I don’t have a lot of aftermarket things on my truck. I ordered an item and specifically called out the date i needed it by on the order. no one ever contacted me to say they couldn’t do that, it was over a month from the time I ordered.
well the date has come and gone, no item. I emailed them, two days later no response. I’ve worked with many cottage vendors in the outdoors world, their strength is usually communication. I realize it’s a pandemic but damnit, shoot me an email.
Am i wrong here? Do you expect a date to be followed if you include it on the order?

I have experienced quite a few long shipping times from Amazon/EBay/DMV lately. It’s super annoying but understandable with all the BS going on in the world at the moment.
If they didn’t give you an estimated date or acknowledge your requested date I really don’t know how “mad” you can be. Maybe just “annoyed”?
Maybe they are very busy and will reach out to you shortly.
My advice would be to just have some more patience and try not to stress about the small stuff.
Hope your stuff shows up soon brother!

I have not been able to get many things that I am amazed are in such low supply or high demand and I am also sure the supply chain for everything is just screwed right now and these are uncharted waters sadly for all of us really.

My customers are not happy about this but it is what it is don't you think?

Since we have no clue at all what you are actually asking about it is pretty tough to try or even want to help talk you down?

I am more likely to give Vendors the benefit of the doubt these days unless I know otherwise.

im not trying to put anyone on blast that’s why I’m not calling them out. My RTT is enroute and the rack I ordered still hasn’t shipped. I used their contact form last week and still haven’t heard back. It’s a larger vendor that a lot of people use. I’ve never ordered a rack that’s why I’m confused. i did specify my “need by” date and no one told me that they couldn’t meet that deadline. I would understand if they had reached out and said that they could not do it.

I had my TracRac system within a week (then promptly returned it..). That was also two months ago though. Every company is different. Although personally if I hadnt got tracking by the first week id have started in on them for it.

    Squeaky wheel. Keep harassing them.

Everyone is taxed right now, especially small business...I have ordered a few things that sounded like the same scenario, gave the vendor a call and each time they were under reduced staff or experiencing shipping delays. The call seemed to get them moving each time. I would call them and see whats up.

The grey area here is HOW did you specify. If it was just a note in an online form, then it was likely missed, and then it would be on you to follow up and get confirmation that they could meet your deadline. If you received a non-automated confirmation notice from them then it may be a bit different, but if you sent in a form and took a lack of response as acceptance of your terms then that is on you for assuming they fully read and understood it.

As others have recommended, call them. You need to speak to someone to get everything clarified.

See that is what im wondering and if thats how this is normally done I dont know how anyone stays in business. I ran a business before and there was never ambiguity in what my customers needed to communicate with me. Yes I assumed that when I talked to the service agent then turned around and made an order with the need by on it, they accepted my order that yes, they were ok with it. My bad for hoping for customer service I guess. Im on calls till noon my time, ill call them after.

If you mentioned the need when you spoke to the rep and they were good with it and just told you to include it in the order, then I would be upset. I'd still handle it as cooly as possible over the phone, but if I got any kind of flak or wasn't pleased with the response I'd cancel the order and dispute any charges. Especially if you have the order info in writing. That said, if the only place your deadline was communicated was in a generic order form, then I'd just chalk it up to live and learn.

Many people have asked, and you seem to keep avoiding answering the question directly. Did you verbally communicate with a representative when you needed the item by, and did they say that was okay? Was there a specific section of the order form that had you input a "need by date"; or did you just drop that in a comment section and assume it was okay? If you did the latter, and are expecting them to honor it - you're being a bit unreasonable. You can't just put a request in a random comment section, and expect that to be honored without speaking with someone directly and making sure it's okay. It's entirely possible that they haven't even gotten around to fulfilling your order yet, and therefore haven't even seen your comment. You need to call, and speak with someone, and I'd really approach it as calmly as possible. As others have said, if you don't like what they have to say - cancel your order.

I spoke with them before putting in my order.

Basically i guess they are swamped and trying. I’m not calling them out because there’s no reason to damage a reputation due to me possibly doing it wrong.

i called them and after pushing, many apologies on their side, my rack is supposed to be shipped out tomorrow.

Well after all is said and done, pandemic included I wouldn't recommend buying from RCI. They didn't ship when they said they would, no communication. They didn't ship all the parts for me to install this, I called and left a message like they asked. Well 4 freaking days later, no communication. After I finally got through after an afternoon of calling and they wanted to ship me parts slow-mo. I asked for overnight and it was a big deal to do it. Being flippant with me too didn't leave me with the warm fuzzy of customer service.

No communication is bullshit, I don't care what's going on. I understand if you can't do something, just say so.

Your expectation seems reasonable however things happen but the lack of communication can suck. Maybe do a 1 star review on Google if they're listed and see if they contact you then, you can always post a follow-up.

I think these days we need to not expect getting what we want when we want it, however I think we need good communication from vendors on replies to questions and lead times.

So, I think OP is wrong assuming product lead times just because you put an order in with a comment on timing, you probably should have confirmed that prior to purchase. I also blame the vendor for not responding to emails (happens to me too and it's frustrating).

I vote: no, don’t go off on ‘em. In the time I’ve had my trucks, I’ve experienced that horrible communication by fabricators is the “norm”. I’ve pretty much decided that talented fabrication skills are more often than not inversely correlated to to effective communication skills... and financial accounting skills, for that matter.

RCI has been around a long time, which is pretty good indication they’ve built a good team to support the business aspects of running a Fab shop. But add shortages in steel and maybe aluminum or fasteners, plus pandemic-related shipping delays along all points of the supply chain, we should all expect delays. And, because RCI sells a bunch of a comparatively few products, I understand they likely manufacture in batches; it’s pretty likely they don’t even read request lines on orders until it comes time to match a group of orders with product ready to ship.

So as much as I don’t enjoy doing it, if I have a deadline I need to get met, I call and ask. I’ve had pretty good luck with this, some very impressive customer service on a couple of occasions from a couple different vendors. And a lot more misses. So welcome to truck mod vendors; it’s a good idea to pad your timeline when you’re planning. I’ve had to skip ordering too, if my deadline wasn’t flexible.

Anyway, RCI isn’t perfect. They skipped sending fasteners with skid plates a couple years ago on a forum group-buy. We all groused and those that called got fasteners sent. But I think we all still order from and recommend products by RCI. Them being really busy is a good thing. Calling is the way....

Yeah, I’ve had to adjust my thinking. This is an industry wide thing in my experience. The shops with consistently good communication are the exceptions.

I clicked on it cuz my sliders just shipped today from the group buy. They had told me they were ready to ship 3 weeks ago. I called and they had been sent to another person, “due to new workers in the warehouse”. They communicated well and apologized profusely for the mix up and sent them today like they said they would, and called to let me know. I’m not sore about it. It took a little longer than original lead times, and longer than when others got theirs but that’s fine with me. I wasn’t on a tight deadline, but glad they finally shipped.
I will say though, I ran my own business as well for almost 30 years and nothing like that ever happened, I made sure of it.
I would buy from them again, and expect to wait, like I did for the sliders and the skid plate before that.
