I've ordered 2 different "short" antennas. Both of them did not have long enough thread to screw down into the antenna base through the rubber housing. Both claimed they were compatible with 2017 Tundras. The 2nd one was even from Ronin Factory (bullet antenna). The threaded bolt is not long enough. Anyone else have this issue with ordering "short" antennas that claim to be compatible with 2017 Tundras?

I keep hearing reception is horrible with any short antenna. Anyone have experience with a short antenna that does get good reception? I live in the East Tennessee area, lots of hilly/mountainous terrain. I need something that picks up pretty good. Are the copper with rubber coating any better?

Antenna reception is not Rocket Surgery.

The more metal the better the reception.

not always the case. most FM antenna are quarter length of the wave length and they base it on the 100mhz spot on the FM dial since its about mid point in the full FM band.

which is why most old time antenna are around 31-32 in in length.

Give this one a try. Put this on my 18 CM. No issues with reception, live in Houston but have been in secluded areas with no problems.

I use the original stubby from Craven Speed. Works great and I've had one on a Wrangler, CR-V, Sienna, Tacoma and the Tundra.

I'm looking for an antenna that is right around cab height so about 24 in and can't seem to find one. They're all between six and 17 inches. I just needed a little shorter than the factory one so it clears the garage

It actually is when you get into the weeds of it all.

Anyways, per google's more simple explanation -
To calculate the effective length of the antenna , the formula λ= v/ f must be used . The Greek lowercase letter lambda ( λ) is used to denote wavelength . The wavelength is calculated by dividing the phase velocity of the wave (v) - the speed of light 300,000. km/s (299,792,458 meters per second) by the frequency expressed in MHz (f). The result is obtained in meters. For example, for a frequency of 145 MHz, the length of the antenna will be 2.06 m.

I have a small antenna but it's just for show. I don't use the radio. If I did I would never of replaced my OEM one.

I got a 13” Rydonair antenna from Amazon. It came with a few thread adapters to make it work with the stock mount. Installed in 60 seconds. Sirius xm is clear as day using it.

Sirius XM uses a different antenna that lives in your shark fin or the black bump towards the front of your roof. It receives its signal from a satellite. Like your GPS.

That makes sense, I do have that black bump on the roof. I didn’t notice any change with fm radio either, still sounds good

Yeah it sounds the same. I do most of my driving on the outskirts of a big city and still get good reception.
