rvanwert, my bad. Somehow I missed the part that your truck is 2003. 1st gen Tundra wheels have relatively low offset, so in order to achieve the look you want, you might have to go with a negative offset. 2nd gen comes with 60 mm offset wheels, so at 12 mm offset, the wheels are pushed out about 2 inches from the factory setting. From what I could find out, 285/70/17 is pretty wide tire for the 1st gen.

But it seems you don't have to change the offset very much to achieve the look you want. Here is a picture of 2006 (I think) with 285/70/17 Cooper stt on oem bbs-rd wheels. I am not sure what rubbing issues are involved. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to 1st gen. My 2010 Tundra was the first truck I've ever owned. So I am still learning.

TRD Supercharger and URD 7th Injector Kit, Goliath Wheels and Toyo Proxes ST Tires and Firestone Air Springs
    Hello All,

Just signed up and appreciate all the time and effort people have put in to their posts. Supper helpful. Thanks!!!

I haven't had a chance to read much and ...

I got a lot from the first few posts I read.

I needed some info on stock wheel and tire sizes for my 2003 Tundra SR5 (Xtra Cab?) 4 x4 with a manual trans and the V6 with added TRD Supercharger and an URD 7th injector kit and Firestone Air Springs. ( I had to modify the air spring mounting brackets quite a bit to be able to have the air bags clear the tires).

When I bought the truck it came with Goliath Matte Black with Diamond Cut Accents 18” x 9” 6 lug and Toyo Proxes P285/60R18 Tires.

At first I didn't really like the wheels much and they have really grown on me and the tires are excellent.

I was looking up original tire and wheel sizes because I was thinking of buying some stock wheels to put some more off road tires on. The Toyo's are great and I love the way they handle. Most of the driving I do is on the highway and I also like the quiet. I used to have a Ford Explorer with pretty off road tires and really got tired of the road noise on the highway and loved how they preformed when off roading. I also have become really fond of my Toyo's but they are pretty useless for off roading.... at least in my opinion for whatever that is worth.

My money situation has taken a temporary ugly turn which may last for awhile and in the big picture trying to get what I want and not spending a ton of money has brought up the thought of buying a used stock set of wheels with very off road tires for my trips to the mountains and to the snow. Hence the looking up the stock wheels and tire sizes. I can still buy my tires at pretty good deals from my ex tire supplier and stock size off road tires are lots cheaper and do a pretty good job off road or at least they did with my Explorer.

I was in the auto repair business for a long time but didn't do a lot of tires and wheels and every 4 x4 I drove with pretty aggresive off road tires where always noisy on the freeway. I had some Goodyear Wranglers on my Explorer that were a pretty good compromise and now am kinda of spoiled with my wheel and tire set up and really don't want to compromise my tires and wheels for off road and snow use.

I am always open to learning new things and anyone's suggestions.

I'm not 100 percent on if it will rub or not. The overall diameter is 31.5". The information in the original post shows that some trimming may be needed. I would assume minimal plastic cutting in the front wheel well and removal of the front mud flaps.
Or you could just get this and be good to go: http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/TU2-Component_p_367.html

It will depend entirely on the backspacing/offset of the wheel. There's no yes/no answer based purely on size and width of the wheel.

My plastic modification with out removal. Just a trim and it still fits perfect. No rubbing what so ever anymore on 305/55r20 +1 offset

What's up everyone! New to this thread, awesome information on here! Really appreciate all the time you guys put into it!
I bought my RW used about a year ago and have been taking it to the dealer for all the reg maintenance since it was free for the first year. Just went to change my break pads and realized the lug adapter, not the lock key, wasn't in the truck. Guessing previous owner kept it! Anyone know a part # or where I can get one? Dealer is a pain in the ass drive away. But that's my secondary option.

I have and ordered one, even had to buy a set of lug nuts with it to get it. Everything on the ad said tundra and Trd, but if course it was the wrong size when I got it. I'm just gonna head to the dealer! Thanks for the help!

Here's what I've settled on; Toyo AT/II 35x12.5x18. Ultra Rogue 175 Rims w/+35 offset. On a 4" lift. Ordering these as a package mounted from Rimzonline, just under $2,000.

Yea head to the dealer Keith. Might save a little online but dealer will have exact. There are 20% off parts on most dealers websites every once in a while.

Okay so I've read and reread the specs at the beginning of the post, (great post Brian). I'm getting rather frustrated with my inability to clearly understand this offset thing. I'm adding 35x12.5x18 Toyos next month. So to minimize rubbing and to create a wider stance do I want a more (+) positive offset like +30, or do I want a more (-) negative offset like -30?

Okay Okay, I think I've got this now... I don't want a +35 offset, I'd be rubbing all over the place, correct? if stock rim already has a +60mm offset then do I need to go to the (-) negative side for that size of tire to create a wider stance and to minimize rubbing?

Theres a fine line to what helps and what hurts on rubbing with larger tires. Typically you need more negative than stock to clear the frame/UCA/skid plate when turned, plus it looks better having the tires fill the fender well and stick out a tad. BUT, problems do arise though if you go too negative. This increases the scrub radius when steering and will make the tire eat body mount/fender liner/etc. so you have to be careful. Most will say around a +18 or +25 offset is just about perfect with larger tires on the Tundra.
Here's an example of a negative offset wheel (-12mm) with 35's on the Tundra:

And heres my truck with factory wheels and 1.25" spacers (+28mm equivalent) with nearly 35"x11.5" nittos

What size lift is with the (-12) offset? I'm looking to get a 3/1 leveling kit and I want 35x12.5 but not sure if they will rub to much to trim
