you looked into the R-pod line up? Everything they make would be fine on 99% of half tons, and the are solid quality from what I have researched. They are a bit more expensive than some other trailers the same size, but I am ok with that if the quality is there.

Hey man my wife is same way!! I found what she is willing to compromise on. It’s the Grand Design Imagine 22RBE. They have different models to accommodate larger families. They are nice I have floor plan below.

I also looked at RPOD only thing I don’t like is single axle jostles around a lot and stuff inside rattles around and falls. I used my in-laws geopro and it was great but the speakers inside rattled and one fell and was hanging by wires. I just didn’t like that bed is hard to make and if you over indulge in alcohol and go to bed whomever sleeps furthest forward in bed is constantly crawling over other person to go to bathroom. Lol

I'll make sure Rpod is on my list to check out but, like Eric says, tandem axle seems more stable and I was told would also have a lower tongue weight.

+1 on vermin coming in through the slide, which is especially a concern since I'd like to leave it at the lake over winter.
Grand Design is also on my list to check out though we're looking for one with bunks.

Doesn't have to be that short. Mine is 23', has 2 slides and is about 4900 dry.

I know the trucks will haul more than that, and you could even push up larger. Because TT have that high tippy profile that catches wind I always shoot for smaller, but as long as you are within the payload and towing limits then it just boils down to preference. I like to enjoy my drive, and with all my CDL driving I have learned what I do and don't like. Had a TT with a slide, and it wasn't worth the work to me. I also don't plan to spend tons of time in the camper. I wanna be outside enjoying wherever I've gone. As long as the kitchen is sufficient and I have a good place to sleep then I am a happy camper. Punny.

Agreed about not pushing it. I like to keep my max at no more than around 70% of rated capacity. If I cram mine to the max , water, etc. It's at around 7200. Close to 70-75% and about as heavy as I would go without bumping up to a 3/4 ton. I cringe when I see guys posting that they tow 11,000 and the Tundra "Pulls it great"
